Agreed with the last five posters. I don't see why it would be a problem to tell a few people who are having what is essentially a private conversation, to do so in private.

why can't y'all just go to a board you like, and check out the threads that actually interest you? you don't HAVE to use the 20(er, 50) most recent posts function. just like we don't HAVE to use the chat.
also, there are several other options to use besides the recent posts. use the bookmark function, or go to your own profile and look up the threads you've been posting on, and then you can see if there are new posts there.

Well, threads get locked for plenty of reasons. I would think locking one that is nothing but a private conversation between a few people would be as good a reason to lock as any. Particularly when that private conversation is negatively impacting alot of other people's use of the boards through the recent post function - more people than are even actively involved in that thread.
And then there are the board rules: "No flaming, obscenity, or otherwise being rude, this is YOUR scene, keep it clean!" Seems pretty clear cut.
Shame on those minglers, taking up all the space on a FREE message board....I thought the principle behind bonnaroo was to be friends with all the people u meet there? we should selectively weed out the bad internet users, maybe that will do the trick.

the fact that people care THIS much about ONE function of the board baffles me. especially when there are other options of ways to find threads you'd like to post on. does it really take that much more time to think "hmmm...i wanna talk about music. i'm gonna go to the music lounge."

Why should an entire board have to stop using a basic function of the board because four people can't even read and abide by the board rules?
As far as going to the threads people like, at least one thread that alot of people like was completely hijacked for the last two days by that same group of four or five people, so you kind of eliminated the option you're suggesting. Brilliant.

1) if we're breaking board rules, the mods can easily tell us so, and alert us to what we should back off on. i trust their judgement.
2) i have no idea what thread you're talking about, but it IS just ONE thread.
oh yeah...and now this thread is taking up all my recent posts history and totally ruining my overall experience of this board. mods, can we please lock this thread up...it's really only fair.

News flash. People have been banned on this board before, and they will be again. It is not a free for all. And noone said anything about banning. The idea is take a private conversation that is negatively impacting the board as a whole and have it in private. The concepts aren't really that complicated. Know the guidelines of the message board and follow them. Public message board for public conversation, private alternative for private conversations.

sooooo...the next time 4 or 5 people get caught up in a thread about phish or the mars volta or whatever the heck else is going on...they should be forced from the board because it's "private" conversation?
we are free to post wherever we want just like you are. you aren't any better than us, nor are your opinions any more or less important. sometimes you just gotta deal with things that you don't like. life is hard...wear a helmet.
So r u trying to do the mods job for them? The way I see it is, if u don't like a convo, then don't go to that room....thats what I do, works fairly well for me..And what private conversations are you talking about?I wasn't aware that a public message board HAS private conversations....

what you say is true. the point of inforoo, as i take it, is to meet some folks before you show up and have a way of staying in touch afterwords.
and that's awesome.
but, in the few years ive been here, its never been a swinging free love society. have there been hookups before? no doubt. i think there was even a marriage.
if it was up to me, id get rid of mafia and mingle. but even better would be a way to see the most recently modified threads, not just posts. because like you said, you are enjoying it - id prefer to not see every post.
believe me, i dont give a shit what you say or how filthy you are about it. there is virtually nothing you could say that would actually bother or offend me. but that's boring. and i can find that anywhere on the internet.
many of us are here, because of the things that are not here.
^^^u sound like a very open minded individual!!!the spirit of what this board is based on!!!
You just read five different peole say they don't want to read the stuff in that thread, yet you refuse to just take it to a private chat area. Then you smite me. And I'm the close-minded one? Yeah, and you're the rational one, with excellent spelling abilities and a gift for restrained punctuation.

If you are going to cut him down for his spelling then maybe you should check yours first.
Alright folks. Everyone chill. There are valid points on both sides of this argument. If the minglers wanna mingle and post sexual innuendo, then keep it in the mingle thread and don't spread it across the board. I think that would make some people happy. Also this is available and encouraged........

Let's try this one more time - Read the board guidelines. They are quite clear. No flaming, obscenity, or general rudeness. Noone, including you or me, are allowed to post anything we want - there are guidelines. If you followed that instead of getting all defensive, there wouldn't be a problem.

last i checked there were mods to enforce all those rules. and obviously if our thread is so active, they are quite aware of what goes on. if they feel something we have posted is worth a banning, time out, or deletion, then so be it. but, until then, you can either learn to deal with it yourself, or continue to get yourself all riled up over a thread on a public internet forum
I want kelly to climb up on me in just a skirt while im sleeping and little by little go up my body a little more til her camel toe is right in my face then slap me and say "good morning"
That is not sexual innuendo. Innuendo hints. What's above screams and fits every definition of obscene that I know.
Has the board rule about obscenity been suspended? If so, I'll be sure not to log on right after I've eaten in the morning.
Are we certain there's no way to block an entire thread?

choice is yours sweetheart
Last I checked the point of this sub board was to let the mods know what people thought needed improvement on the board. So along with a bunch of other people, I did just that. I'm not riled up, just making a case for a way to have everyone able to use the recent post function happily, without it really doing any harm to anyone. I don't see talking in chat as harmful or a big sacrifice to my free speech, but you guys apparently do, so fine.
Like you said, I'm sure the mods will handle it as they see fit. No big deal.
