My girl and I are taking our time and making the best out of our vacation. Luckily it is easy to get off of work so I've got a few days to play before and after. Starting in Pittsburgh, Pa...I know for sure that we're driving through west virginia to the smoky mountains in tennessee and camping in a sweet spot inside the park. Then to Roo...after we're driving through kentucky and probably stopping at the maker's mark distillery. I've read up on a few swimming holes and fun attractions on the way but that's what i've got so far.
So...anybody have anything fun planned for the trip there or back??
But our first Bonnaroo (which was the first Bonnaroo coincidently), my girlfriend & I did the Jack Daniel's Tour. We both had fun, even though we're not really whiskey drinkers.
Also, depending on which way you are coming (or going) from, there's always Graceland (albeit a tourist trap.... but fun nonetheless). I guess that would vary greatly on your feelings about Elvis though, huh?

I'm riding my motorcycle from NJ down to NC to meet up with my VIP buddy 2 days before the festival. That wednesday, we're gonna tear up some twisties before loading up the Astro and heading to the Walmart.

I plan on bringing bop-it for the car ride, but other than that I have nothing planned. But thanks for the Graceland idea, I will definately try and see if the people I am going with would be down with that.

i saw this in another thread but saved the directions but if u google the name of the place you will see its a cool spring with a decent size falls.. here is the good maps page, im thinking about going here after but i dont know only time will tell..

There's a cool place a read about called the Townsend Y...that's somewhere near Gatlinburg. This is the website I found that shows swimming holes all over the US. I found a few I'd never heard of near me too!!
loretta lynn's ranch (hurricane mills) is pretty neat. the mansion is supposedly haunted, who knows. it's a couple hours west of manchester.
graceland - ha! i've lived here my whole life and have never been.
no but seriously, i myself am totally pumped for our trip post-roo to the manchester crackel barrel. sinks, toilets, and food on REAL PLATES - you have no idea what that does to me in such a state.

I'm leaving from Roanoke, Va at midnight on wednesday and arriving at Manchester thursday morning. I'm sure the sunrise will be beautiful through my windshield....
our one friend who has gone the past 4 yeards decided this year was his last roo. he's demanding we stop at the jack daniels plant on the way back from roo, since he doubts he'll ever be in tenesse again.

I don't know, I think it'll be fun.....My dad died about two years ago and my grandma died four years ago and they're both going cross country with my mom and I to Tennessee (Bonnaroo, they loved music), Then some how we're going to spread they're ashes at the Grand Ole Opry (Country was they're 1st love). Is that weird to anyone?
Biglou and I are driving straight to Roo, but we're taking the whole week afterward to drive back. We haven't planned anything yet, but I definitely gotta see the Smokies. ;D

I'm coming from Michigan... driving to Arlington Tx- to drop my son off to my mom for a month and a half.... then driving to wally world to chill (hopefully for at least an hour or two). Oh yeah, STRAIGHT THRU!!!
B (my co-host) and I are going to be stopping at random places, rest stops, etc... to see if there are any Roo people there. I'm gonna break out my mic and chat with people in random spots on the way down... Besides that, nothing out of the ordinary.
Coming from Va Beach, we considered stopping in Roanoke for the Last Waltz Ensemble on Wednesday, but thought better of it. We're going to stop in Kingsport instead and get a good night's rest.
I've got the week after off. Old Crow is playing Norfolk on Wednesday, then we have the Bayou Boogaloo festival in Norfolk the next weekend with Bonerama, Donna the Buffalo, Blues Traveler and Little Feat headlining.
I'm toying with the idea of stopping in Columbus to check out the True Colors tour. I've been jonesing to see Dresden Dolls lately and I've never seen Cyndi Lauper or Debbie Harry (well, I saw her at work one day but I've never seen her perform). Probably not, though, because it's Wednesday night and there would still be miles to go before I slept.
I always try to get a snack and beverage I've never had before whenever I stop on road trips (e.g., pickle flavored potato chips or celery soda). This will be my second road trip since I started eating meat so I can now also enter the wild and wacky world of jerky. I'm very excited.
Hey Chill, My friends and I live in North Cent. WV and will be traveling your same route from there. Nothing real exciting to add, but you will pass over the New River Gorge on the way. It is considered the Grand Canyon of the east and has a pretty cool visitors center and overlook if you just need to stop and stretch the legs. Just remember it is on the north side of the bridge, if you cross you have missed it, but there are plenty of signs.
nothing too much here...I have to head to NC first so the most I plan on doing is enjoying the drive through the mountains of WV and then TN on our way to Roo. They are just so much fun to drive through. (I wish if I had time on the way home I'd take the blue ridge parkway but I doubt I will)
