There's a lotta love in New York's tiniest apartment. Not that Zaarath and Christopher Prokop have much of a choice, nestled in their 175-square-foot "microstudio" with their two cats.
But The New York Post writes that for the Prokops, who bought the apartment three months ago for $150,000, it was a choice.
Their first apartment, in New Jersey, was 1,600 square feet, and with downsizing already on the brain they moved into a 900-square-foot apartment in Jersey City. When Manhattan became their next destination, they decided they could go even smaller. Zaarath Prokop tells the Post:
"When I saw it, all I could think of is, I can do something with this. This is perfect for us. We love it."
It certainly helps that the Prokops both are accountants with busy jobs that can require long hours at the office, and that they don't cook. Their only appliance besides a minifridge and hot plate is a cappuccino maker. And instead of storing pots and pans in the cabinets above their tiny kitchen, they keep their workout clothes there. Their work clothes, well, they stay at various dry cleaners they stop off at on their run to work, and each also has a stash at the office just in case.
And with plans to pay their home off in two years, they are happily spending their extra cash and living life to its fullest. More from Zaarath Prokop:
"We get to really experience life and enjoy ourselves," she said. "We eat out all the time. On the weekends, we're outside exploring the neighborhood. We're at Riverside Park all the time. We're not nesters. This apartment is perfect for someone active. If you want to stay home or entertain, this is just not the apartment for you."
The Post writes that the apartment was one of nine former maid's quarters in a prewar building, but it was the only one that wasn't doubled up to create a bigger apartment -- and bigger price tag, closer to a half-million dollars.
But it just wasn't feasible to convert the Prokops' space, so it went on the market as the smallest apartment, but still got plenty of interest. Warburg Realty real-estate broker Steven Goldschmidt, who showed the Prokops the property, said he got "a lot of calls" about the studio before quickly selling it to the Prokops.
Of course, most of the calls were for college students or a second residence for businesspeople, not for a couple and their two cats. Well, it's not for everyone, but Zaarath Prokop says it works for them:
"I have friends who say they could never live with their husbands in a place this small. It's a good thing we like each other enough to live there."
(really think about how big 175 sq ft actually is!) DAMN!

Zaarath and Christopher Prokop insist they're living the life in this micro studio, just 10 feet wide! The bathroom is even smaller, barely spanning three feet.

My master bath is almost as big as their apartment. My house was only 160k and it's 3 bedrooms 2.5 baths, garage, etc... I cannot imagine living in that tiny place. I eat out nearly every night as well but jesus. They must make some serious money to have that paid off in two years.

Edit: Their place is basically filled with booze and animals. Those cats would be using the toilet if I was living there.
I'm loving the fact that they have room for next to nothing but they felt it necessary to make room for a fully stocked liquor & wine rack. At least they have their priorities straight....my kind of folks too bad they don't have enough room to invite me over for cocktails.
