I really, really would like to know logic that went into Doc Rivers and Nate McMillan getting the boot. This is such a bizarre year that I don't think it's really fair to judge based solely on playoff performance. There had to be other things going on behind the scenes.

Well with Doc you have to assume Kawhi was at least ok with it if not the primary driver. Not sure if Oladipo or the players in Indiana carry that much weight, but Kawhi certainly does.

Right after I posted that I checked some reporting and it seems you're right. I don't know that the players wanted him gone but they certainly didn't insist on him staying.
MDA was the best coach to leave a team this year. Doc got SUPER lucky with that celtics team and it's very clear he's sort of plateaud as far as the clippers are concerned. Most 3-1 leading losses by a handful (I think I saw a qtr of all such occurrences in the nba playoffs). Idk who they'll end up with or that they'll be better than he was but I wasn't shocked

I think MDA has major flaws that have hurt the Rockets during his tenure. He basically refuses to deepen the rotation and develop younger players, and he is slow to make adjustments. I always feel uneasy about assessing coaching, because I'm not an expert in basketball on any level and certainly not MDA's, but some of his tendencies were incredibly frustrating. I do have to give him major props for getting the team to play defense the way they did in the bubble, though, at least early, and I can't pin the way Russ played on anyone but Russ (and also Harden for making us trade for him 😜)
