But Pink Floyd is now an appropriate answer for all clues just to be safe and no karma will be deducted for this guess and a mighty few good crunchies should be tossed to everyone who thinks like this!!!!!!!!!! I have seen Pink Floyd in 94 and Roger Waters several times but never ever together if they are together on that farm I will permanentally retire from concerts especially if they get Radiohead for the opener I would go insane.

I think the fact that DJ JD doesn't know for sure if this act has played Bonnaroo probably indicates that if they did play, it was really early on. If he's so excited to see them I'm sure he would have known if they played sometime recently. He played in 2005 so if this act played in one of the first 3 years then maybe he wouldn't know? So it would have to be someone who's been around long enough that that would be a possibility.
"9- I can't remember if this act has been at Broo before (don't think so), but I've never seen him/her/them play and I am TOTALLY stoked."
Waters/Gilmour/Floyd isn't something someone would forget about at roo (unless under certain conditions ;-] ), So i can say this theory is out the window, unfortunately...
I've seen 3/4th (or 3/5th if you include syd, which i do) of floyd live, mason being the only one i haven't, and both Waters and Gilmour put on a hell of a show, but i just don't see it in this clue, sorry guys...

Well we are getting at least one of these bands according to djjd. Whether it has to do with this clue IDK

Well, I bet I COULD, just not necessarily in a logical fashion...
Tennis shoes are defeated as a means of transportation if you're standin' on the highway with your thumb out and a trucker drives by...
A mouse could probably chew some holes in a tennis shoe, but honestly the tennis shoe would stand a better chance of defeating the mouse. And then it would be dead...
Observ(atory)ing a Ghost(land) could cause you to jump right out of your tennis shoes, thereby de-feeting them...
I could go on for days! ;D
(seriously, my track record is good? I am pretty sure I am useless at this clue-guessing thing, honestly)
Yeah I am with divisionbell, I want every single clue to be Floyd related. I would kill to see Gilmour or Waters either but am not daft enough to ever believe it would be both. No matter how hard I try I can not see anything Floyd related in this one because of DJJD sayin he can't remember if they have played roo or not.

what if it was one of those bands that had a member play before but not necessarily with the band currently in. dont think that fits any of amish's list though

just change your wishlist to Waters only ...then he HAS to play for us !
In a Press release recently announcing the relocation of Roger (Waters)'s show in Israel, Roger submitted a poem that he written inspired by watching The Bands Last Waltz. Its a wonderful piece, and to us its plain as day what it means, but we do not think for you.
A few weeks ago I watched again Martin Scorsese's film which documented the last concert by The Band and I was inspired to write a few words i see fitting:
The Last Waltz
I just want that thing When voices join in harmony And in that fleeting moment, Meaning coalesces on the ear, All dark, dissolving, clouds the alleyways no more And fresh bread scent of home pervades the air
No sandal soles <----------------------De-Feeted ??? In dust of broken homes Nor callused toes peep bloody from the garment hem, And all the big parades And shock and awe And swagger on the carrier decks and medals Jangle helpless in the face of what is fair
I just want that thing When friends draw in, some living some begone, Some brittle, none forgotten All beloved everyone.
Then dash the glass into the fire Then well up unashamed my heart Beyond the reach of fear Of faith, blind, bigoted and drear
And then across the great divide Rise men and women unafraid To dash in loss their bracelets at the wall, And hearing them Hope holds me in its thrall.
I just want that thing When empathy prevails When man evolves beyond the crass And reason comes of age When dogma, cant, and witchcraft All are banished to the past When voices join in harmony at last.
This matched with Amish1's list has me drooling. My clue: Humpty Dumpty fell off and made a splash!
You have to defeet your tennis shoes when bowling. (You also "check them in" before getting your bowling shoes.) There's the band Bowling For Soup that has a kinda totally stoked '80s feel.

If nobody can agree on whether or not this act played Roo...could it be something like someone out of Broken Social Scene? A case like that where people might not know for sure if the person performed with them at Roo?
Arcade Fire? Matt Nathanson had an album called Beneath These Fireworks and has toured with Ingrid Michelson before? Gaslight Anthem? The Doors (Come on Baby Light my Fire)???

If they definitely didn't play in first 3 years the must have just formed in the past 5 years? I also thought of drive by truckers because he said in his tweet some other band would steer you right to the answer. Anybody know anyone related to dbt which would fit the clue?
MIA, Pussycat Dolls, Arctic Monkeys, The Fray, Bloc Party, The Bravery, Kaiser Chiefs, We Are Scientists, & Magic Numbers are all 2005 debuts which stand out for me. Of these the Fray is the only one I can relate to defeating & shoes (frayed shoelace).

I can only think of a few possibilities that explain why people would be unable to agree on whether or not a certain act was there.
One is that it's one member of a band that's played, but beyond that it would have to be a band with a changing lineup, which was why I mentioned BSS. Something like that where if one person from the band was playing, you might not know for sure if they played when the band was there. What other bands fit that description? I don't see any obvious way to tie anyone from BSS to this clue.
The other possibility is that people could disagree on what "counts" as someone playing Bonnaroo. If someone was there as part of a band and is now playing solo, does that "count"? Or if they're there with a different band? Or any permutation like that.
So basically we need to find someone who played Roo solo after the first three years who now has a band they could be touring with....or a band who played Roo after the first three years which has one member who's touring solo now. Or something like that. I have no idea if I'm even making sense anymore.
Unrelated - DJ JD's latest tweets said that he's playing with Abigail Washburn tomorrow night in Hot Springs, NC and if anyone shows up and says "tennis shoes" we get a super easy clue. Anybody close enough to go? (I would so love to go to the show and just scream "TENNIS SHOES" at some inappropriate moment! )

Maybe it was someone who was small at the time and got bigger, like how Brett Dennen played a cafe stage in 2005 and The Other Tent in 2009, maybe that's where the confusion comes from. The cafe acts aren't well attended, documented or remembered.
