OK, I've only been a reader for these clues so far and have only read the last page of this board, but c'mon it's Zion I! fillmore west? Their from San Fran, and I just saw someone writing about zion in page 9 (+ one letter), plus the clue is clue z. Haven't read through, but has no one guessed that yet?
I'm sorry to anyone who loves them, but I just can't (because I don't want to) believe that GWAR will be there. Although I guess that will be one show that I will not have to worry about conflicting with something else I want to check out.

Not sure if it's significant or not but djjd repeating of words (think think, one one) might be a hint? Also he has used the word "one" a couple of times where it seems strange. When he posted "... one one person was one letter away" is referring to the person that made the person who was close? Someone with "one" or "11" in their screen name or some sort of duplication in their name or a double of some sort in the band's name? I dunno?! Just a thought....

This is a good thought. I have 1 in my screen name and then last night DJJD said someone in my wish list would be there. After careful review I mistakenly left and "s" off of Drive-By Trucker 's'... just not sure how that ties to the clue....any help
I haven't read every page but I have seen it mentioned that this clue might be pointing to a new stage or tent. Could it mean The Which stage is getting 2 video monitors like the What stage?
Could it possibly be David Bowie/Ziggy Stardust=one??? I had the feeling that it could have been David Bowie for #6 also though!!!!!! Shit!!!!!! My mind is gonna explode!

Oh no, I am mortified to realize this actually works with the clue. What hatched the Starr - War. What is two times before "I" was - the letter G. So put what is two times beore I (G) before what hatched the Starr (War) and you actually have a plausible explanation for this. UGH.
Oh wow...you're right, that could work. And I don't even see how any of the hints don't fit with that...basically every hint we had was just relating to Edwin Starr, so that would work.
I don't really think Gwar is the answer, but I have to admit I don't see any specific reason it couldn't be. I'm going to laugh so hard if my first ever solved clue comes from a guess that was mostly in jest!

Since it appears that amish1 is getting somebody off of his wishlist, hopefully it will be the Drive-by-Trucker(s) based on what djjd posted earlier in this thread. I, too, have no idea on how to make it work, but I really am not stoked about GWAR possibly being the answer.

Gwar works perfectly with the clue itself, but it really doesn't when you look at all of DJJD's other guidance on this clue. He said someone was on the right track as far as using the timing of the song War as the hatching point, so to speak, and then he said that "Edwin is a winner or will help you win as you go think, think" Both of these tell us to use completely different logic than that which arrives at Gwar, so I think we're safe!
Aretha, on the other hand, fits with every single thing he has said, including the original clue. Probably still not the right answer, but man it would be so great if it was - Aretha and Stevie on the Farm at one time? Perfection!

If you're talking about number of Grammies, and djjd's mention of needing to add 1 letter to a word somebody mentioned, I think the word mentioned was "3d." Add "r" and you get "3rd." Alison Krauss is the 3rd highest Grammy Award winner.
Edit: Look up the symbol for "Z" in Antiqua typeface.

The only reason I'm talking about Grammies is because of Edwin "hatching" as a Starr and getting a grammy for War. So I'm thinking of Starr's grammy for War as "when the star hatched." Then before his grammy (star hatching) is two before the answer - in other words the grammy winner one year after him, which is Aretha, in the same category. That's the kind of reasoning that sublime was using last night that djjd said was on the right track. It's not about quantity of grammies, it's about the order of the grammies and the whole before the hatching=2 times thing. Also, he said if we add one letter we would have it, which I took to mean we would have a definitive person right there - an actual name.

I'm glad atleast we are all on the same page now for interpreting the wording for order. Last night when I was trying to crack the hot 100 angle I was really annoyed that there seemed to be so much creditablity for the carpenters when they weren't "hatched" before Edwin Starr when they were actually two spots before him. Bread was the one immediately preceeding and I tried to track that one down as well but it was the only time they had a number one so was a dead end. Diana Ross followed "War" but I have no inkling that this is the correct answer.

^^^^ Yeah, and djjd had suggested that was the right concept when Sublime first said it. The counting back and forth of the billboard charting didn't really work, but the grammy thing just might. Aretha is touring, djjd's reference to Think, her song Brand New Me, his use of one repeatedly - she's known as Soul Sister #1, somone had mention a Franklin and adding one letter, as an initial, gives us her name. I'm not seeing any part of the clue or anything he has said that doesn't work for her.

So what are we expecting for the two clues today? My feeling is one will be on the radio thought thought it would have come by now and then the second perhaps will be the easy one he mentioned last night before turning in coming in a tweet at his show.
Okay, Starr got his for War in 1971. Aretha got the next year's, 1972. Each was for best R&B vocal.
I don't think he won that year. I think he was only nominated. The winner from 1971 was BB King for The Thrill is gone. Also from his personal sight it only mentions nominations no winnings

That was before the winner thing came about. I was going for the time war hit #1 was hatching him and two times before that the carpenters were number 1.

Hmm. The wiki Starr site has him winning it. The wiki Grammy site does not.

Right...but it doesn't say two times before the star hatched...it only says before the star hatched. The two times thing refers to our answer artist. (presumably)
Post by viciouscircle on Jan 26, 2010 18:58:25 GMT -5
I don't think it really matters if Starr actually won, since DJJD's hint on that was that Starr "could at least help us win as we go, think think" and that suggests that he did not actually win. I think it only matters that Aretha won.
edit for the actual hint "edwin is a winner- you know, or will help you win as you go, think think"
Again, figuring Grammy Awards into it, Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel won the Grammy for Record of the Year/single twice as a duo. Later, as an individual artist Paul Simon won Record of the Year again, making him the record holder at 3. I'm sure someone's mentioned Paul Simon for this clue?
Edit: If by "before the star hatched" you mean the Big Bang, the before the Big Bang was "singularity." This is why I'm looking at the Record of the Year, otherwise known as a "single." It could also mean Simon's win as an individual without Garfunkel; his hatch.
