Great add. With a new full length coming out May 19 "Manners", and a stellar ep, this would be a great Thursday night band to start off the weekend to.
Anyone wanting to check them out should go to their myspace, and listen to Sleepyhead and their new song The Reeling. www.myspace.com/passionpitjams
These guys rock! A friend of mine went to school in Boston with a few of the band members and told me to check em out. The singer's voice is so soulful and melodic, reminds me of a Freddie Mercury/Jeff Buckley hybrid. AND, that "Sleepyhead" video is really cool too.

Passion Pit strikes me as a band that is going to have a hard time separating themselves from the pack of a million other cutsie-indie electopop outfits out there. And they're not nearly as interesting as, say, School of Seven Bells or Telepathe, to name a couple of comparable bands that have sprung up in the past year.
That said, I caught them last October during CMJ. Tight show, the singer sounds better live than on the EP. I'll probably check 'em out again to see what the new material sounds like if it's a Thursday show.

Anyone check out the new single? I was kind of dubious about them following up the ep, but if the new album keeps up with "The Reeling" it should be a great album. They keep the energy from the ep, and get rid of the chipmunk vocals, all the while taking advantage of the better production.

See I'm going to have to disagree. I think they have SUCH a unique sound. I saw Telepathe last month and by the third song was bored to tears!!!! But to each his/her own. I'm ecstatic about the addition of Passion Pit!!!

I am going to have to agree with you on Telepathe. Based on everything else I listen to, I should really like them, but I thought they were unlistenable.
This is the best addition for me. Public Enemy is a great add in terms of representing the past glory of hip-hop (Beastie Boys also) but I probably won't see them. I can't wait to start the weekend off with them on thursday night.
And dto karma for the article on the band. It seems like the member you interviewed was real receptive to be interviewed even though they've done a bunch of interviews in the past year.

This should be a fun set. I went to school with the bassist and drummer (they clearly dropped out), and they're both really cool and down to earth guys. Besides Sleepyhead and Better Things, I don't like their EP much, but their new single is great and I have high hopes for their LP
i enjoy reading your articles at citybeat (i enjoy everyone's articles there) but your article on tokyo police club actually made me want to go to that show. i knew nothing about them, read the article, went to the show.
Pretty cool video... Exceptionally high level of production on the song... It'll be interesting to see how the new stuff translates to the live setting with how produced of a studio sound is heard... Looking forward to kicking off the Roo with these guys

New Passion Pit song posted on Pitchfork today. It's a little less synthy, and a little more interesting in terms of not the same "dance your face off" stuff they're known for. Enjoy:
