Nahh I will be in VIP. I can't be living amongst the Plebes. Thanks for the sentiment though. Only problem is that I will be so close to the main stage that Phish might disturb my nap.
People just need to quacking chill out. Seriously.
I hate Phish. I think their music is boring. I won't be seeing their show.
I hate Springsteen. I think his music is boring. I won't be seeing his show.
So, there. If anyone has a problem with that, you won't find me giving a poop. Eron, you need to get off your college radio listening, "I don't give a poop what people think" high horse and actually stop giving a poop what people think. If people give you a hard time for not liking a certain kind of music, then quack 'em. Stop pissing people off by passive aggressively ragging on the entire fanbase in return.
What everyone needs to understand is that music isn't just music for people. You all know this, but I don't think you really stop and think about. Music is a part of each person's identity. Fanbases are a sub-culture and the people of them will defend their identity if they feel threatened. Some take threats more lightly than others. My proclamation that I don't like Phish will threaten some people's identity because I am not what is comfortable or normal for them and, yes, they won't be able to understand why I am criticizing a part of their identity. They take it personally as a result, regardless of the intention. People kill each other over stuff like this. Let's stop the violence!
I think you totally miss the point of my post. I honestly don't give a damn what people think about my music or me. I know tons of people post that, but, if you knew me, you would realize that I actually don't. Hate me, love me, whatever. Honestly it doesn't change my day.
I would like to be able to post a statement about Phish without a discussion devolving into a bunch of people calling me names.
I made a post about how Bruce Springsteen has sold more albums and is better known then Phish. That isn't an opinion. It is a fact. yet I was told that I was a noob and that I didn't know anything about live music. Look I couldn't care less about what those posters think about me, but I would like to have DISCUSSIONS on the forum (which can also, not very ironically be called a DISCUSSION BOARD).
I do listen to a lot of college radio. I also listen to a lot of independent music blogs. I listen to music from any source I can. I live in a very impoverished and uneducated area of the country. There really are not people here to hang out with that have any education past High School, except others in the medical field. Trust me, even most of them just listen to country music. I am sorry if I can't hang out with a bunch of friends and swap CDs to get all my music listening. If I did I would be listening to Gretchen Wilson all the time.
I am not being passive-aggressive, but I believe that the Phans response to my post, proves my initial point. This isn't a Phish message board. I am not going there and saying they suck. Heck, I didn't even say they suck or insult them. I said that I didn't like their music and that they are reuniting to make money. Both of those are FACTS. I can't be wrong about my opinion. Obviously they are reuniting for money or they would just get together and play in someone's basement. I get paid for my job, why shouldn't they?
I have nothing against Phish. Their fans just don't seem to realize they are not gods to the majority of people on this board or anywhere outside of the Phish realm. If I make a statement that Bruce Springsteen is more popular then Phish, and you disagree, lets have a discussion on it. I don't need to be insulted by poster after poster when I didn't even insult Phish.
Why don't you guys just agree to disagree? This is a discussion that no one can win.....ever. Maybe concentrate your efforts in a more productive thread? Just saying......only a suggestion. That is all... ;D
Wow. I'm not into Phish, but dude you are coming across as a bit of a self righteous bitch.
So what if you don't like Phish? I don't think we'll see any hippies holding a gun to your head at Roo, forcing you to go watch their sets. So what if the fans defend the band they love? Good for them.
There will be a ton of Phish fans at Roo - so you should probably get used to it and learn to enjoy what they bring to the festival.
Watchin' a stretch of road, miles of light explode. Driftin' off a thing I'd never done before. Watchin' a crowd roll in. Out go the lights it begins. A feelin' in my bones I've never felt before...

It obviously bugs you. You didn't make a statement, but a tactless accusation that all Phish fans are narrow-minded and militant. That is a fallacy, thus, making it inaccurate. Someone commented in a thread that because you don't like Phish you don't like live music. You then proceeded to take issue with this person's opinion and post a bunch of similarly prejudicial opinions about an entire fanbase. You then, furthermore, tried to take control of being made to feel inferior by making yawn-worthy comebacks at those people who were making fun of you.
Look, the only reason I'm involved in this is because I hate to see people getting worked up over a comment that someone made off the cuff that was a total opinion. You could have chosen to shrug your shoulders and move on with your life, but instead you felt challenged and reacted by annoying the crap out of the entire board. Just leave it alone.
And please don't respond with something about it not just being the one person and that you've had "friends" tell you the same thing before. We all know you don't have friends.
See, and judging by your record here you're going to give me the names and phone numbers of your five closest friends.
It gets old. I don't care what shows you've been to or what music you listen to. You most likely don't care what I listen to or like and that's fine. I only care about how you present yourself to me and everyone here and so far you look like a self-righteous d-bag. I'm pretty sure everyone else thinks the same thing. This is who you are to us. If this isn't who you actually are you need to take steps to correct that. I already gave you a boost earlier by knocking your karma back up to zero. I don't think you've been offensive enough to deserve negative karma.

dude radiohead gets played all over the radio here, and for some satire in this situation...if your a fan of south park, you know who radio head is.....and while you say dont insult me..., you may not have come out directly and insulted the phish phans, if you read inbetween the lines of your first post, it sure does sound that way......now i love phish and dont really care for radiohead, but i gotta give them mad props for the work they do....
also radiohead fans saying they were upset about them playing the grammys, thats like saying radiohead fans only want radiohead for themselves and are almost snoby saying, thats my band not yours i dont like you listening to them......even though that is NOT how it is....but thats what your making it sound like.....
on a side note, this thread attacking phish fans is tottaly inappropriate....attacking fans needs to be done over on kanyes forum and i dont want to ATTACK, but simply point out...IMHO putting eron at the end of every post, is kind of annoying...i mean i know who you are when you post, i dont need you to tell me EVERY TIME
<<sweeeeet just got smited after this post <<sweeeeeeeeeet just went back up ;D

You ever notice that some people get really defensive about not liking Phish?
It's ok if you don't like them, really! I wish the crowds at the shows was smaller--there's no need for people who don't or won't enjoy them to be there.
However, if you don't enjoy their music and are *truly* ok with not liking their music, there's NO NEED to attack them or their listeners. By attacking people, you're just bringing more negative attention to yourself.
I think this may be a case of someone *wishing* they got something that they don't and projecting an attitude on a group of people who don't necessarily deserve it.
Watchin' a stretch of road, miles of light explode. Driftin' off a thing I'd never done before. Watchin' a crowd roll in. Out go the lights it begins. A feelin' in my bones I've never felt before...
Lots of people don't know who Radiohead is, just as lots of people don't know who lots of bands are. This thread is full of gross generalizations made by not only the person who started the thread, but others who felt the need to come in and refute what he's said. The fact of the matter is that for every annoying Phish fan, there's probably an equally awesome Phish fan. And this goes for every other band on the damned planet.

Alright, make sure you get a cross representation of age, race, socioeconomic status, height, weight, shoe size, ice cream preference and name of first grade teacher. We want to be sure it's a fair sample because this is of the utmost importance.

I think everyone should like Phish, but I understand that some people don't. If you don't I still have to recommend that you give them 15 minutes of your time at some point Bonnaroo weekend. Just a recommendation. You're free to disregard.
Remember... the more kinds of music you like, the happier you'll be in any given situation. I usually like everyone I see at Bonnaroo.
You know what I've found over the years? Fans at concerts usually suck in general, whether it be Phish or Radiohead or Nickelback.
I'm a big Radiohead fan, but the last show I saw of them I become more annoyed at the fans than at any concert I've ever been to. And I've even seen NSync before. Aint no lie...bye bye bye.
This will be my 3rd Bonnaroo having gone in 06 & 08. I've found that Bonnaroo goers have been extremely nice and courteous and have the best live music etiquette of any others I've been around.
I'm not a huge Phish fan, but I'm not worried about their fans at all. It'll be a good time for everyone.

spoken like a true music connoisseur <<had to use MW to spell that
I am not a phish fan but I do think it is great to see them on the lineup. I know it was a major coup for the Bonnaroo promoters to have them play and a lot of people on these boards and within the greater festival community are really stoked about it which is great.
I had several college buddies who loved phish and even had the opportunity to see them live on two occasions however I could never get into them. This being said I will be at least go to the show and check them out, who knows I may like them now as I am a very different person form when I saw them last 10 years ago. If I am not feeling it I will go back to my camp and take a nap before latenight while all the phish fans party on.
I do love Bruce and will be hanging out there all night and I hope everyone will at least give him a chance but if you are not into it I understand.
I see no reason to disparage anyone for their tastes in music as everyone is different and entitled to their own opinion.

A couple of things. Then I am not responding to this thread any further. Actually that is exactly what I am saying about Radiohead. Check some of the message boards and that is what they fans are saying.
I didn't attack Phish fans I made a post in favor of Bruce getting top billing and was attacked. I made this post as a response. They attacked me for no reason. I didn't even really mention Phish in my post, I was just saying why Bruce was an obvious top billing.
I sign my posts, because I operate under the courtesies that our society has used for thousands of years before the internet. If I am going to take the time to state an opinion or attack a point, then I am going to put my name behind it. It is sad to see people insulting people behind masks of anonymity all the time. Our society isn't where it was even 20 years ago. People walk around with headphones in or on cell phones and rarely have the common courtesy to even say "Hello". Honestly, one of the things I like best about 'roo is that people never act like they do on this message board while they are there. They act like I remember people acting 20 years ago or more. They are social. They don't call people names or mock them just because of one statement.

Just because you are not a fan of Phish does not mean you need to come out and bash their fans and talk down on Phish. Saying that they are "f-ing up" when they play their songs live is ridiculous, they play their music the way they want.
