Alright, well... this is my first time going to roo... and my caravan of 10 girls are all new to this (God Help us haha) We're all getting prepared, and we've all camped many times... but...
...how do you guys find your tent!? Is it just like a real camp ground with roads and little culdesacs? I know everything is named after movie characters, but are they actually marked?
Any information is appreciated. I dont really MIND wandering, I just want to know that I'll be able to find my home after a late night

when you go through the gates and turn in your tickets for wristbands, they give everyone a guidebook that has lots of info, blurbs about the bands, the schedule, etc. it also has maps of bonnaroo. i always try to figure out exactly where my tent is as soon as it's up and mark that on all our maps.
2010: 3/12: The Bad Plus/Happy Apple/Buffalo Collision/The Bad Apple 6/10-13: Bonnaroo 6/19: Rock the Garden 7/30-31: Mid West Music Fest 8/21: Los Hombres Calientes 8/31: Marijuana Death Squads 9/11: The Book of Right On w/ City on the Make 9/23: Of Montreal w/ Janelle Monae 10/4: Broken Social Scene 11/23: Grinderman
They keep things OK lit throughout the fest. And there are also the PODS. When you get there and are setting up take the time to figue out which Balloon is closest to you. You can see them from a majority of the farm. They are lit up at night so if you need help all you have to do is look up and walk towards your balloon.
each named site is one large block, and your exact camp site will be among a sea if campers in your named site... getting to your camping area is easy, but finding your tent again can be fun... i found it easiest just to memorize the person's camp that is by the closest road a direct line to your tent... and always carry a flashlight at night to help find guy lines
I make sure to memorize tons of landmarks around my site. In 06 it was something like: Cross the road, follow the powerline, bear right at the car-lot streamers, then get to the fence. It'll be either on your left or right 08 was similar: Walk to semi-BFE. walk some more. just past the last row of portos on the right look for the gorilla on a stick. start waking at a 45* until you see the NC flag.......
Landmarks are definitely the easiest way to find your way back to your camp. Most likely, someone camped around you will have a flag or balloon or some sort of landmark you can see from a distance.
Even if you get lost, other Roo'ers are super nice and helpful, so it won't seem like you're lost at all
Bring something to hang from your car or tent that says "this is my space". A lot of people bring flags and portable poles. Freedomofmusic had a huge sign on their tent that said "OUR TENT".

I have the worst sense of direction, but if you have your map of the campgrounds and pay attention to which POD # you are close to, plus make mental notes of your neighbours cars etc., it really isn't that hard. I have not got lost yet in 3 years so you should be good
And no there are no real paths or anything, you are camped in a huge field with paths around the outside, but where you park and camp, they are lined up pretty well so there is some kind of organization to it.

I found out the girls in my camp made a GINORMOUS "Buffalove" Flag in bright purples and pinks and yellows... That, alongside all the landmarks...I should be good. But I'm sure getting lost even for a little bit is half the fun. New friends are great

As everyone else has suggested, once you get set up take note of the closest POD Balloon. Then find it on your map, and plot the most efficient and straight-forward route into CenterRoo. The first couple times you go in, pay good attention to what streets your turn on and what you pass in terms of vendors, distinctive camps, RVs etc. etc. It's SUPER EASY to pick out landmarks and read the street signs as you go.
Later you can start wandering and exploring the rest of camp, but if you use the same route in and out the first couple of times, you will be amazed at how much of it comes back to you when you are stumbling back home in the early hours of the morning later in the weekend.
On a completely separate note...if you're really bringing a caravan of 10 other ladies, can we hang out?
"We're no longer called Sonic Death Monkey. We're on the verge of becoming Kathleen Turner Overdrive, but just for tonight, we are Barry Jive and his Uptown Five. "

I was terrified of getting lost in camp and not bwing able to find my way back from Centeroo but it was way easoer than I anticipated. I imagined the camp to be much more primitive than it was and also pictured it a lot farther. I was happy when I saw what I was in for. Having a husband with a keen sense of direction helped though. I just followed him everywhere. I get lost in my own city and I have lived here for 28 years.
The balloons are really great and by the second day you could probably get back to your camp woth your eyes closed.....that is unless you trip over a wook and break your ankle.

On a side note: The only time I've ever been lost at Bonnaroo was actually IN Centeroo. Last year, Thursday late (maybe Friday if they closed the way out via What latenight) I couldn't freakin' find my way out and back into camping. I was all turned around and convinced it was some sort of plot to keep us in Centeroo buying $5 lemonades and $6 beers. I started getting a bit tweaked out when it finally struck me.... ask someone. 'Yeah man, the exit's right over there.....'

All of the roads that run through the camping area have street names like "1st Avenue", "2nd Avenue" etc. with street signs on each corner. Make a note of your address and then follow the street signs home. Be sure to mark your campsite with a flag, inflatable, etc. so that you'll spot it as soon as you start getting close.
That's how I roll and I never got lost heading back to my site even in somewhat "challenging" frames of mind.
Last year I could hardly walk headed back to my campsite at 4 AM Thursday and some people were concerned about me and asked if I was lost.
I said "No I'm not having trouble finding my campsite, it's right over there, I'm just having trouble walking there."
You can pick up some solar lights that you can attach to your tent pretty cheap. That way you have decor and a lighthouse. Lakesife has lanterns, dragonflies and butterflies for 12.95 at www.lakeside.com
Make sure you mark your map and know which big balloon you are by. I got extremely lost in 07. It was miserable. You would think that people at Bonnaroo would help a fellow fan out. People just looked at me like I was a moron and basically told me to get lost when I asked them for a map. People were unwilling to even let me sit down at their site to collect myself and figure out where I needed to be.
None of that would happen to you if you were a cute girl, but I thought I was doomed until I heard my friends literally howling laughing when I got near our site...yeah...mark your map...bring something to mark your camp site.

There will be unique tents on your way to your campsite, I just look for that.
Hmm... I need to make sure that my campsite looks as unique as possible at night so that I can get those random girls like you stumbling in on me late at night.
