well - those of us in small town South do understand what you are dealing with. Even here in Jackson - the teenagers cannot get summer jobs and there are adults that have been laid off and cannot find decent jobs. They are the ones working the fast food jobs the teenagers normally work

Selling things at Roo IS a job, so those of you who are telling her to get a job really are not making any sense, as she clearly already has a job for Roo as stated in her first post. And every area of the country is different - just because there are jobs available where one person lives doesn't mean they are available where someone else lives.
A little less myopia and a little more reading before posting would go a long way here.

Yea selling things at Roo is a job.....but you should also try to get some money beforehand. She could easily make money at Roo......plenty of people have that "vacation time" feeling that make them more likely to crack open the wallet. Plus most the things people are selling at Roo are unique and a good deal.
What would suck is if she gets to Roo.......and gets her product confiscated (since they frown on non-official vendors). I'm sure anyone could get by without money as just about everyone is willing to lend a hand on the farm.....but it helps to have a little cash in pocket in case you need it.

I see what you are saying, but again, neither you nor I nor anyone else knows what the job market is like where she is, nor do we have any reason to think she hasn't been looking for work at home. I'm sure you are trying to be helpful, but it maybe isn't really that helpful to advise someone on circumstances we don't know anything about, even if intentions are good.

Actually if you read my first post I asked why a job was out of the question? I wanted to know what the job situation was like because I didn't know.......and before she gave an answer people assumed that I was telling her to go get a job cuz she was a bum...........not the case at all.
I was asking why couldn't she? If a response like "some places it's harder to get a job" or whatever I woulda been like "ouch that sucks, good luck".
I wasn't advising her to do anything. Just asking. Too many people took my question as me being a dickk and not as a genuine question.

I wasn't "questioning her" and i'm sorry if it seemed that way. I thought this was a message board where people converse. Part of conversing is asking questions. I just asked A question. I wasn't implying anything by it nor was I attacking her.
I asked "Why couldn't you get a job". Maybe I should have worded it better but I post from work and I don't have a lot of time to proofread and re-write posts. I just post quick and go about my day......hiding my screen from bosses. But all of this negativity pointed towards me stemmed from me asking a simple question.

I wanted to know more of her situation and right away people began painting me as some villain who kicks puppies. I offered to support her and even wished her good luck and stated that even if she doesn't sell a lot she should be fine.

Bunny may actually force feed you if she gets the notion, at all good she woke me up with a mimosa and a waffle one morning when I was asleep in a chair under the canopies.
BTW all she did was say throw me a beer, and maybe buy some of my handmade goods if you see me. I hate to say it but Bonnaroo needs more of these types of people not less.

To be fair.....she brought up her personal situation by posting this thread to begin with and explaining it. That's why I thought it wasn't so crazy to try and find more info.
But I totally see where you're coming from. A lot of posts on message boards (not just here) stem from judgment. It's so easy to criticize and be thoughtless on the internet.......I just wanted to clarify that none of that was my intention. I am just trying to talk.

Meg your right and I appreciate you calling me out on it. I had had a very hard week at work plus I'm not overly happy in my job as it stands anyway and ended up taking it out on Gnossos in this thread which was uncalled for and I apologise to her as well. Sorry Gnossos..... I was tired and rash and did not mean to portray such a negative vibe. Home life is also hitting some snags- but que sera sera and I don't mean to now be spitting out excuses (my problems should not have come out in negative rants on the boards) suffice to say I was wrong and am smelling the scent in the air and it smells like Bonnaroo to me.
But may I say to be fair I have not been spewing a negative attitude about EVERYTHING and have tried not to let my life infiltrate these boards. The only other negative thing recently I remember going off on is the crocs fashion issue I believe. If I'm wrong sorry to have rubbed youto the point that compelled you to decrease my cool points.
I look forward to actually meeting you Meg and many others from this board at the brunch (this is the year I make it ;D) and don't mean to come across negative.
And I suppose I should state that I did tons of Dead and Phish tour in the 80's and 90's and been there with the no money blues often enough but have swung my way across the country many times over selling this and that some legal some not. i feel for ya. i am also unemployed and have been on the jobhunt for weeks and have not been able to find shit. even if i find a job soon... there is only like 3 full work weeks before roo. the past two roos i've been to i've had $300 but this year will be a lot tighter probably $150 or less. my plan is to bring a lot of my own food instead of buying food there (and i love festy food) and hitting up the grilled cheese stand. merch will probably be cut out of the budget as well. also im driving like 4 other people there so i wont even need to keep a gas budget. i know i kinda turned this post about me, but im just trying to say make a budget for yourself and find a plan.... you still have a few weeks to figure something out... DONATE SOME PLASMA!

See this is the sole reason why I think the headie points are lame squad. Here you have someone that is having a rough go of things at home. And what happens next he is more or less poked with a stick. This is in no way a comment on you Meg but more a comment on the fact that over the net we just dont know what the real life situation is of people. Sure they can be an all out d!ck(not referring to you rojim) but who knows why they have the attitude they do. There have been dozens on messageboard suicides and murders that have occurred in our society. I dont see any huge difference between people dishing out negative points and people flat out trolling and berating members just to get a rise out of them.
It doesnt effect me at all, I could care less if my points were +999999999 or -99999999999. But some people take it to heart. Sorry to threadjack.

Can you guys please just give us a heads up on what it means to get caught "unofficially vending"? Do they kick you out? Take what you have on you? Get crazy and stake you out, follow you to your camp and ransack your belongings?

i have seen campsites searched for unofficial t shirts before. they get the guys on the atv's. its a big deal to them...

you don't have anything in your home that you can sell on ebay for at least a few buck? cds? concert shirts? saved by the bell on dvd? i know cds and dvds don't sell for much on ebay but if you sell enough of them that might be enough to keep your belly full of grilled cheeses for the weekend. a good chunk of the money i'm using for roo this year is coming from selling music gear that i don't need or use anymore.
This thread warmed my heart, really. I work as a property manager and all day long all i hear from is angry people b1tching about something or other. Sure, a few of you made negative remarks, but the majority of the people are just sweetheart. Honestly guys, you make me want to be a better person.
Of course if you're in need and i have something you can benefit from I will always share. I wish Roo mentality was much more wide spread because it truly is beautiful. Pardon me for sounding too emotional...but it's truly truly awesome and you guys do rock.
I don't know if any of this helps since you live in a totally different world than I...but to make some loot when I was unemployed I did the following: Applied and got several small jobs through a temp agency, did some shoppers reports, helped the neighbors with their gardening, walked people's dogs and babysat. I wish you well and if I see you I will certainly help you out as much as I can. Remember, the Roo is probably the BEST place to be with little $ as most people are just lovely and warmhearted as most have shown in this thread!!!

Basically just buying water because ice cold water sounded better then the 95 degree water that was in my back pack and I bought food when we were in a hurry to get to a show or too lazy to walk back to camp. I ended up spending most of it our last day there just so I could have stuff to bring home

Last year, the only money I spent on the farm was $6 for a beer before WSP Sunday night and $20 in the campground Monday morning for 3 T-shirts. I brought all my food and beer, wine and liquor and drank the well water, always taking an empty bottle into Centeroo to fill up and sneaking in my alcohol. Oh, i did spend another $55, I think on Shakedown Street too, but only $6 in Centeroo for the weekend.
