Okay, officially I don't think RHCP will be there this year, but more likely in 2011 when they try to pull out the stops. This year, I'm getting a feeling it's going to be like the 2004-2005 years.
Friday Pre: Trey Anastasio Band HL: Dave Matthews Band LN: The Flaming Lips
Saturday: Pre: Arcade Fire HL: The Who LN: The String Cheese Incident
Sunday: Pre: Allman Brothers Band HL: Furthur
I know all bets are off for the Sunday Jam headliner slot, but...is it a general consensus that Furthur would headline? I know it's members of The Dead, but it just doesn't sound right to me. Maybe it's just me.
And wow, you're like a walking, talking infomercial to turn people away from Pearl Jam and Ohio State, aren't you? Before you started posting here I quite liked Pearl Jam and was indifferent towards OSU, now I find myself wishing that Eddie Vedder falls down a mine shaft or that Columbus is infested with locusts
Classic Rock is hard to define, after all Phish just turned 25 recently does that make it classic? SCI certainly can hold down a Sunday closer, they have headlined before, and it would not surprise me. Daft Punk would more than likely be LN Which, maybe on the What with Which closed down though.

Classic rock, bands from the 60's and 70's. I don't group U2 and Phish into this category. But I would put Springsteen into the classic rock bucket.

I keep on going back and forth on a bunch of scenarios. So I have created a handful of speculatory questions
My opinions on this...
Who thinks SCI can close out Sunday? Or are they destined to be LN Which?
I think too many people would leave on Sunday without another option. I know they are popular, but I hardly know anyone outside of this board who's knows them or is into them. I've seen SCI a few times and personally don't get the attraction, but a latenight slot would make a ton of peeps happy...
Would they go with 2 classic rock headliners?
Assuming you mean a huge band that formed 25 years ago or longer, probably only if one of them was the Dead or the Allmans on Sunday night
Daft Punk: Friday headliner or LN What?
Latenight What or Duel Headliner
Anyway they would pull off Flaming Lips performing Darkside > Roger Waters performing The Wall?
Pink Floyd is my #1 Band of all time and the Lips are firmly in my all time top 5 (they used to be #3 until MMJ came along...) but even I think this would be Floyd overkill... though Bonnaroo knows best, so if they did this I would trust in them 100%
I was expecting total crap when I caught part of their set at Coachella 07, but I was surprised that it sounded pretty good. Keidis seemed to be on that night. I could have just been expecting complete crap since I have always heard they sucked live, but I enjoyed it.
I was at that show as well, and thought they put on a great show. I had seen them a few years previous and it wasn't that great. I think if they played Roo they'd probably pull out all the stops to make it a great show.

^^I'm actually not impressed. He doesn't do the vocals any justice. I'd like to see them do it in it's entirety on NYE but can't make it that far. I sincerely hope someone tapes it.

What about John Mayer jamming out as a co-headliner? He's done Rothbury in the past 2 years back and could even do a John Mayer Trio set. The fact that he just released another album that features him absolutely KILLING numerous solos on it, means that he could go to Bonnaroo, jam, and showcase himself as a musician and not just a pop artist. He would gain respect in every way if he played Roo '10. What do you guys think?

yes please
anyone who has seen John Mayer live (especially with JMT) knows that he is a good fit for bonnaroo. I agree that he would be an afternoon set in a raconteurs slot though and I don't think he would have any objection to that either.

^^THIS! I hated John Mayer after he came out with Room for Squares. Since he has shifted to blues music, his forte anyway, the man has exploded musically. I would love to see this; imagine the guest artists. I don't, however, think that he would be headliner. I could see him late afternoon on the Which Stage though...

I'm thinking John Mayer is going to take wilco's spot this year. I saw John Mayer last year and he is truly an amazing guitar player. Also I feel like the more music John Mayer makes it gets better and better. His first stuff sucked but his newest album is a great direction for him.
it would be nice for people to hear the music that does not get radio play. i would never have guessed how talented and entertaining he is. i think a lot of people would be pleasantly shocked if he rooed

His new album does suck. More than Room of Squares.
Continuum on the other hand, really is a great record. No denying it. Steve Jordan and Pino Palladino rythym section, great songs, good guitar tone. But the new one is just typical top 40 fare, and taylor swift? give me a break.
-When I Hear My Name -Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground -Blue Orchid -Passive Manipulation -Red Rain -Death Letter -My Doorbell -Hotel Yorba -Same Boy You've Always Known -Lovesick -Little Ghost -We're Going to Be Friends -The Hardest Button to Button -Black Math -The Nurse -I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself
Encore: -Ball and Biscuit -Seven Nation Army -Screwdriver

I am only familiar with his radio singles, which I am not very fond of, but if John Mayer came to the farm, I would more than likely check out his set, unless there was a conflict with artist more likely to satisfy my musical palate. There is no denying that the man is a talented musician.
John Mayer is alright. Extremely overrated by the public but not give enough credit by people like us, in my opinion. He's either hit or miss - either his songs are really good or just poppy shit. I think he is incredibly talented, but typically falls short of showing that talent for the sake of being on the radio (I still can't believe the same person released 'Try!'a good fit. He played Rothbury in 2008 and played the equivalent of this and 'Room For Squares').
If he did play, a Which Stage closer would be position (6 or 7PM on Ranch Arena - the 2nd stage). I watched most of his set and it was pretty good - he skipped his poppy shit for a set of blues songs that he jammed out; I really enjoyed it. He did a nice cover of 'Crossroads' and sitting watching a nice blues player right before sunset was a great feeling.
There are other artists I'd rather see in that position, but a 7-8:30 slot on Which would be pretty nice. Not worthy of a headline position though, in my opinion.

John Mayer is an amazing guitarist. He would be perfect at Bonnaroo and I will be upset if he's there this year since I'll miss it.
People who only knows the pop songs on the radio are missing out on a talented musician who looks up to some of the greats (Hendrix, Clapton) and has worked with many talented people. His opening acts have included Franti and Spearhead and Brett Dennen - two favored Roo artists.
Sorta like Jack White - he made songs that hit big on the radio in order to keep his career going so he can make amazing music.
take the time to watch these two videos below and you'll fall in love with his personality. he's very funny and makes fun of himself plenty. highlights include: dressing in a bear costume and annoying the fans in the parking lot of one of his shows. he makes fun of the guy they are going to see (even tho it's him in the costume). There's also a great section where he hosts a "focus group" with a handful of teenage girls and makes fun of himself and is really funny.
