I'm up to 13 records within a week. Good luck to my savings account.
I did, too, but figured it was an automated follow-up since I had opened and clicked on the previous "You can swap your vinyl if needed" email.
Still unsure what I'm going to do. I may just get it for some of the reasons postjack listed.
i was going to swap originally but my boyfriend saw the BVSC record and had a meltdown of excitement so I’m going to give it to him. It was very adorable.

Yeah just got the email about raising prices. I was okay when third man vault raised prices by $5 but this is a bit more of a jump. May renew once more with the discount and then be done myself
For the first time in over three years, the cost of a renewing VMP subscription will increase beginning with September Records of the Month. Why is this the case? So we can keep up with the rising costs associated with the high quality of our records. We're also excited to launch discounted member pricing on all future store products as a new member perk.
Best-in-class vinyl and musical exploration is what we’re all about -- every detail matters. From remastering albums from the original tapes using top mastering engineers, to using the best print & vinyl manufacturers, to ensuring creators are compensated fairly for their work.
Recognizing you as a loyal member of VMP, when you renew your membership in September, you will receive our guaranteed lowest pricing.
3 month term: New member price $119, your renewal price $89.25 6 month term: New member price $219, your renewal price $164.25 12 month term: New member price $399, your renewal price $299.25

Oh wow, yeah I forgot some people sign up for multiple records, not just the one a month that I had usually done. Reading people's reactions in that reddit thread about how much more they would be charged for their same subscription is wild.

I jumped on Vinyl Me Please for the first time in years just last month. Got TV on the Radio, Four Tet lined up for August and Spiritualized for Sept. I was really looking forward to maybe keeping my membership if the next round of previews was interesting.
There is zero chance I'm going to keep my membership for $40 a record. This seems like an insanely shortsighted business decision. There are very few circumstances where a 50% increase in price is a good decision. I can see them backtracking on this when they lose a substantial chunk of membership.

I was considering re-joining for at least three months starting with Spiritualized... but looks like that will be one month and done.
It weirds me out how much some people buy from VMP. Like they're all usually high-quality stuff but do you really want a record collection that's all from the same place?
It’s cool but the idea wore down on me after a year of membership. I think their business model would work way better if it wasn’t a subscription and they just released a limited batch of a cool record every so often

I couldn't even suggest it to people starting to collect, honestly. $85 for 3 albums is too rich for me. They have good taste but I only re-upped for Spiritualized.
Totally agree with KPO . It would be better as limited batches that are open to everyone.

I think they do something like that but it's only for pretty specific records. I'm tempted to grab their mono reissue of Margo Guryan's Take a Picture and the only added member benefit is free shipping. But that's probably one of the exceptions to their mostly member-exclusive releases.
For Bandcamp day, I got the following: Moses Sumney - græ, Ty Segall - Manipulator, Blood Orange - Freetown Sound, and Jenny Hval - The Practice of Love. I have few more in my list, but I'm gonna wait for the next month as I already spent a lot of money on vinyl last month.

idk this to me is the biggest thing where, if you're a member of something you should get access to it. It was in that thread that one of their VMP exclusives sold out and started getting thrown on eBay so whats the point of being a member there?
My GF subscribed to magnolia record club and they did the same thing with the new Avett Gleam 3, so she couldn't get one but there are already a ton of pre sale records listed on eBay.
Holy shit. Thanks for bring this up. I gotta remember to cancel after next month ships. $119 for 3 months is outta my price range. I'd rather spend it on stuff I want vs. stuff I might want.
E: lol and they don't make that easy to cancel apparently. I guess I'll be emailing soon.
For this Bandcamp Friday I picked up Helado Negro's This Is How You Smile, Hiss Golden Messenger's Hallelujah Anyhow, and Jeff Parker's Suite For Max Brown. I'm especially excited about Suite For Max Brown because they'd only been offering the UK pressing for a while and it would've been around $40 shipped. This new press was only $23.
i completely understand people wanting to cancel VMP with the significant price increase, but the outrage posting on the subreddit is a bit over the top. i take issue with people getting super angry about it, and throwing in things like how dare they do this "during a pandemic and significant unemployment". i mean it's vinyl, it's very much a completely unnecessary luxury good. they're not jacking up the price of food and medicine. like almost all the music ever recorded is legally available on the internet for $10/month or free with ads.
i guess i understand people who have been "loyal subscribers" for a long time being unhappy, but i have a hard time reading all these open letters written with the gravitas of newsletters from the French Revolution.
having said that i'm here through Spiritualized, and we'll see after that.
We just joined VMP this past June, for a 3-month essentials track subscription. We renewed RIGHT before they announced the price hike like 2 weeks ago, this time 6 months. And that'll be it for us, unless they offer us a discounted extension...With a discount, it still may not be enough for us to stay on. Such a shame, but there are many other options out there so fuck 'em.
This is my favorite album by them, and I was bummed I didn't snag one last summer when it was first released. Anyway, it's much better getting it here than discogs/ebay where I've seen it go for $80+.

I got my two remaining Vinyl Me Please records today (White Stripes De Stijl and Buena Vista Social Club). I was going to renew at the one-time cheaper price but realizing now that I don't really know Spiritualized and also didn't have a ton of things I knew I wanted in the "Swap" options so I may just cancel my subscription.
That adn the fact that it looks like some releases get put up on Amazon and Discogs marketplace for reasonable pricing so if I want any specific release I'll likely be able to grab it as a one-off.
Can't justify paying even more for what we get currently when I have way too many records as it is lol. De Stijl sucked me back in, though. I needed to get that.

I'm waiting till I get the shipping notice for "Ladies and Gentlemen.." and I'm gonna cancel.
Has anyone ordered from overseas as of late? I did a few months ago and it was still pretty spot on. I waited 6 weeks from Germany. I just ordered a fresh batch from the Netherlands and a solo from Switzerland and can't figure out if it's gonna be a waiting game or not. Even worse, I messed up and didn't get tracking on the Swiss record and I already regret that.
