and sangreal, that's a good question. i could really see it going either way. from a logistical standpoint, it would be good to put a relatively big act up against phish's latenight performance just to draw people away. even though the what stage area is built to hold a capacity crowd, they don't necessarily want one there in the middle of the night.
I don't think JA and NIN touring together really means anything though.
I don't think it does either...just saying that if they do get added, then I don't think they'll be headliner status only because they created one good album and one very good one only about twenty years ago and have pretty much been broken up since. Really, what they're most famous for right now is having Mountain Song on Rock Band and starting Lollapalooza, imo.
yeah, can we at least all agree that if Janes Addiction IS there (which I highly doubt they will be) that they will NOT be a headliner? I definitely see them as a pre-headliner (not that I see them there at all)

i agree that they prob arent big enough to be on par with past headliners for bonnaroo, however i doubt Janes Addiction does any fest that they are not headlining. Perry Farrel will not allow his band to pre-headline a festival that is in competition with his own festival, that he will be headlining. If Janes is at bonnaroo they should be a pre-headliner, but if they come i think they headline.

I see no reason why they would care if there was a big crowd there in the middle of the night. So what? I will give you this though...the only way that BB could play the Which is if in fact Phish were playing the What otherwise I think the Which would be to small to handle the crowd for the BB.
And while I have said many times in this and other threads "we have our headliners" and still feel that way. I thought a little about what Chandler said somewhere in this thread about actual slots open. If you look at it this way... and I think we can all agree that there are 6 positions on the What for "headliner"-type big crowd attracting sets, not counting ,of course, daytime 90 min slots, 3 regular (8-11 or 8:30-11:30) "headliner" slots and then 3 late night spots (after 12 until whatever). Just to play devil's advocate I guess you could say that there IS one of these so-called 'slots' open still if we accept that as of now Phish 2x, NIN, Bruce, Beastie are our 'big' acts. Personally I do not want this schedule to be filled out in this way because the conflicts it would raise would really suck, even more than what is already bound to happen.
Someone mentioned NIN's 'special' set take place like Kanye last year and start at 2:45 I love this esp. if Mars' or whoever else's set was to start at 12 -2:30 or so than both could be caught. Eliminating a major conflict for many.
I don't care what you say about me, just spell my name right---P.T. Barnum "As I was walking up the stairs I met a man who wasn't there He wasn't there again today I wish to God he'd go away."

I just dont get how everyone thinks the Beasties would be flipping their poop right now bc they weren't included in that announcement...
The purpose of the announcement to clear up the confusion of who was gonna be closing out the fest. No one got "snubbed" in the announcement. Why would beasties feel this way, and not NIN, Byrne, Harper TMV etc. There was only two bands mentioned in the announcement, it would be ridiculous if every band that wasnt included got all pissy about it. The announcement had a goal/purpose and it served that purpose, no more no less.

I'm pretty sure the Beastie Boys just sit around a desk snorting copious amounts of cocaine from their giant cocaine mound getting pissed off at every perceived slight.
have you noticed how when people are listing the bands right after the headliners they are always including tmv? tmv is 13th on the bill. but everyone here lists them as if they're higher.

When it is mentioned that the Beastie Boys might be annoyed by an announcement concerning headliners if they are going to headline a night, people are probably including managers and promoters and such under the umbrella.

the reason is it would be disrespectful for AC/Superfly to come and say "everybody heres the headline announcments" and then neglect to mention one of the headliners. they told us the saturday and sunday headliner, but didnt feel it was important to tell us the friday headliner?
i know last year when they made the headliner announcement they told us that Metallica was friday, Pearl Jam was headlining the festival on saturday, Jack Johnson was closing the fest on sunday. they also had an announcement that Phil Lesh and MMJ would get late nights on friday and saturday respectively. i cant rememebr if the headlining announcement and late night announcement were the same or not.
later they came out and told us that Kanye would get the special late night slot as well.

This is what makes me think that they might be playing an earlier night set (5ish) on the Which Stage and not a late night set. They are too big for a tent now but I can't see them playing during the day because Cedric might combust on stage. Haha. I've seen em' during the day but come on! It has gotta be dark for TMV. I'm hoping late night but we shall see.

i don't know if it needs to be dark, but they do need at least 2 hr. late night they could go longer.

^Yeah, the late night would allow a much lengthier set. But I saw TMV in the hot heat of a summer day and I almost died from heat exhaustion. It was awesome but still pretty rough.

i think it will be close to 6 before they go on, if they play during the day. which stage or a tent.

Yeah. I could see the possibility of them in a tent but I almost feel like it would be too risky. They are a pretty big draw and I know that show is going to be packed, whoever they are up against.
I got a headache reading this thread so im gonna have to stop. . . but IMO, the top of the lineup is set. We're not getting a bigtime friday headliner.

youre kind of just repeating the same thing said before without giving any real explanation why they would actually be pissed. , and no i dont think the beasties batted an eye at the fact that they werent on that announcement.
The Beasties are a zany bunch of guys, but they don't seem to be primadonnas, so I can't imagine they would give a squat about this announcement. Managers or agents, perhaps, but I doubt that as well. Still, it was a strange announcement.

sorry bro your right 5 I was thinking late night for 3 days not two my bad...so in light of this then there is absolutely zero room for another big headlining act.
I don't care what you say about me, just spell my name right---P.T. Barnum "As I was walking up the stairs I met a man who wasn't there He wasn't there again today I wish to God he'd go away."

actually if u take last years line up we had 6(and you could argue 7 bigger spots).
Fri headline - Metallica Fri late night - My Morning Jacket Sat pre-headline - Jack Johnson Sat headline - Pearl Jam Sat late night - Phil Lesh Sat late night - Kanye Sun headline - Widespread Panic
and i know that Jack Johnson was a strange circumstance, so even if you take him out thats still 6 spots when you take into account the double billed latenight on Sat.
Hell if they go with What stage action late night Fri and Sat then we still have 7 prime spots without pre-headliners fri or sat.
phil lesh for that matter as well. i also wouldn't consider beasties as a real headliner either, and yes i have seen them, but i would think both nin and even snoop would draw a bigger crowd.

Last year:
I was there and would say there were only five headliners: Pearl Jam, Chris Rock, Metallica, Widespread, and Jack Johnson. And was not a fan of Jack Johnson until I downloaded him off of archive.org. (went to see the Wolfman instead at NOLA "stage")...Willie, I would consider a headliner and Phil Lesh is a personal favorite (but not a headliner)....now The Dead would be one but wish Jerry was there
Edit: not to slight MMJ, but at the time, they were a band to go see. not a headlining band...but now I would consider them a headliner due to last year's epic performance...only, if only I stayed during the rain....damn you rain!!!!
I know there are some holes in this theory, but looking at last year's lineup the billing goes: Pearl Jam (Headliner), Metallica (Headliner), Jack Johnson (Supposed to Headline), Widespread Panic (Headliner), Kanye West (Special Latenight), Chris Rock (Headline Comedian), Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, featuring T Bone Burnett (Sunday Pre-Headliner), Phil Lesh & Friends (Latenight), My Morning Jacket (Latenight).
If we are to say that this years' lineup will be structured the same it would be: Bruce Springsteen (Headliner), Phish (Headliner + Special Latenight), Beastie Boys (Headliner), ? (Headline Comedian), NIN (Special Latenight), David Byrne (Pre-Headliner), Wilco (Latenight?), Al Green (Definitely not Latenight)
Now for the top 5 I can see it being much the same. We know Bruce and Phish are confirmed Headliners. I have no reason not to think BB will be the 3rd headliner. Then perhaps a comedian addition like Chris Rock last year. NIN will have the "Special Latenight" slot that Kanye had. I can see David Byrne getting a slot similar to Robert Plant last year. But this theory starts to fall apart when we get to the two other latenights. There is no way in hell that Wilco and Al Green would be the two Which stage latenight acts.

not to stir the pot any worse but from the people i've been talking to online and off, moe. is supposed to be playing a latenight set on saturday. take it as you will but this is coming from people that i know that have helped promote moe. before and also told me pretty much before tickets went on sale that phish was to play latenight friday and headline sunday and that moe. was very excited to play a special latenight saturday slot. but does that put them in a tent? or would they battle on the which stage against NiN on the what stage? sorry i've been out of the loop for a couple days so i'm not sure if this has been discussed yet. i know i mentioned it a few weeks ago somewhere

I fully agree and believe that moe will get a latenight im betting it will be a tent though. They played the first year and did a 6 hour 2 set till sunrise midnight and it was my first moe show I was blown away! If they are latenight sat this will put them up against NIN, MGMT/Yeasayer, potentially Mars Volta, and Ben harper, its gonna be one crazy night of conflicts if it plays out this way.
