If "Born To Run", "Thunder Road", "The Rising" "Badlands", "The Promised Land", "Dancing In The Dark", "The River", "Glory Days", "Rosalita", and "10th Ave Freeze Out" aren't hits then I don't know what songs Springsteen could have played that you might have known.
Great post Bob.As for the OP's point about "hardcore fans" I'm pretty sure I qualify.I got in line at 7:30 am,was only #6,and I can guarantee you that was not a setlist geared towards hardcore fans.
In fact it was exactly the opposite and aimed,on purpose,at casual and non fans. But you did get Rosie at your first, and I assume last,Bruce show.So that's something... ;D
Rosalita is my favorite song ever and I've seen Bruce play it both times I've seen him. I must be lucky!

Beastie Boys disappointed me a little because I don't think you can go out on a butchered sabotage. But I was impressed that they played instruments as well as they did. Very talented.
TVOTR was only disappointing because of the loud bass like people have mentioned earlier. I was up front for them but I don't think that should have mattered because I was up front for YYY right before them and the sound quality was great IMO.

For the 4 songs I was at Phish on Friday, I thought they were stellar. I wasn't digging it at all last night though.
I stayed at Animal Collective briefly, and couldn't get into it at all. I also wasn't feeling The Mars Volta, but that's a very biased opinion, I'm not big on them anyway...just too noisy for me.
Phish was the most disappointing just because they didn't do anything special or play long. They went in, played their three hour set, and went out. That was good, but I expected them to pull out something special, or at least play a marathon set with several guests thrown in there. Warren Haynes was there and didn't play with them.... Moe. put them to shame imo. That said, it was awesome finally seeing Phish, i just expected more than their usual from them.
i was disappointed with the friday set mainly because it was only one set that barely made the 3 hour set time. i was expecting to be there till much later so i ended up wondering around the dj tents aimlessly and a little disappointed. i thought sunday's show was stellar and moe. was my favorite set of the weekend.
Beastie Boys - Just didn't do anything at all for me. The screen kept messing up. A lot of the people around us and trying to get through were especially obnoxious. It was overcrowded. Maybe not entirely their fault, but I felt even musically that I wasn't getting into their performance.
uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.... i dont think you have a clue.

mgmt was so weak, left and came back only to be disappointed again, moe. was kick ass, but i was way too exhausted to stick around for their whole set. tv on the radio was kinda blah, but thats what i expected.

The only show I walked out of the whole weekend was Animal Collective. After a song and a half I strolled past the Sonic Stage and caught a few Patterson Hood songs and then went back to camp.
Looks like I didn't miss too much by sleeping through MGMT. They were good last year though...

I only saw the first half of their show, but i though the beasties were completely lackluster, if not outright bad. I coul not get into it at all, I thought it should have been louder (shouldn't all music?), and generally, it didnt do anything for me.
I walked over to david byrne halfway through, and it was no comparison. There is no way any of BBs songs could have matched any of the Talking Heads songs they played. I thought Byrne was awesome.
I also thought phish was awesome, though i have never seen them before, so i suppose its hard for me to say. sweet dance party/glowstick war though.

i must have gotten a good spot for TVOTR cuz i could hear the vocals great, and although animal collective is one of my favorite bands, they really bombed at broo. too many new songs, not enough energy, all the songs just felt like they were missing layers, would have been better at night with maybe a real drummer. although i didnt get to enjoy any of mgmt, i chock that up to mostly the fact that nin was so loud i was almost at the tent and could still hear them.

I went from Yeasayer to Harper to MGMT at their start so I wasn't expecting to be anywhere near but the crowd was back to the MLB stuff. The Xbox Arcade's bass from whatever was going in there was overpowering MGMT's show. Talk about ridiculous. That was what was most disappointing for me even though I was good with going back to Harper. Also AC's set wasn't bad but was disappointing because of my expectations. TVOTR's vocals and bass were muddled but that wasn't their fault. But nothing I saw from any of the bands I went to was bad. Just surrounding circumstances I pointed out above were disappointing.

I know SweetMelissa will crucify me for this, but the only show that I left early was Gov't Mule. The sound was awful and I hate the Which Stage. I'll give them another chance because I love Warren.
A Thieve's Parade 2/24 Conspirator 2/26 Kevin Smith 3/11 Keller 3/17 Papadosio 3/18 JJ Grey 3/25 Bela Fleck/Edgar Meyer 3/26 Toubab Krewe 3/27 O'Death 4/11 Budos Band 4/22 EOTO 4/28 Summer Camp 5/6-29 All Good
Animal collective should have been a night set, maybe even in a tent. But the knux left a horrible taste in my mouth. DJ Quickiemart was a jackass on stage with them. They went on 15 minutes late and finished after playing for 32 minutes. I was looking forward to the set and felt kanyed when i left.
Have to agree with most of you about Animal Collective, they just do not translate well live at all. Plus I thought all the build up they did inbetween songs was pretentious and pointless. It could have been cool if the build up actually went somewhere and transitioned into the songs but it just seemed like they would do random stuff and then go into a song, I just wasnt feeling it I guess.
Other then that I wasnt really dissapointed by anyone, cant believe people were dissapointed by Bruce and Phish those 3 shows were fantastic.
uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.... i dont think you have a clue.
I had about 5 groups of friends there and ALL of them thought the Beasties were anywhere from disappointing to really bad. There are several others here who felt the same way.. So I think I do.

Mule's sound was horrrrrrrible. I left early too. A shame cus their set list looks pretty nasty. All bass drum and vocals, guitar was way too low. Everything muddy. What are these sound guys thinking?

The disappointing thing with AC is that they ARE a great live band.
It's easy to chalk up their flop to the sun being out, but a bad set is a bad set. Meandering interludes are one thing, but the way they stretched some of their more sparse songs -- and never really brought them anywhere -- is what doomed the set.
Anyone who likes their CDs should give them another shot live. Be warned though: they're a band that 'moves on,' so don't expect a whole bunch from Sung Tongs, Feels, etc.

I loved Animal Collective's set. I was with Molly at the time, but I really don't attribute my enjoyment of the show solely to Molly. I was there with one sober friend (the rest couldn't take the heat prior to the show) and he was having just as much fun as I was.
I was talking with my neighbor and she and I agreed that their extended interludes and "jamming" were our favorite parts of the show, but at the same time we could see how other people found that off-putting.
I enjoyed the 25 minutes of Animal Collective I stayed for, but then I was laying out in the field not watching the stage. I was pretty much expecting them to get the most bitched about largely because their live show has next to nothing in common with their studio recordings.
I didn't really see anything that disappointed me. The first set of comedians in the Comedy Sweet Thursday were pretty terrible across the board, and Delta Spirit wasn't really my thing, but I didn't have high expectations at either.
Both Phish and Sringsteen were amazing, I really don't understand how any music fan could not have liked either of these. I wasn't a Phish fan going in but, that Friday night set won me over in a big way.
Springsteen: was zzzzzzz. When you play festivals there 's a good chance that most of the crowd may not be your hardcore fans; so you need to play your hits. The only song I recognized was Santa Claus Is Coming To Town.
Animal Collective: between their boring set & the heat I almost cried.
It was said above but if you didn't recognize any of those songs you probably have never listened to actual rock in your life.
IMO though he should have mixed up his set from his typical setlist but he did play basically all his hits besides BITUSA.

I've seen Mule many times and their Roo set was pretty lackluster. We walked out as well. There was very little fire.
Add me to the growing list of folks disappointed with Animal Collective. They were going through the motions out there.

I couldn't get into Cage The Elephant watched about half the set and bailed. I also tried giving Phish a chance Sunday night. I listened to 3 songs and realised it just wasn't for me. Walked back to camp packed up and bailed. Different strokes for different folks I suppose.

As someone who knew next to nothing about Springsteen, other than his fantastic reputation, I think his set was filled with the majority of his hits. I recognized a lot of songs and enjoyed those that I didn't. He was great. Animal Collective was very good I just think that the break down and build up between the songs was not that creative and I had heard so much about how great their improvisation was.

There wasn't a single set I didn't like all weekend. There were some where I wasn't really expecting too much and didn't get too much out of (i.e. Erick Baker and A.A. Bondy) but they're young artists who play music I'm not that into.
I'd have to say the most disappointing set for me was Booker T and the DBTs. I actually sorta enjoyed the set but I had heard such great things about the DBTs and Booker T is such a legend I was hoping it would be more than it ended up being.
Nine Inch Nails. I was pretty bored, to be honest. I really like NIN and I found them to be mediocre. I bailed and went to MGMT and had my face melted.

NIN's show was definitely catered more towards the hardcore fan, as there was a ton of rarer songs on the setlist that come from deluxe cd's, halo releases, imports, and just covers he plays.

I gotta go with Band of Horses. The conlfict with Snoop Dogg was bad enough for me. I knew Snoop would put on a hell of a show, but I like Band of Horses music more so I left Snoop early for the last hour of BoH. They didn't keep the show going hardly at all, and just lacked energy. I kept wishing I'd stayed at Snoop.
