And where is the best spot east of the Mississippi?
I started to fish when I was really young, like 5 or 6. I didn't get into it until I was about 20. Since then I've gotten a lot more into it. I took up surf casting which takes up the majority of my fishing time even though I like lake fishing better.
Best place is difficult to say. First off, best place for what kind of fishing. For surf casting the hot spots are Montauk, NY, Cape Hatteras, NC and Cape Cod, MA which has been immortalized in many how to books and other fishing lit. It's also where I caught my last striper.
For large and smallmouth bass the nod goes to FL. Lake Okeechobee may be the actual spot. Never fished it. Never fished Hatteras either. I really want to spend a weak on Lake O.
Trout ??? no clue.
Big game like Tuna and Marlin could be anywhere. Shark fishing east of the Mississippi would probably be Montauk. There's also snook, tarpon, permit, sea bass, blackfish, flounder and a thousand other things that folks fish for that.
I'd have to say London Calling. It's my all time favorite album. I'm a big fan of the first album too, but my 10" vinyl of Black Market Clash is one of the prizes of my collection. I also have a complete set of 7" singles for the record.
Would it be fair to say you got backdoored into being BMOTM?
Favorite beers?
Leave my backdoor alone....
Drafted would be a better term. I was hoping to hold out for a busier time of year, but considering my overwhelming work schedule as of late it's probably better this way.
Favorite beer would have to be Guinness on tap. I'm also a big Heineken fan. I think that if I could get it often enough Shiner Bock would be my favorite beer. That stuff is great. Another reason I might move to TX.
1. When can we expect those pics...........so I know when to stay off the board?
2. Do you truly hate hippies. or is that a over compensation because you really are one at heart?
Oh I'm definitely not a hippie. I don't really hate hippies, but I do hate laziness. I also hate wastes of life. If you're a 50 year old man with a beard and a skirt who hasn't showered in a week, has no job and is walking around at all good yelling "Where's my headies?" you pretty much disgust me. Otherwise I don't mind hippies so much. It's more of a shtick than anything. I'm also all over the road politically and the knee jerk leftism that comes along with a lot of hippies is frustrating to me. (As does the knee jerk conservatism that comes from the hyper-christian crowd.) I have no patience for preachy vegetarians and vegans. I also can't stand environmentalists that spew factless propaganda and have no understanding of science or a warped and misinformed understanding. If someone tells me to "stop global warming" one more smurfing time I'm going to go smurfing batshit.
I believe you said you're a drummer. Please describe your kit.
Ah. Well the really awesome cool one is an Oooooooold Gretch from the sixties. It's a 5 piece with matching snare and a 24" bass drum. That one is in my dad's basement waiting for me to get together the money to have it refurbished. I played in a lot of crazy metal and punk bands on that thing and it's a bit weathered. Until I get that back in full working order I have this Yamaha Stage Custom at my place.
I used to have more cymbals, but my ex bass player turned junky stole them and sold them for NO NO WORD!!! money.
If you were to get a[nother] dog tomorrow, which breed would you get and why? (preferably a breed which you have not had as a pet before)
I always get shelter mutts, but have had the inclination to adopt a greyhound from one of those track dog rescues.
What's the heaviest fish which you've ever caught and what kind was it?
The heaviest fish I ever ever caught was only and 18 pound striped bass. That is not at all large for a striper and I fish for them regularly. I do target quantity more than quality (lots' fo small fish vs. a few big fish), but would still like to get myself a nice 30/40+ pounder. That's a proper trophy fish.
Do you typically catch and release?
Almost exclusively.
Are you a nonbeliever of global warming and it's potential effects on the world?
The world get's hot. The world gets cold. It was really hot when the dinosaurs were around. Then it got real cold. A few times. It always has been this way. It has adverse effects on people. The world will do fine without us. The global temperature fluctuates. Recycling and conservations and reductions in pollutants are all good things, but hey won't prevent the inevitable. It's gonna get hot. And cold. And do it all again. What has been dubbed "global warming" is a scare tactic. Its based on bad science so they changed the name to climate change, because well, the climate is changing. I've got news for you. Everybody who said the world was ending was wrong or lying. Every one in all known history. I'll make my judgment based on that 100% track record. I guess that's a yes.
If you were to be stranded on a desert island with one Inforooster whom you have not met in the flesh, who would it be?
That's a great question. I've met a few. Hmmm... who looks the most tasty in their avatar? And like I could take them?.. ...Um... seriously. That's tough, because I've met a lot. I guess Hippie in Austin or Superbek. They seam like they would be able to put up with me.
If you had to live rest of your life with only beer or liquor as your poison of choice, which would it be?
Shiner Bock. Got flavor and goes down easy. As much as I love Guinness I would make this decision based on practicality. Shiner would serve me better.
What's your favorite photograph which you've ever taken?
Interesting question. Lately I would say a shot of my girlfriend's hands holding a wine glass taken from underneath looking up. I took it with a 24mm f/1.4 @ 1.4 so the only thing in focus is the very bottom of the base of the wine glass. If I weren't in an airport I'd post it. It's not on my computer. That answer could change if I ever have time to shoot again.
If you had to eliminate two of the following hobbies from the rest of your life, which would you keep? 1) Fishing 2) Drums 3) Drinking
That would really suck. I would definitely eliminate drinking, but the other two are gonna be tough. I guess that I fish more than I drum lately, but I barely fish lately because of work. I would never want to feel that I could never do either of those things again no matter how long I went without doing them. That would be the worst part, not being able to look forward to it. Hm… I guess I can’t actually stop drumming even if I give it up. I could always dance and tap my fishing rod – which I do.
If you had to pick one, who would you rather see live... Phish or Celine Dion?
Definitely Phish. They have a few songs that I like and they make a lot of people I know very happy.[b/]
If you were to move to any city outside North America, where would it be?
I have never been outside of North America. I sort of want to say Tokyo, but I hate crowded cities and congestion. I just want to go there because it seems insane. I guess Dublin.[b/]
Iphone or Blackberry?
I don’t have either one, but definitely iPhone.[b/]
Do you prefer real or faux Christmas trees for your home?
I hate Christmas and do not put up any tree in my home. For the pragmatic sake of fire safety I would say fake, but I go out of my way to ignore xmas as much as possible. I detest that entire time of year.[b/]
Do you hold the door open for men when walking in/out of buildings?
Sometimes.[b/]
What's the least favorite job you've ever had?
Ooooooh. Well there is more than one truth be told. The worst job I ever had was the production coordinator/equipment manager for a nightly news show that was staffed completely by interns. None of the students knew how to do anything. Half of them didn’t care. The “technical” guy (my boss) who was supposed to teach them the tech stuff was the biggest slacker going. Did absolutely nothing. He and I were both supposed to work 7 hours a day with a 3 hour break in the middle for a total of 10 hours. Only problem was that I would get sent out to shoot stories all morning and come back around 2:00. He would wait for me to get back and then go to lunch. The theory behind this was that at least one tech guy was needed at all times, but in truth we weren’t needed in the morning. We weren't needed until around oh 2:00. He would split when the shit hit the fan and come back an hour before show time leaving me with all the work and no lunch. One day I got pissed and just went on my lunch break. I was scolded and told never to do that again. In essence I was forbidden from eating lunch. We were technically employed by a college. Had I known better at the time I would have gone straight to HR. I was young and naive. The other awful thing about that job was that the students thought that I was like a TA or something and didn’t listen to my instructions. Very often I was put in charge of getting the entire show done and made the director/program manager/chief engineer for the day. They showed me zero respect when in that position. I begged my coworkers (3 of them) who taught a class attached to the internship program to explain that I was an employee and not a student and that they needed to listen to me. Not once did they ever do that. The last week I was there a new student even asked how many days a week I interned. I got the last laugh when I got a job offer to start immediately and just walked. Oh the stories I heard about their struggles after I was gone.
The other one was a job I had working at a wedding studio. I was hired to shoot and edit videos, but spent most of the time working as still photo assistant which meant far less pay. I worked for the most miserable despicable son of bitch bastard mother fucking scumbag cock sucking piece of shit degenerate arrogant piece of walking fucking subhuman feces who ever walked the fucking Earth. I walked out on him right before a shoot, because if I hadn’t I would have gone to jail. If I ever see that bastard fuck again I might kill him. He makes me wish I was Jesus so that I could torture him to death and bring him back and do it again every fucking day. And I don’t even believe in Jesus.[b/]
Did you/where did you attend college?
SUNY Purchase, Nassau Community College, and the New York Institute f Technology[b/]
Which would be more influential in your decision to attend a music festival: the lineup or your friends attending?
My inclination more than anything. Both would be a factor. I go for the fun and the music. If i didn't know anybody playing or attending, but the whim hit me I'd go alone.
I copied the text of this post and answered question on the plane back from VA and still didn't finish. I'm not back in my new home office and continuing. Quite the list Strum.[b/]
What would be your ultimate collaboration of 6 musicians: 2 guitarists, 1 drummer, 1 bassist, 1 keys and 1 vocalist.
Johnny Winters, Ted Nugent, me, Mike Watt, Franz Nicolay and David Johansen. That's just off the top of my head, but I think it would be a damn fine band.
Do you have a favorite NFL or college football team?
I'm a NY football fan. I have a soft spot for the Jets because I shot sideline highlights of them for three seasons. The Giants are the Giants. Plus the Giants beat the 18 and Doh! Cheatriots. I hate the fucking pats.
Have you ever gone skydiving, and if not... is it on your so called "Bucket List?" I would like to sky dive. I have no bucket list though. I just do sh*t. Family Guy, Simspons, or South Park?
Simpsons, but I like them all.
Desktop or Laptop?
Laptop
Which requires more strategy and skill to win... Chess or Checkers?
Chess. I am often beaten by 8 year olds at checkers who have not idea how to play chess.
If you had the power to make the sky any color other than blue, which color would you make it?
I don't have to change it. It changes color all by itself.
Is there any band/musician still performing these days which you would pay $200 to see live?
I think they are all dead. If anything occurs to me I'll get back to you
I think that may have been Strums Myspace questionaire for you Maniac.
Best show youve ever seen?
Who's gonna be in the World Series?
Best show would probably be David Burn at the Bowery Ballroom a number of years back. Brian Setzer Orchestra at Irving a few years before that was also great. I saw Pink Floyd for my first show at 11. It's hard to be more awestruck by a performance than that. I've found that I can't really judge shows like that anymore. I've seen too many that deserve the title, but shows are so different. I can say that the New York Dolls on Thanksgiving Eve with all the Go Go dancers for Little Stevens Birthday was the most fun show ever.
I worked for the most miserable despicable son of Ann Coulter Love Child mother smurfing scumbag Rush Limbaugh sucking piece of nuts degenerate arrogant piece of walking smurfing subhuman feces who ever walked the smurfing Earth.
Stewart Copland. He's got some serious chops and incredible style. So much of what the Police did was very simple stuff with Stewart adding all of the color that made it interesting. His style is also subtle. When he's doing something that's over the top incredible it's more slick than in your face. Stewart makes you listen.
I love Ginger Baker, but from the time period and for the style I would go with Mitch Mitchel who is basically Kieth Moon with music lessons and Keith is my boy.
I'm really not a Neil Peart fan at all. I don't care for Rush, and despite his abilities I find very little musical about him. It's like he can play anything, as long as he doesn't have to do it with feeling. He's too robotic and sterile for my taste.
Books: Under the Banner of Heaven: A Story of Violent Faith, Jon Krakauer Skinny Legs and All, Tom Robbins Ken Schultz's Fishing Encyclopedia, Ken Schultz (Didn't actually read the whole thing. It's reference book.)
Next show that I am certain of will actually be them again this Thursday. After that Voodoo in NOLA. Maybe something else in between. It's fishing time and that takes priority. Especially since I've barely fished this year. Gonna hit it haaard this week.
Plans: I had a dinner party last night. Cocktail weenies wrapped in brown sugar glazed bacon, jalepeno peppers stuffed with cheese and sausage, stuffed shells with sausage sauce and mustard crusted lamb chops. I didn't do any of the cooking.
I don't get guilty over musical pleasure. I guess most people, if they were me, would site my complete lunatic obsession with Tom Jones. I see no reason to hide that or feel guilty about it. I do think that Beyonce's Single Ladies is pretty good and I'll actually leave it on when I pass it on the radio. That would probably be the only thing that I actually consider a "guilty" pleasure. I think I'll go download that and put it on my ipod. ;D
Lately Stuck Between Stations and You Can Make Him Like You by the Hold Steady get stuck in my head. In particular You Can Make Him Like You. Working for a camera manufacturer we talk a lot about our dealers. The first line in the song is "You don't have to deal with the dealers...." Once someone at work mentions dealers the song starts playing in my head.
Williamsburg all the way. Fuck Queens. Queens sucks.
