We're looking to get to WalMart around midnight on wed. night. (Leaving buffalo, NY around 7 a.m. that day) Look for the "Camp Buffalo" flag with an old school Buffalo Sabres logo on it and stop by if you're there. We will be prepared...
About what time do they usually open the gates on wed or thurs morning?
also, to bump ml7667's question "Forgive me if this has been asked a million times but I can't really find a solid answer. If you show up Wednesday night/very early Thursday morning are you more or less susceptible to a police search?"
Oh...is that true? My crew needs to create a new plan then..
yup - they will let you in on Wednesday night but you will have to camp with your car and then haul your gear in the morning - they don't let people into tent only until around 8 I think
Oh wow I'm glad I saw this. So is it true they dont open tent only till around 8? I'll have to change my plans too if this is true.
in 05 and 06 we showed up weds afternoon and were always within the first 100 cars in, they put us in james bond which imo isnt really far at all it was like a 10 min walk to centeroo and you have woods close by to hang out in and take shits in if you dont wanna walk to the portapotty
what time did you get there? we're debating about it this year. last year we got there at like 10pm and ended up camping at the end of BFE. other years we got there around 7pm and ended up right in the middle. we're thinking about 7ish this year but we may go earlier if we can get closer to the very front of BFE.
also whats this i hear about police searches? in all my years of attending i've never seen this go down. i wasn't there last year though. is this a new thing?
"Disobedience, in the eyes of anyone who has read history, is man's original virtue. It is through disobedience and rebellion that progress has been made." Oscar Wilde (1854 - 1900), The Soul of Man Under Socialism
"You're either on the bus or off the bus." Ken Kesey
"When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro." Hunter S. Thompson
Past three years I have gotten there around 10PM on Wed and been in BFE. I don't mind it a bit but this year I may wait till around 4 or 5 AM and see what we get. I'd like to be out of BFE but love not waiting in the lines.
you might want to go in later than that if you don't want to be in BFE. i went in last year around 6 am and i ended up in BFE...
i've always been in BFE... it's crazy out there... it's like bonnaroo's "base" or something... i reckon you have more dreads per square foot than any other campground in the festival... i'm a big fan of it. but i'd like to camp a bit closer this year...
and, are there any threads that talk about arrival times versus camping locations...?
i mean, i'll be arriving at 1pm on thursday or 6pm thursday evening.... i wonder how big a difference that will make?

Yes there are. I think the consensus is that it's pretty random where you end up, no matter what time you come in, unless you do what I and a few other people are doing and come in Tuesday and camp in Volunteer Camping.

what about waiting in line? i've always come in on wednesday night or very early thursday morning.... i wonder when the line is the longest?

I think Wed. night would be the shortest line, but definite BFE. Thurs. am means a longer line, but a chance for a better location. I've never come in before around noon - 1 pm Thurs. myself before this year.

we got there round 1pm, usually left NY around 12/1 am cause I love driving at night.

I have never been to Bonnaroo, so I'm just speculating here, but it seems likely that the police would concentrate more heavily on being there and searching vehicles on Thursday when the bulk of the crowd is coming in. On the other hand, with fewer vehicles coming in on Wednesday night, it might be more likely that you get searched. I for one have nothing to fear from the police (at least while going in and out), but it would be nice to get through the gate without having to tear my vehicle apart.

keep in mind also - easier to search in broad daylight then it is to search at night time -

Never been to Bonnaroo, but lifetime experience says cops search people they find suspicious. My wife used to have brightly-dyed hair and multiple facial piercings. Her car got searched everytime she or any of her friends (who looked similar) got pulled over. Her ex-boyfriend's car got dismantled on two incidents. I have always looked like a teacher/professor. My car has never been searched by the police.
To answer the original question, I will sleeping comfortably at home near Knoxville.
question.. are there any truck stops that offer showers around the manchester area? I'd love to be able to take one wednesday night before getting all gross and sweaty.
Dude, I seriously can't concentrate on anything but bonnaroo right now. . .It's to the point where I'm poking myself in the eye with foreign objects. . . I think I just need to be sedated until Tuesday. . . . Dystopian Dream
Oh man I can't wait. Just realized that TICKETS SHIP TODAY WOOOO
should have them friday!
It's a little disappointing that I won't have a ticket this year, since I'm volunteering. I'll probably buy one off eBay afterwards. On the other hand, I won't have to worry about missing Thursday this year because UPS took 3 days to deliver my ticket they were paid to deliver in two.
