In no particular order --Phish both nights, but Sunday was way better --Hockey, I knew they'd be awesome. It was funny when the bass player started munching of fungus during the last song. --The Low Anthem. It started out slow but man, that 4th song when the lead singer played drums and they brought out the stand up bass, damn. Plus I got goose bumps when the rain really started going and the wind almost blew the roof off the tent. You could see the tent coming off of the metal support beams. Awesome. --Zach Brown Band. I hate country but damn those boys can play. The first song blew me away. First "country" band that I've heard play reggae. --Grace Potter was the set of the weekend for me. So much so, that I saw them twice and got amazing pics of Grace's legs. Plus, I found out that her bass player, Catherine Popper, used to play with Ryan Adams. I knew she looked familiar. --Beastie Boys. --Katzenjammer on the Sonic Stage. These girls are highly talented. --Bon Iver. I was so happy to see the Dearland boys come out during this set. They were a lot livelier than I thought they'd be. --Todd Snider. He's one of the most entertaining men I've ever seen on stage. His stories are priceless. --The Lovell Sisters. Beautiful and talented.

Can't really put an order on this except GB and Byrne were my two favorties: Grizzly Bear Byrne Passion Pit Wilco The Decemberists Phoenix Yeasayer (despite being way to short) Bon Iver Allen Toussaint (Thank you to whoever wrote the Artist Bio) Springsteen Top to bottom this was my best Bonnaroo I didn't see a single show that I would consider bad.

*Meeting Michael Showalter and Michael Ian Black.* Showalter threatened to kick my f.ucking ass! 1) Beastie Boys - Finally seeing the first band I ever enjoyed listening to at Bonnaroo...man, what a show. 2) Animal Collective - I thought the sun was going to ruin the show, but it cooled off as the show progressed. Their show delivered in every way possible for me. Being with Molly during their set was a great decision. 3) Santigold - "You guys ready to blow this f.ucking tent up?" 4) Girl Talk>Oakenfold - dancedancedancedancedance 5) My Name Is John Michael - So happy to see a local New Orleans band rock at Bonnaroo. The crowd seemed to really enjoy it. Also seemed like the crowd grew as the show progressed. 6) Of Montreal - First time seeing them, only knew a few songs but still had fun 7) Kaki King - 2nd time seeing her, good show. 8) Rodrigo y Gabriela - Amazing, wish they played some of their covers 9) Cage the Elephant - Unexpectedly fun 10) Wilco - always reliable
1.Phish headline set- The first set was incredible, Trey was really ripping it up and was on point and the Bruce collab was one of the coolest things ive seen in my life. The second set wasnt as good but it had its moments. As a whole I preferred the headline set over the late night.
2.Phish Late Night- The last section from Harry Hood on was absolutely killer, especially the YEM>Wilson>YEM. Could have been alot better if they hadnt played some songs that I hate that would sort of kill any momentum they were starting to build up. (Alaska, Wading In The Velvet Sea)
3.NIN- Definitley the best I have ever seen them, really loved the setlist and Trent had alot of energy, so sad I will never see them again. (Supposedly)
4.Bon Iver- I got chills at several points during this song and I will never forget the wolves sing along at the end, absolutely incredible.
5.The Mars Volta- I went into the show not knowing what to expect after hearing they are so hit and miss live but they were definitley on at Bonnaroo and Cedrics voice sounded in top form. (It sounded like his voice is pretty spotty live from Youtube clips.)
6.Bruce- Loved the show, I think it could have been alot better if he had just made some better setlist selections but I really cant complain.
7.Wilco- I only caught about an hour of there set but they are so good live, I was expecting them to be good but not THAT good.
8.Grizzly Bear- They sound even better live then they do on record and they sound amazing on record.
9.Moe.- Only caught about an hour after NIN but they were absolutley killing it and it sounds like they played for another hour after I left.
10.David Byrne- He put on a good show, maybe not as good as I was expecting but the show definitley had its moments.

Honorable Mention to Snoop Dogg and Russian Cricles who would have been on the list if I had seen all of their shows.

My top 10 are . . . 1. Phoenix 2. Okkervil River 3. The Boss 4. Elvis Perkins 5. A.A. Bondy 6. Wilco 7. Grizzly Bear 8. The Dirty Projectors 9. Katzenjammer 10. Ted Leo
Phoenix was so so so so good. They exceeded every expectation I had for them. I got totally sucked into the tunes during 1901 and started dancing uncontrollably.
Okkervil was amazing as always. Their was not too much I wanted to see on Sunday so my wife and I decided to get their really early and camp at the center of the rail and it was totally worth it. The only bad part of sitting on the rail was that we had to sit through Brett Dennen . . . who sounds like Hootie in the Blowfish covering reggae music in a really really gay way. But, we did discover A. A. Bondy who is amazing. I had never heard of him before and he totally blew me away.
We were really close for Wilco and the Boss and both were a blast. I still can not believe Bruce played Santa Clause is comming to town.
Byrne would probably be in the top 5 if the humidity had not jumped 60% in the ten min prior to his set . . . causing me to leave the front and sit in the back.

Honorable Mentions: Passion Pit; Katzenjammer; Girl Talk; Of Montreal
10. White Rabbits- They just looked like they were having a ton of fun up there and that's what it's all about. I only knew one song by them and a lot of their songs sound similar but they played with so much energy I didn't really care.
9. Dirty Projectors- Part of the time I was like "Oh my God wow" and part I was kinda like "whatever". Still the wow moments make this in my top 10. David Byrne coming out in the end was epic. The sound for "Stillness is the Move" was kinda messed up though.
8. Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band- It could be that I'm a sucker for small venues but I really liked these guys. They didn't care that only like 20 people were watching them. They played their hearts out. There was also a lot of banter towards the end between them and the audience members up front which was cool.
7. Crystal Castles- I was originally going to see Public Enemy but people around me talked me out of it. I heard PE put on a great set but so did these guys. The place was nuts, arguably more so than Girl Talk.
6. Alejandro Escovedo- When the show started the tent was about half full. After 3 songs it was packed. He just rocked out. I thought he lost steam a bit in the end though, or at least played too many slow songs. Also the violinist was amazing.
5. Phish (Sunday)- I contemplating leaving but I'm glad I didn't. I couldn't really see that well but the music and light show was a great way to end the festival. Also the three songs they did with Springsteen were probably the highlight of the festival and better any part of Bruce's set (again I wish he jammed out like he did with Phish)
4. Ted Leo and the Pharmacists- My brother said I had to see him and he was right. He put on a great show. He went on I think before the scheduled time and played for over an hour. A lot of energy and a great crowd.
3. Yeah Yeah Yeahs- I was really excited to see this band and Karen O fulfilled my expectations. She was insane. I was near the back and the crowd really wasn't that into it around me but by the time she got to Heads Will Roll the place was psyched.
2. Bruce Springsteen- A trademark live show. He probably won some people over (I know at Phish a lot of the Phish heads I was near who skipped him we're saying "oh man... we should have seen him"). He didn't really jam out like he did on Sunday though and at times I thought he was a bit rushed but you gotta give him credit for playing essentially 3 hours non-stop
1. Beastie Boys- Great energetic set. I like how they sorta even tried to jam a little. Short for a headliner but a lot of fun. They played a crowd that isn't accustomed the they're type of music necessarily and won them over.
1. NIN 2. Amadou & Mariam 3. Phoenix 4. Elvis Costello with guest spots by Allen Toussaint, Jim Lauderdale & Jenny Lewis 5. Aziz Ansari 6. Dirty Projectors 7. David Byrne 8. Passion Pit 9. Katzenjammer 10. AA Bondy
Phoenix was so so so so good. They exceeded every expectation I had for them. I got totally sucked into the tunes during 1901 and started dancing uncontrollably.
This was probably the single greatest hour of pure energy released that I witnessed all festival. Both the crowd and the band were completely in tune with each other from start to finish.

The Decemberists. everything about this show was perfect. Of Montreal. one of my favorites live. was a little disappointed with the crowd at first...but things picked up. Phish. friday night was an amazing mix of rocking out that moved to something really spiritual and set the tone for just taking in everything and all of the people i could. jimmy buffet. jimmy was my first concert ever when i was eight. big personal family connection. called my mom during a pirate looks at forty and cried so much. girltalk. insane. bon iver/grizzly bear. both really beautiful. both i was really tired though. animal collective. they really needed a tent for their sound. seeing them up close indoors was a much better experience...and i wish they would have taken more risk and played some older stuff. but i love them anyway. allen toussaint. saw him on a whim and stayed about halfway through before bon iver. loved it. andrew bird. so talented

Too hard to rank...
Phish & Phish II (probably enjoyed Sun a tad more) Zac Brown Band (is this Jam-Country?) Grace Potter & the Nocturnals (great all three times we saw her!) 1. David Byrne (Amazing. Seriously one of the best shows of my life) 2. Femi Kuti (I know alot of people were elsewhere, but this show was a freakin party.) 3. King Sunny Ade (Same as Femi Kuti and could not believe the crowd was so, so small.) 4. Portugal. The Man (They were so on fire. Truly an amazing show.) 5. The Mars Volta (It was not the best Volta show I'd seen, but I loved the interaction with the crowd and them trying new things with their show. ) 6. Dillinger Escape Plan (Holy farking shiat. What a show to start off sunday afternoon.) 7. TV on The Radio (Great show before Byrne) 8. Bela Fleck and Toumani Diabate (Great chill mid-day set. Was thrilled to see Diabate do what he does well) 9. Booker T and The DBTS (It is always exciting to see a legend and the show did not fail to impress) 10. Yeasayer/NIN/Band of Horses (Two really good shows to start off sunday and one to end it.)

-Public Enemy -- HOLY CRAP THEY MELTED MY FACE! -Wilco -- 9th time I've seen them and they never fail to make me happy. -Yeah Yeah Yeahs -- First time I saw them and LOVED the show. -Alejandro Escovedo -- gawddam that man can rock. He is AMAZING. -Phish (Sunday night) -- proved themselves to be as good as any band alive and tighter than ever. -Beastie Boys -- great fun even if they were screwing up left and right. totally choked Sabotage but they are so cool they still get a pass onto my list. -Robyn Hitchcok & Venus 3 -- surprised this tent was so empty. A little sleepy but such a great set and a RH is to die for. -Neko Case -- perfect late Sunday afternoon set and Neko could read the phone book and I would be entranced -Dillinger Escape Plan -- subtract the vocals and this band has serious skills. their instrumental stuff is fantastic. Great stage presence. -The Boss -- Even though his music does not grab me as much as the others on this list, he is a perfect front-man, that band is phenomenal, and Santa Claus alone would put him on my list.
Such an awesome 'Roo!!!!!!!!!
My wish for next year is simple. I want either an afternoon or late night set of The BellRays! They would be perfect for 'Roo!
But I've heard voices not in the head Out in the air they called ahead Through ripped out speakers Through thick and thin They found a shelter Under my skin -Evgeny Aleksandrovitch Nikolaev
I'm glad so many others agree. That was one of the tightest performances I've ever seen. Everything was absolutely perfect. Thank god they were in That Tent and not in Cafe Where.
1. Bruce (Legend, wish he would've played Jungleland/Lost in the Flood/ or Atlantic City, oh well, still awesome from the pit) 2. Phoenix (see explantation up above, if you missed them for Phish, you missed out on one of the best performance of the weekend) 3. Wilco (First time seeing them, one of my favorite bands, one of the best sets of the weekend. More people should have been in the pit with me, it had a bunch of room in it.) 4. Grizzly Bear (Another great tight set. Everything you hear on record comes through live only better, the band seemed to be having a great time being there with us in that godforsakenly hot tent) 5. Tv on the Radio (Once sound problems were fixed, the band played their heart out. I would've loved a bigger horn section though) 6. Dirty Projectors (Dave Longstreth is one of the best talents in music right now, period. The new album is a grower, but this set wasn't. I loved it right away) 7. Band of Horses (Perfect afternoon chill set, it was great to finally see them live) 8. Girl Talk (Perfect party set, That tent was having a great time) 9. Bon Iver (Surpassed lofty expectations. It was great to see him pull out the electric. The horns were great along with the Yo La Tengo cover. Everything in the set was great) 10. Animal Collective (I absolutely love this band and rushed over to their set after D.P. I was worried that the sound problems would continue the whole set, but after My Girls, which sounded awful, they got their shit together. Would have been in the top five had it been close to the last time I saw them)
Footnote: I did not catch any full saturday night sets due to a swollen ankle the size of a small grapefruit, apparently an allergic reaction to the pesticides bonnaroo used on the grass. So NIN surely would have been near the top if I could have supported my own weight at that point. What I heard laying on the grass near the concessions blew me away. Hopefully Trent comes back at some point, he will be sorely missed otherwise.

1.) NIN 2.) Yeah Yeah Yeah's 3.) David Byrne 4.) MGMT 5.) Gov't Mule 6.) Rodrigo y Gabrillia 7.) TV on the Radio 8.) The Mars Volta 9.) The Dirty Projectors 10.) Passion Pit
Honorable Mention: Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band(only heard it from my tent)
1) Beastie Boys 2) Ben Harper 3) Mars Volta (great performance/setlist) 4) Alejandro Escovedo (he was on fire) 5) Galactic 6) Al Green 7) High on Fire * 8) Elvis Costello 9) Booker T & DBTs 10) Snoop Dogg (except for Drop it Like It's Hot and Sexual Eruption) **
* I ran into Matt Pike (singer/guitarist) at the airport. I went out for a smoke and just as I was lighting it, my brother noticed he was walking down the sidewalk in our direction. We told him he put on a great show and kind of expected him to just say thanks and move on, but he stopped, genuinely thanked us, lit up a smoke and spent about 20 minutes just shooting the breeze with us. He is an inredibly nice guy, it was like talking to someone I had known for years. He seemed to really dig the festival. So yeah, they make the list for being so kick ass on and off the stage.
** Snoop would be higher if he didn't do that damn East Side vs West Side and the Na-Na-Na-Na Snoop Dogg crap for so long. He could have played Gz and Hustlas instead. But then again, I expected a bunch of hype and self promotion from Snoop-a-loop. If anyting, that's what kinda makes Snoop who he is. Perhaps I'm just disappointed that I didn't get to hear Gz and Hustlas. Lodi Dodi was pretty badass, as was Ain't Nothing But a G Thang.

1. NIN ( my new favorite show ever; my face melts everytime I think of it. ) 2. moe. ( thought I would only catch an hour or so after NIN, I was so happy to catch nearly 3 hours. Thank you moe. and grace ) 3. Public Enemy ( Flava Flav is the Ozzy of rap, a train wreck off stage and on reality shows, but absolutely awesome live ) 4. Booker T and the DBTs ( Front row! ) 5. Beastie Boys ( One of my all-time favorite bands and the Pens won the Stanley Cup during the show. I was getting the crowd hyped w/ hockey updates damn that was fun ) 6. Midnite ( Thursday night rain party with a great reggae band, very spiritual expierence ) 7. Snoop ( I didn't have a great spot, but Snoop has been a constant on my playlist since 93 ) 8. Pretty Lights ( Loved their set, I was far back in the trees just watching the party, lots of fun ) 9. Zach Deputy ( Damn fine Music on Shakedown, just walking by and was pulled to this great sound. Really, Really underated on my list ) 10. Gov't Mule ( The sound was def off, but Warren and friends still made it work. I was stoked for the Creep cover and Soulshine w/ Citizen Cope )
* All rankings excluding NIN and moe. subject to change
"A man's at odds to know his mind cause his mind is aught he has to know it with. He can know his heart, but he dont want to. Rightly so. Best not to look in there." -Cormac McCarthy
1) phish on sunday: had never seen phish before, had never listened to their music. became an instant fan. I can't believe how good they were. Unreal. The Bruce set was incredible but the second set was even better... tweezer reprise = face melt. The pit view was phenomenal 2) phish on friday: three words.... highway to hell 3) NiN: Best NiN show I've seen. Amazing set list and incredible performance. Reptile was outrageously awesome, as was the echoplex encore.... 4) wilco: best wilco show I've ever seen. 5th row right in front of tweedy. unbelievable guitar duel at the end
(**steep drop off***)
5) bon iver: the band has some work to do in terms of tightening up their tuning. it's great that they are perfectionists but a bit more flow would be great. This doesn't take away from the music---amazing stuff. 6) grace potter: what a woman, and what a backing band. she is a star and puts on an incredible live show 7) bruce: great, as expected. the new stuff was great. I enjoyed him better with Phish rather than the E-street band, though 8) TVOTR: the sound was a bit off but they certainly brought the energy. great setlist 9) Yeah Yeah Yeahs: again, sound a bit off and some technical problems (they could flow a bit better), but the setlist was great. Karen O's voice was underwhelming after coming from Grace potter, though! 10) the decemberists: didn't catch their full set but what I saw was great
honorable mentions: pretty lights, russian circles, erykah badu, hockey (best thurs. band that I saw)
