Just got out of my first and longest serious relationship a couple months ago. It's crazy how two people can almost be intertwined mentally and physically then seemingly be two strangers whom never met. Regardless having roo too look forward deff help getting over it all !
There's really no such thing as becoming "intertwined physically and mentally".
People are independent creatures that change, often radically, as they grow older. When you're young those changes are happening on a weekly basis, when you're older, they happen suddenly and unpredictably. When you date someone and you feel like you're "becoming one", what's happening is that your brain is building an idealized mental image of them. You attribute thoughts, ideas, beliefs, physical attributes, anything you find pleasant, to that fantasy version of them. But they're a unique person who is changing and growing, and your subconscious isn't consulting them.
At some point in your relationship, you're both, as you said, strangers, because neither of you has been actually dating the real person, you're both have this image of each other that doesn't match reality. I've seen so many breakups with the whole "we drifted apart", "he/she changed", "we just weren't in love anymore" kind of comments, and it's all the same root, they both have an idea of what they want to date that no longer matches an actual person.

But hey, they great thing about realizing all that and getting past it is, your next relationship will be more meaningful. You can date people based on being friends and lovers without expecting to "complete" each other. You can date people who find validation in themselves, and find your own source of validation, which frees you from a ton of unrealistic expectations and drama. Hell, you can date people for fun without an agenda for where it ends up.

Hey my bad if that came off as bitching or this wasn't the correct thread. I don't frequent forums all that often but getting the hang of it. To celestia everything you said makes sense, I won't expand as this isn't thread but deff agree, of course it's always easier to say than do (obviously your doing it, 8 years is awesome!) and to nerdbyrd (sp?), lol when you say gang bang do you mean a whole bunch a dudes taking turns ravishing a lady or just like a good ol classic orgy? I've talked to several people on this forum about tough break ups and it's helped everyone involved. I was in a relationship for 7years, ages 17-24, and we broke up last last year. It took me a solid 5 months or so to fully get over it. This board, more specifically the people on it, are the reason I got through my break up and really helped take my mind off things when I would be feeling down. There is the "grrrr" thread, and the "whine about relationships" thread. Both are helpful. The people on this board are wonderful and if you stick around and get to know them you won't regret it.
And yes, this thread is a giant dumpster fire. Anything goes in here, and we're only half serious about fucking eachother. Although, since you are new here, I'm marrying 1karen1, she'll be fucking runninglouisville at some point in the weekend, nerdbyrd and I will be scissoring, I'm also in love with crippledcamel, easymorningrebel makes us all feel special and bentclip is our resident fluffer.
