these were my first 2 phish shows, i started listening to phish off and on when i was about 12 or 13, im 22 now, but i got into them because of my brother being such a phish phan and him going to see them places and telling me how bad ass there live show is..i really was digging them friday night but left early to go see pretty lights and girl talk, expecting phish to still be playing around 3 or 4 in the morning...i was kinda let down they were already done playing by 3 30! then sunday came around and i drank all morning and night and ended up passing out from exhaustion by the middle back mist tent and missed the show...so all in all i think phish is a very impressive band, but i wish i could've seen them in there earlier days!
I was pleasantly surprised with their Sunday show, especially seeing as how I hadn't been impressed by any of the live recordings or videos I'd seen. Didn't turn me into a fan, but I did enjoy the show. Faves were Farmhouse and Suzie Greenberg

Deer Creek-> Alpine x2 was magical. I thought my love for phish had already reached an apex but it just keeps growing. This must be what Baptists feel for Jesus. Phish jams for my sins.
So Friday was a very interesting night for me at Bonnaroo this year. Other than seeing Phish stickers on cars for the past however many years, I haven't really heard of them. Hell, I didn't even hear my first Phish song until their show this year. Honestly, the only reason I went to their Friday show was so I didn't have to walk back to my tent between Beastie Boys and Girl Talk. Man, WTF have I been missing!!! I went to the show with an open, well ok fairly negative, mind on what to expect. Needless to say am am getting goosebumps just thinking about their show and have a grin ear to ear as I am typing this. It is really hard to pick out what I would call my favorite show of my Bonnaroo experiences, but wow, the Friday show for me was absolutely incredible and has changed my outlook on music.

With Phish's wide range of musical styles, complex compositions, great stage presence, and killer light shows, I do find it harder to appreciate other shows now. "Ok that was good, but..."

Good problem to have though!
Yeah I went to the moe show, and just thought it was unfair to have to be another jamband at the same festival as Phish.

i totally agree with you...and this was the first time ive ever seen phish...they aren't comparable to any other jam band ive seen.
moe. is still awesome, i was at that show sat. night--but really, to me, you can't even compare the two. phish did something for me so totally different than really any band has.
my first two phish concerts were such joyous experiences...i cant really describe it any other way. everyone is dancing or singing or throwing glowsticks, definitely one of the most badass things i have ever been a part of. looking forward to seeing them again soon--i have been listening to the SBDs for Bonnaroo basically nonstop...

Im glad so many people have been swept away by Phish. Its been stated before but there are tons of decent seats for sale online that are still reasonable for the second leg. Get to as many shows as you can. I can tell you this from experience, seeing a show is great but seeing a bunch of shows in a row is absolutely life affirming. I wish I could do the Oct fest but everythings pointing to Cali. Thats just not economically pheasable for me but Im still gonna hit Chicago in August and hopefully NYE in Miami!!!

^^Agreed. I've seen Phish 4 times now - Hampton (Sunday), Knoxville, and both Roo shows. It blows my mind how different each of those shows were. If I didn't know better I would've thought I saw four different bands each time. But that's just silly... there aren't 4 bands in the world that could bring the heat like that!
At first I don't think I quite understood it when I was walking away from their shows on the farm. I mean, I understood Phish and their music... but what I didn't understand was the concept behind a Phish tour. Hampton was spectacular and I thought I had a grasp on what to expect the next time I saw them. Then came Knoxville, which I still think might be the greatest show I've ever seen. Then the Roo shows, both were good but at the time after the show I was left feeling a bit "meh" because I kept trying to compare them to Knoxville. After Friday's show, someone asked me how I'd rate it as a Phish show and in my bitter state of mind I just blurted out "6/10" I was way off. It wasn't necessarily worse than Knoxville. It was just a different show. It was a whole different kind of heat. It's something I didn't quite realize until I had been home for a week or so and was listening to the recordings.
I've even warmed up to the thought of Bruce coming out with them on Sunday, and admittedly I have put the tracks back in my itunes after I had removed them because I hated them. I can probably thank Mojo for that one, because of his explanation of the message he felt Phish was trying to deliver by having him out there and the song choice (which at the time I thought except for Mustang Sally the song choice was horrible). I still skip the tracks when I listen to the show most of the time, especially Bobby Jean, but I do get it and can appreciate it a bit more now.
Can't wait til I can hopefully rage Merriweather. I gotta see what the funds are like after I get back from AllGood, but it's a top priority no doubt.

Speaking of getting tickets, does anyone have any experience with officialticketsdirect.com? I'm looking to get some tickets to the Chicago show in August and there are some good deals on that website but I've never heard of it. I'm a little weary of purchasing tickets from there. Any info on the site would be nice or a better place to get tickets would be appreciated.
Lot of rip offs these days. I don't know that site, but at this point not knowing = not trusting, for me. Way too many bunk tickets this tour from what I hear.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking but I'm hoping someone here has used the site and had a favorable outcome.
my friends and I have had great luck with stubhub so far. Ive used it for concerts and sporting events and Ive never been burnt. Not that it cant happen. A friend of mine was saying she saw a leaked tour schedule for the fall/winter online somewhere but I cant seem to find it. She claimed it had another Chicago show @ UIC Pavilion among other shows close to me. If anybody has a link, I'd really appreciate it.
strummtheguitar. Dude... So glad to hear someone whos has gotten wrapped up in Phish for all the right reasons. Not to sound cliche' but from your post... you "get it". Not just that but you got to experience a trio of shows. Awesome. Absolutely awesome. Ive been on cloud nine since the Roo > Deer Creek> Alpine run and just coming in here and reading your post has me all the more excited for Chicago, Fall/Winter, and (fingers crossed) New Years in Miami.
