im just wondering why you would want your computer with you. unless i had to do stuff for work i would want to be cutoff from anything other than bonnaroo.
yes i enjoy being cut off from the world, i even get rid of the cell that weekend.
last year our neighbors had their digital camera stolen from them, although they didn't hide it/lock it away. the people at our camp kept valuables out of sight and didn't have a problem all weekend.
It would be good if you have a flash camera and want to unload your pics during the weekend, but you'd be surprised how little time you have/want to fiddle with it. There's too much life to be lived at Roo to be messing about with technology. Last year, they did have internet in Centeroo. They had those weird "stage" pictures for charity or something. And it was air conditioned, so it was nice. Unfortunately, I checked my email and found work stuff in my inbox that I had to deal with. It was stupid.

I rarely leave home without my laptop. I'll have it with me, but probably won't take it out of my truck while at the Roo. I'll be using it on the way up and back home though. I've got cellular internet service I can use at least part of the way there and back to stay connected while actually driving down the interstate.

that's exactly what i had in mind, actually. Camcorder, to be specific. those are allowed, right?
Sort of. I know we got in with one, but I think they might be technically not allowed. If it's small enough, they might not think it different than a regular camera. We stashed ours in a side pocket of a messenger and no one said anything.

my buddy brought his laptop down last year. we used it for mapquest, and some music. but he didn't touch it while we were at Bonnaroo. It is nice to use on the way there and the way back though.
2/5- Papadosio 3/3- MUSE 3/12- John Mayer 3/19- The Werks 3/31- Passion Pit 4/18- Ben Folds 4/20- Against Me! 6/10- Bonnaroo 6/30- Eric Clapton and Roger Daltrey
I brought my laptop in 07. You really don't have much time to mess with it or do anything, so I didnt even bother in 08. I wouldnt want to worry about it being stolen or rained on or anything like that.
I bring my laptop every year but I only use it to pull photos and video down off memory cards and to review the video and photos during downtime between shows and with other people. Be sure to keep it secured in your car (in the trunk with a kensington lock securing it to the car) and if you really concerned about theft invest in Computrace. A software application that locates stolen computers as soon as they are connected to the web and can even remote wipe the information on the laptop while maintaining the tracking capability. If you decide to bring a laptop I also suggest briging a DC to AC power inverter that produces enough wattage to charge you laptop. Chigaco tools make some super cheap ones that work well for this. Finding power at 'roo is a real challenge unless you have friends with a RV.

Power i'm not worried about. I'm going to be building my own solar charging battery with an inverter on it for powering whatever i like. I could probably take orders for others if anyone's interested.

i would think there would be no time to use a computer really... although, i did use the internet cafe once, for a very important cause... going on ticketmaster to buy pearl jam tickets for back home. ;D

I'd be interested in knowing what type of panels you'd be using. I'd love a cheap way to top off a power source over the weekend(s).
Id say, it would probably be a better choice to just buy another memory and you could worry about dumping all your pics/video when you get home. A lost memory card is a lot easier to take than a lost or stolen or broken laptop.

I usually bring mine for clearing out my memory cards, this year memory is cheaper so I might leave it at home. My laptop is about 4 years old, so i dont worry about it too much. It can get 120+ degrees in your car, but laptop batteries run real hot anyways, so they are used to those kind of temps. As far as internet at Roo, I could care less other than maybe posting a facebook message of the great time I will be having.

This is your best option. I had a 2GB card that I pretty much filled up over the weekend last year. I'm bringing 3 of them this time just to be safe.
They have an internet cafe type thing set up inside centeroo, I always go once or twice weekend with my laptop so I can check my E-mails or throw up a random inforoo post.
