I think it's Bruce's to either take or share according to his wishes...if he's on the lineup...it will be his call as to how he is listed...and how he shares the bill....as big as Phish is in their niche....Bruce is a living legend and will get top billing or a piece of it as his call.....no matter if this is his "House" or not if you know what I mean.....
I mean....everyone I know KNOWS who Bruce is...I still have friends who say "who?" when I say Phish is headling Roo... I have to say..."You know...like the ice cream...Phish Food....Ben and Jerry's??" Yeah....Bruce will headline.....

The general public's familiarity with a band does not determine billing. Just because more people know of/are familiar with the songs of an artist, doesn't mean they will have higher billing.
In 2004, The Dead and Dave Matthews + Friends were billed ahead of Bob Dylan
In 2005, Widespread Panic headlined two nights, they were billed ahead of Dave Matthews Band and The Allman Brothers Band

Normally I would think Bruce-- he is among the very top of all Bonnaroo headliners. But I think that Phish's legendary status among Bonnaroo core constituency, coupled with this being a reunion tour for them, means that they will be billed first. And as BD said, if they do play 2 nights (even if one night is not a headlining spot), then it's a done deal.
Why would how many times they play have anything to do with it? I don't get that...and I don't think they will headline two nights...I guess we'll all see Tuesday...that's the nice thing....we don't have much longer to wait! LOL!
And trust me..it's NOT their hard core fan base that the PR materials are geared towards....that would TRULY be wasted monies!
Bruce Springsteen will be billed ahead of Phish. Definitely.
I will bet you the cost of a Roo ticket that you are wrong.
I'm almost willing to take that, seeing as how that would probably be the only way I could go this year. However....I don't think I could afford that if Phish WAS in fact the top billed. But I really do think that without a doubt, Bruce will be top billed.
I'll push Phish into the lead. The fact that they're playing 2 sets gives them Top billing.
oh that's a fact now? when did we get 100% proof they're playing 2 sets
No one has 100% proof they are playing two sets. But then again, no one has 100% proof they will be there at all. The fact of the matter is, all of these rumors stem from someone claiming (over a month ago) that Phish would be playing two nights and Bruce was also headlining. Seems like that person was right about Bruce, so they are probably right about Phish.

I agree. If you are debating whether Bruce or Phish is going to headline, you have to assume that they are both playing. The source that revealed these 2 would be playing, also stated Phish would play 2 nights. So I am going under that assumption.
I just think it would be easier and wouldn't ruffle any feathers if they said 2 nights of Phish gets them the top bill. Then they don't have to decide which act is "bigger" or "more derserving" of being top-billed.

I don't think anyone is debating which act is "bigger". Sure, Bruce is a more recognizable name. Sure, Bruce has more fans. But that does not directly translate into top billing.

You know, I have honestly never once considered it even an important fact as to who was mentioned first in the line up... As long as they're both there I'll be ecstatic.
But, if I must play along with this game, I don't see how Phish isn't listed ahead of Bruce. If not, it would just encourage all of those "phans" that think Phish playing Roo was a bad idea in the first place. The fact that they should be playing two very reputable time slots (headliner and late night, at least) and that Phish plays more towards the crowd than Bruce. Think about it... Is Widespread Panic really a bigger name than BB King? The 2008 Roo line up bill seems to say that it is.
