I told the boys not to spill sweet drinks or leave food wrappers out in the open. Of course they didn't listen. Little bugger ants were soon satisfying their sweet tooth. Only bugs I *saw* in Jeff Spicoli, though I did hear a mosquito or two at night. We slept under an open canopy, so bugs didn't distinguish our camp from the open fields. On packing to leave, our neighbors got excited about some large flying insect with a stinger on their tent (they all sounded amazed by its size and appearance). I ran to look at it, but it had skedaddled by the time I got there.

We didn't have any ants in our tent but all of our neighbors did. My friend put dryer sheets all around the tent to keep bugs away...we laughed at her but it actually worked! No spiders either, thank God! I would have freaked out!

We had a major ant infestation. Thankfully I had some bug repellent which actually killed the ones in the tent. Thankfully, I didn't see any spiders ... what I don't know can't hurt me

I actually slept by the art of such and such the first night bc after being completely convinced my tent was infested by spiders I couldnt mangle up the balls to even walk near my tent again that night. The next morning I realized they were only ants.

We had a pretty fair amount of ants this year - they got in our garbage bag and on top of the cooler, but we were pretty good about keeping our tent closed and our food in the trunk of the car, so we avoided any major infestation.
Saw a few spiders, but nothing too freaky. My boyfriend saved me from those
However, on the last day, our neighbor lifted up his tent footprint to discover a FUCKING SNAKE underneath it. We all just kinda screamed and stared at it till it finally slithered away under his car. I kept a 10 foot radius from his car after that I'm southern, and I know which snakes can and can't kill you (and this was probably just a garden snake) but I wasn't taking ANY chances!
i saw a real spotted ladybug. never saw one before. saw a fuzzy flying bug near my flips during wailing souls, and asked what it was. a bumblebee! they're actually fuzzy! spiders were tiny and scared of people. i saw ants and even acidentally left food out sometimes and they didn't immediately swarm and threaten to carry us all off! even saw some teeny little green grasshoppers. awww!
it was like a discovery channel cute bug vacation for me.
in florida, we have freaky buzzing beetles, palmettos the length of your thumb, jumping wolf spiders, wasps and angry bees out for blood, and fire ants that swarm on every scrap of food or human, and bite simultaneoulsy with a venom that in large enough amounts requires hospitalization. did i mention poisonous snakes? or poisonous spiders (black widow, brown recluse)? oh, and gators. angry, people-eating gators.
okay, the gators are pretty lazy. but the rest of for real.
i'll take tennessee bugs ANY DAY.
Indeed this is true the bugs in FL suck one of many things I hate about this state. At camp han solo we had lots and lots of ants. My neighbors tent was infiltrated massively one morning. My car still has some live ones , I think, in it. Main thing is to keep the site clean of food stuff (or more so keep things closed in tupperware) and sugary, syrupy things like Margaritas ;D
I don't care what you say about me, just spell my name right---P.T. Barnum "As I was walking up the stairs I met a man who wasn't there He wasn't there again today I wish to God he'd go away."

I didnt notice the ants until about Saturday night when I went to take a seat in my chair and it was swarming with those little buggers. Couple swipes later and didnt notice them the rest of the trip, but I wasn't looking for them either..
However, on the last day, our neighbor lifted up his tent footprint to discover a smurfing SNAKE underneath it.
Fuck! That's scary.
We had a bunch of ants but I thought it was just us as one of our crew had 3 gallons of hunch punch (hope no one here drank the deadly purple one) and a neighbor had apple pie shots. Apparently there was also a spider crawling near my foot as I napped under the shade canopy but I didn't see it, just heard the announcement and someone brush it away.

I'm from the South and have never seen a snake in the wild. The only snakes I have seen were at zoos or amusement parks. I think I must have a naturally built in snake repellent because I have spent a lot of time out in the country and just outdoors in general.
I never saw a single insect of any kind at Roo. It was actually very strange. I never got bit by a mosquito, never saw any ants, yellow jackets, bees, or spiders. I even hung out next to a trash area for a while (waiting for my Roo-mate) and never saw so much as a single fly. Not what I expected at all.
I saw very few insects or animals of any kind. Only heard a bird singing once, which was bizarre. I think we had a handful of tiny black ants at our site in tent-only but nothing bad.
