Add screens to the Which Stage! (2010 Edition)

If having screens meant that they were to be sponsored, then I would opt out of having the screens. I agree that they would be a sweet addition, but I think that if the corporate sponsorship starts, then it wouldn't stop. Bonnaroo would end up looking like the other festivals, like Lollapalooza. Lets keep Bonnaroo as Sponsor free as possible.

Yeah, you have that and the x box tent and things like that. I just wouldn't like to see it get to out of hand. I was more thinking along the lines of how every stage, tent etc. has a different sponsor at lollapalooza. It is just so commercialized.

soo true, I wooould rather have better sound then huge commercial posters on the farm, they do a good enough job keeping that to a minimum. so i have faith

Definitely need to preserve the current names of the stages/tents. However, I wouldn't mind an ad next to the screens whatsoever. Stages stay the same, add a corporate logo, who cares. Screens are a must.

As for the sound, I think they've been aware of this for a while. I think it has more to do with the physical location of the stage, which I don't see as being an easy fix. Both would be great, but the addition of screens is an EASY fix that should've happened years ago.

Anybody read the question and response about screens on the which stage in the Ashley Capps interview with CoS?



Even though they say it "may happen in the near future" to me it seems like he's against the idea. I understand them wanting a different experience on different stages but come on. Some people's "experience" of the which stage is standing in a crowd of people too far back to tell the band members on stage. I'd add screens on either side....just to the which stage. The tents are fine the way they are IMO.




Have you been to Bonnaroo? There are tons of sponsors. Do they make things worse? Not in any way that I could tell. If anything they made things better.

Some positives of having sponsors at the festival (aside from....ya know....the money they contribute to put on the festival):

Xbox tent - an air conditioned arcade where they have late night DJs, video games, contests, and hand out free frisbees to anyone who wanted one. I saw those frisbees being tossed around all weekend.

Garnier Fructis tent - free hair washing and styling, free samples of shampoo and conditioner, free sinks to do your own washing, air conditioned tent

budweiser troo music lounge - another small stage for great music. having the budweiser logo there does not affect the music. A few smaller, more intimate shows were watched here

Fuse.tv - not only do they provide documented footage (aired for free on t.v.) of many of the shows and activities....but they went out of their way with a unique air conditioned barn that featured contests, karaoke, bull riding, and the coolest thing of all - vinyl record spinart. all for free. oh and did I mention free phone charging station? Yea there's a line but it's a free phone charging station.....something not needed but provided anyway by a sponsor.

statefarm - scratch dj academy tent which is a cool thing that lets people try something new for the first time. plus they had awesome auctions for music equipment and other stuff

whole foods market - smaller than I anticipated but it's a welcome addition. they provide lots of food and stuff for very cheap, reasonable prices.

MLB - batting cage and other free demos

relix magazine - giving out lots of free stuff if you sign up for a cheap subscription....but even better - they provide everyone with the Bonnaroo Beacon each day with news from the night before, interviews for upcoming bands/artists playing the festival, and a schedule for that day.

butterfinger - they made the comedy tent much bigger and better and gave away free candy and ice cream all day long. I can't tell you how much I loved that free Ice Cream. I'd get one anytime I walked past the comedy tent.


It's weird how people just act like it's always sponsors = evil. Almost every one of these sponsors found a way to promote what they wanted in a way that was completely unobtrusive to festival-goers. Any of these sponsors could simply be ignored and it would have no affect on your experience there. I agree they shouldn't change the names of the stages from what, which, this, that, the other. That's one of the little quirks that makes bonnaroo great. I just find it odd how people talk about sponsors as if they interrupt the concerts in between songs for 30 second commercials.

Whole Foods Market was GREAT because of the DOLLAR POPSCICLES. Those were the best

And you know what? I danced my ass off in the XBox tent to Kraak and Smaak for 2(ish?) hours and I LOVED EVERY SECOND OF IT, corporate sponsorship be damned.

Bonnaroo is pure capitalism at its finest, and sponsors or not, it just gets greater every year =)

I find that it's difficult to see the which stage when there's a big band that draws a lot of people, not to mention the beer vendor that sits in the middle of the grounds in front of the stage and blocks peoples view. I think adding screens is a must to make that stage more enjoyable

^^If you have screens, that means you have to hire a company to do the camera work as well.....wait they're already there. I would think the cost would be negligible. I wish they take down the neon signs and put up the old signs that had the artist schedule for that particular tent. That would have saved us lots of headache when we didnt bring our schedules with us on Thursday. I'd ask to look at someone's, find what I wanted, give the schedule back, start walking and completely forget where I was going and who I was going to see.

So glad to see I'm not the only one who hated the new signs and the placement of the band names. I'm short so the only way I was finding out who was playing was to get pretty damn close. As for screens Ashley comes off as pretty arrogant in the "different experience on different stage" quote. Generally the experience is that we can't see shit and these are the headliners for cryin' out loud. I wasn't a big fan of the lunar stage but they had a screen for Coco there, why not something like that?
