Just preordered MMJ's Okonokos 4 LP reissue! This is going to be a staple in my collection.
Bless you. I had no idea this was being reissued. So, so glad I talked myself off that ledge multiple times
Awesome!!! Glad that helped someone out! And tell me about it. I jumped out of my seat when I saw the announcement. Nobody wants to pay $200 for it on eBay!
Wilco's new album is available in black 180 gram vinyl (everywhere), orange (from their website), and pink (in independent vinyl stores) if I'm not mistaken.
Also that's like the least adventurous list. If you asked people who collect records to name great record stores they've never been to, Amoeba, Grimey's, Academy, Jackpot and Vintage would probably come up. >_>
Oxford, MS is one of the best towns in America. It's about an hour from the birthplace of Elvis (Tupelo) and an hour from the land of the legendary BB King. You are welcome to bash Mississippi all you want but Oxford is a rare gem in the state... even celebrated a rare moment a few weeks ago (a gay pride parade in Mississippi!)... and their record store is one of the best. Don't knock it until you try it.
It's a state that has the confederate flag and Ole Miss is a school whose sports teams pay homage to the confederate army
When either of those things change, maybe I'll consider visiting Oxford
Ole Miss does not pay homage to the confederate army. Our mascot is a bear now. All band songs have been removed with references to the confederate army.
On a side note, Ole Miss has even removed our own state flag from the college's flag poles. It's become a rare diverse college in a state rooted in racism. It offers a lot of non-music culture, too. It's probably more known for being William Faulkner's town than anything else non-sport related. It even has a great concert venue on the square where most of the bands picked on this board's Album of the Month play.
while in montreal for osheaga, we checked out a few awesome record stores. with the exchange rate and a discount with our festival wristbands, we got some great deals. bon iver - for emma, forever ago. sufjan stevens - illinoise. brand new - deja entendu. regina spektor - begin to hope. broken social scene - you forgot it in people. nofx - 22 songs that weren't good enough to go on our other records.

My local vinyl store has a ton of Modest Mouse's "This is a Long Drive..." on vinyl that are "bent" from the manufacturer. I looked at them and most are in near perfect condition aside from an extremely small crease. He said they were in great shape but he couldn't sell them as new (ethically) - he still has several. $10! Can't beat that...
Is buying the bootleg TLOP vinyl worth it? How is the sound and quality of packaging, etc?
Bump
I've always been a little scared to do bootleg. I keep thinking the moment I buy it, Kanye's TLOP & Yeezus... and Frank Ocean's Channel Orange will be released by the artist. Surely they will eventually be released...

bootleg vinyl is never worth it. at best they are just ripping a CD (or FLAC) and cutting it into a vinyl, at worst it could even be an MP3. and modern contemporary vinyl quality is shoddy enough as it is, a bootleg unauthorized vinyl is more likely to have physical problems, meaning noisy shitty sounding vinyl. save your money.
