One: Levon Helm is not playing late night from 12 to 4. More like an afternoon show. Two: No way George Clinton is not anything but a late night. Three: Your which stage Saturday is not going to happen. Kris and Willie are not early afternoon slots. Four: Thievery Corporation will be a late night before Portugal The Man on a Saturday. Five: Lupe Fiasco apparently is trying to retire and probably out after this Jay-Z thing, if I'm accurate Six: I don't think Down gets invited back so quickly. Superfly is not desperate for acts to come play. Seven: Where's Jay-Z? I'm betting he plays after being rumored as a third headliner this past year.
1. Midnight Ramble 2. Animal Collective 3. I agree 4. Yeaayer Late Night/Mars Volta didnt 5. Wasn't aware my bad. 6. Doesnt mean it wont happen 7. It'll be either Jay Z or RHCP. Both long overdue.

1. see here regarding Midnight Ramble: levonhelm.com/store/page4.html ...look at the time it starts 2. Clinton has 40 years in the biz...AC has 10 and the P-Funk All Stars are revered by many and they were THE funk band of the 70s-80s until hip-hop/rap came along 3. k 4. You may have something there, but thought TMV played great as a sunset band 5. I could be wrong though 6. True 7. And true.
Don't mean to be a douche replying like this, but it made more sense doing it this way.
Naw man, we're cool. I always respect your opinion.
Yeah the midnight ramble is a bit of a pipe dream, but it would be pretty cool to have an all night jam with levon in the other tent.
My intention with George Clinton was that i've always seen them as a good What Stage band and they seemed to be a good preheadliner to either RHCP or Jay Z. Sort of like The Roots spot in 07. But your probably right in that they would likely be a late night.

I would enjoy this lineup a lot except for the Friday headliner. Didn't enjoy RHCP at all when I saw them back in 2000. But I can overlook 1 headliner and enjoy the rest. Daft Punk and Muse late night is what I am hoping for as well. Two quick thoughts- I agree that George Clinton would be late night and I think Umphrey's is due back for a late night spot (haven't had one since 2006). Other than that, great work. It's always nice to have something to think about in September.

I'm confused as to why George Clinton and P Funk would be a late night. They seem to fit the Al Green spot from this past year. Perfect fun concert. Why would they be better at night, sure they're funky but it's not like they have a great light show or anything.
Airline I liked your mock, I might have to make one of my own to pass the time.

Check out this...go to the 3:30 mark (go from there) as this is probably what would happen @ Bonnaroo late night

I saw George Clinton with Parliament/Funkadelic play outdoors at Buffalo, New York for Thursday in the Square earlier this summer. George Clinton was great and there was really cool vibe going on. So many people were there you couldn't move from how tightly they were packed in. I could totally see George Clinton playing Bonnaroo. How awesome would if be if one of the nights was was a line up Outkast, Parliament/Funkadelic and then the Red Hot Chili Peppers for the late night. I think that would be one of the only ways they could top Phish.

Lupe wont be retiring anytime soon. His contract has i believe 4 albums remaing(from different sources Ive read). there were lots of rumors his next album would be LupE.N.D, and he has since dismissed it. The next album which will be Lasers is due out end of 2009 or early 2010.
He then will make 3 seperate albums(released close to each other) to complete the LupE.N.D collection, which is when he will then retire. It will be the first album E is for Lupe Everywhere, N Lupe Nowhere and D Lupe Down here. He originally talked of making LupE.N.D a 3 disc album then the contract situation came out.
What about The Cranberries? They are getting back together and will be in the US in Dec., but I'm not sure if they would work for Roo. They seem more fit for Lollapalooza or maybe Coachella. Anybody expect to see them in June?

The rambles normally have an opening act so Levon does not go on at 8 and from what I hear they often go to the early hours of the morning. I'm not saying 12-4 but there is no reason why we can't have a full ramble on the farm.

I'll give it a shot, my top 20:
The Rolling Stones Jay-Z The Dead KISS Red Hot Chili Peppers The Who Massive Attack Jack White Project The Flaming Lips Weezer Monsters Of Folk 12-16 Jam bands take your pick The Roots Vampire Weekend David Archuleta Adam Lambert
Minus the last two but feel free to add some females into the lineup
Haha, not gonna happen. We will get one Top Tier Jam Band (Think Dead, or SCI, Dead would headline, SCI wouldn't) then two late nights (Think Umphreys, STS9, or Les Claypool project) and that's it. If any others do play, it will be in the Troo Music Lounge, where they belong.

That's what Jay-Z and Chili Peppers are for. Personally I don't think The Who is big enough anymore to headline Bonnaroo. It's not like they've been making albums like The Boss or touring constantly on solo projects like The Dead. That being said they're still big enough (obviously) to play right before The Stones on Saturday night.
And I see another split between Jay-Z/RHCP on Friday and KISS takes NIN's spot Saturday late night. Massive Attack headlines latenight Friday and Dead headlines Sunday.
Overall I think a good festival. Bonnaroo could be trying to get the geezers before they die off or quit. That would make a lot of sense.
Yea to me they are still pretty boring. I really am not one to judge a persons taste in music, but U2 comes off as being a really corny band. I know if they were to play Bonnaroo the festival would lose out on ticket sales.Even though they still have a huge fan base and best selling tours, those same things would probably stop people from coming. No one wants to go see a band who is constantly touring ( and seems like not stopping soon) and who has also put out way to many albums past there prime. There is many other bands the Bonnaroo booking team could get that would be much better and fitting for the festival.
There are only so many bands that can headline a saturday night of bonnaroo. and like it or not U2 is one of them.
Paul McCartney Rolling Stones Stevie Wonder The Who Radiohead U2 Prince Bruce Springsteen Pearl Jam Neil Young Elton John/Billy Joel David Bowie (unrealistic) Led Zeppelin (unrealistic) Waters and Gilmour (unrealistic)

KISS gets alot of crap mostly because they've completely whored themselves relentlessly since the 70's. However, I'm about to see them live for the third time and that's no fluke. A live KISS show is a balls out circus. Fire, walls of speakers, flying band members, blood, explosions... all standard fare. I think they would do great in NIN's spot. Also I would like U2 to play in the silent disco so everyone doesn't have to be bored. *Whew* that was a smurf comment but I stand by it.
also need to add that one to my list of words that get smurfed out...
if they put a U2 headlinign act vs rattle and hum in the cinema tent, id go to the cinema tent.
that would be a huge mistake.
mind you, im just basing this on my own experience but... as a live band, as performers, they are excellent. keep in mind, i *never* listen to them in my car / ipod / radio. but i couldn't vote "yes" strongly enough regarding a roo headling spot.
