All the talk of organ donation and such in Enemy's ID thread made me curious.
I'm definitely pro-organ donation, but I also have considered donating my body to the "Body Farm" at UTKnoxville. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Body_Farm). Either way, I think my basic belief is that, I'm not using it anymore, and there's no reason why it shouldn't be put to some good use.
When my dad died, all of his organs were donated except for his pancreas (diabetes, can you donate a pancreas anyway?) and his eyes (diabetic cataracts). It was really helpful to know that his dying did some good.
If I don't go to the Body Farm, then I either want to be cremated or buried in a green burial. I really like the idea of the green burials, but I think they are still really expensive, and I don't want to cost my family any more money than I have to. I really don't understand the whole culture of spending thousands of dollars to bury a person.

Provided I don't die somewhere deep in outer space or am eaten by hungry coyotes (or God forbid, am eaten by hungry space coyotes), I would bequeath all my organs to those that need it, except for my lungs and my liver, as those would probably do more harm than good. As for my body, I'd like to be buried down at the ol' family plot in Jamaica. If I can't do that, then I guess I'd be down to have my body cremated and my head hollowed out and made into a piece.

I'm definitely pro-organ donation. After my organs are donated, it's up to my family. Throw my body in a pine box for all I care. But no matter what, there should be a big party, none of this crying at the funeral home business.
My sis and I had a conversation a few months ago about all of this when our great-uncle died. We told each other what we wanted to happen with our bodies when we pass away. It seemed to us that people make such a fuss about preserving the body, but it's just a body, that person is no longer dwelling in it.
Sorta off-topic, but when Jerry Orbach (of Law and Order fame) passed away, he had his eyes donated. Apparently, he had 20/20 vision up until his death, and they gave his eyes to someone that was legally blind. How cool would it be to say that you had Jerry Orbach's eyes???

After the organ donation and removal of all the useful bits right?
I am Organ donation, then cremation please. I will leave my friends to think of something suitable to do with the ashes. Maybe take them to the inforoo brunch every year, and put a beer, and a bowl in front of them.
Organ donation and then I really don't care much - more then likely - cremation just because I figure we are runningout of room to bury people and it's just gonna get worse - plus the whole expense of a burial is ridiculous. Maybe Boz can put part of me on the farm, part of me in NOLA and various other places that we have had great memories
I thought this was sweet...my grandfather was buried holding my grandmothers ashes. That or mix our ashes together and spread on the Champ de Mars.
As for organ donation I have a part of me that is scared that they will allow me to die so they can harvest my organs...I know, I know before you tell me that I'm stupid for thinking that I already know I am being paranoid, but I can't help it. My wife is an organ donor and she calls me crazy for thinking that but I just can't help shaking that idea. As long as hospitals are there for profit I can’t or won’t shake it.

Cremation supposedly costs as much as a regular funeral/burial. I have no idea why. Personally, I want as many organs donated as possible, then burn my ass. You can leave the ashes in the incinerator for all I care. My body is purely a vessel. I'll have no use for it once I die.
And for the last poster who is worried about donating organs. Don't. 1. The hospital has to have your family's permission prior. 2. You have to be alive (on life support) to donate. It is a long surgical procedure. 3. You have to be brain dead. Do you honestly think that a neurologist is going to risk his/her medical license and fake a negative EEG so that your organs can be donated? If so, you've been watching too many movies.

Like I said completly illogical, I know, but it's one of those things I can not shake...like the concept of a higher power, or the fact I think the Seahawks will win the superbowl

I said this in the other thread, but I will say it again. I think the only way to ethically do it, is to start a national registry, if you are not a donor for religious or personal reasons, then you do not get a organ if you opt out. Then if everyone was a donor there would be no supply issues, and you would not have to worry about not getting treatment if you are on your way to the hospital.

i thought there was going to be a Nip/Tuck situation going on in this thread from reading the title..
I want to donate my organs but I haven't really decided what comes after that. I'm leaning towards cremation, maybe have them tossed off the waterfall at Mulberry Mountain. yeah that sounds good.
I want to donate...I don't care what it is, whatever can still be used take it out. My mom works for gift of hope, and the lists of people who need organs are so long, and some of those people are on the list for very long times. Like, people who need a kidney are sometimes on the list for up to 5 years. Some times donating your kidneys is really like donating life. I haven't decided what I want to be done with my body yet. But I do know I don't want any red roses, I don't want anyone dressed in black, and I don't want this dragged on two day thing....it's depressing enough that someone died, why make it worse?

^Instead of embalming you and putting you in a big wood and metal box that will take up space forever and ever, they don't put any chemicals in you, and they put you in the ground either in a biodegradable box or blanket. Instead of a cemetary, they have conservation areas, so the area is kept natural, and it's also a place where wildlife can flourish. I think it's also supposed to be better environmentally than cremation because it doesn't cause any air pollution.

Excellent idea, except for people with communicable diseases. Although I don't know how organ donation works all that well. What happens if you have Hepatitis? You obviously can't donate organs, but you cold still receive them. It wouldn't be fair to those who were infected.

Really? Hmm... so if I was already dead by the time someone/paramedics found me, I couldn't be an organ donor? That sucks because I was really hoping to die in a volcanic explosion.

Total organ donor. I'd like to be buried in my hometown cemetary next to my sister. It's in the middle of nowhere and that's where I feel at peace the most...in the middle of nowhere.
However, for the record, it doesn't really matter what happens to me after-the-fact. As long as I'm an organ donor I'm comfortable with whatever my children decide.

"Of course It's gonna be an explosion! What do you think, I'm not gonna explode?!"

registered organ donor, after that i could care less, although the idea of my body slowly decaying over time kinda creeps me out, but i'll be dead so i won't care.
Can you donate feet? I have really nice feet, I want someone else to enjoy them.
If anyone on this board has a foot fetish you're gonna start to get some really creepy PMs. Personally feet skeeve me out, but shoes I kind of have a thing for.
