Sorry but I just have to brag a little bit. I just took 7th place over all out of over 14,000 players on xbox live's 1 vs 100 weekly music episode. I won't discount my intense music obsessing due to this past week's clue hunting as contributing to the success. This was my first time finishing in the top 10 and I was even in 1st place for a few questions as well. Oddly enough my final score was still slightly lower than my all time best set in last week's movies episode.
Also, for some reason, the first thing that popped into my head was Broken Social Scene. not sure why, but that's what popped in my head when I read the clue.
Their being booked at another festival in Austria that weekend definitely throws a wrench into the possibility but the clue still makes the most sense to me as gossip. Last year the Ting Tings (and, I think, Down) were booked at another festival the same weekend and later dropped Roo to appear at just that festival. It is entirely possible that they double-booked and may cancel on the other festival. Or they could hitch a ride with Jay-Z : )
And wow, you're like a walking, talking infomercial to turn people away from Pearl Jam and Ohio State, aren't you? Before you started posting here I quite liked Pearl Jam and was indifferent towards OSU, now I find myself wishing that Eddie Vedder falls down a mine shaft or that Columbus is infested with locusts

I'm with you on this one; DJJD hasn't commented on it as quickly as he had on the other ones... other than one. Might mean something
News that covers important topics = headline, top story (stories), breaking news, front page, lead story, scoop, expose, the beat, inside story, exclusive, interview, feature
brain dump. can anyone do anything with them? i'll revisit them in a few and see what i can do.
i like the idea of state radio. but news that covers important topics isnt just the radio or npr. bbc radio also has lots of news. as well as many others.
They are also called current events. I don't know if anyone has said that thus far, but didn't see it. Wanted to make sure we were fully fleshing this idea out.
police, because it keeps them employed? politicians, because they can spin it to fit their campaign? reporters, becuse it can further their careers? locksmiths and security system providers, because they sell more under paranoia?
This clue makes me think of R.E.M.'s "It's the End of the World as We Know It". There's something very "urgent news story" about the song. Some lyrics:
That's great, it starts with an earthquake, birds and snakes, an aeroplane - Lenny Bruce is not afraid. Eye of a hurricane, listen to yourself churn, world serves its own needs, dummy serve your own needs. Feed it off an aux speak,, grunt, no, strength, The ladder starts to clatter with fear fight down height. Wire in a fire, representing seven games, a government for hire and a combat site. Left of west and coming in a hurry with the furies breathing down your neck. TEAM BY TEAM REPORTERS baffled, trumped, tethered cropped...
Six o'clock - TV hour. Don't get caught in foreign towers....
Someone on clue thread 2 said that DJJD tweeted them and said something along the lines of 'REM isnt' the answer, but I didn't say they wouldn't be there'
"HA! Saw some incorrect clues answers- that were actually correct for a clue this coming tomorrow. Y'all got some ESP rock going on."
this was posted 10h ago so it is in reference to a clue coming tomorrow (friday). someone's wrong answer to one of the first five out before this tweet is the answer to an upcoming tweet. insane, and totally impossible to guess, since about a zillion bands have been guessed between the last five clues. ;-)

I know!! Haha! But I did wonder if it was a clue mentioned between his previous inforoo post (before this one) and this post--that was only about three fourths of a page of guesses in the clue 2 thread.

I see it as a internet news site such as CoS that sites important to me... but im just leaving for work so ill see you guys in an hour or so when i get there. ill make the connection some how, then.
Also, Son Volt has a song called "10 Second News" that references some actual events that took place in this area at the time. Son Volt has been to the farm before and they have a recent album. Probably not, but worth mentioning.
"News that covers" ->Widespread "important topics" -> Panic (we all have individual panics, but an event that would cause a panic amongst many people or a community would be an "important topic")
