Don't we have this same conversation every year? It never sells out the first day. If it sells out at all it is just before the event. We lost two festivals this year because the economy is crap. Last year was the Jam band lovers dream lineup and still no sell out. You don't even have a lineup yet, relax.
Last year was the Jam band lovers dream lineup and still no sell out.
I don't know if I agree with this. Off the top of my head, I can't think of more than maybe 5 jam bands on last year's lineup: Phish, moe., Galactic, Govt Mule, and Ben Harper. I don't think R7 is really a jam band but people might put BH in there. Who else was there last year? Of all the Roos, 2009 had the fewest number of jam bands so far.

^You're right, but Phish, moe., and Mule constitute a jam lovers dream lineup, esp. considering that 'Roo has not been a "jam" festie for quite some time.

We're not talking about just lately, though. We're talking about Roo selling all the tickets, and all of the Roos count in this discussion.
moe. and Mule have been to Roo plenty of times already. Phish may be one of the two biggest jam bands, but Roo has had 12-18 jam bands in a single year, depending on who you count (that was 05). Even if you're just going by the top of the lineup, look at the year with biggest crowd at Roo ever, 2004: The Dead, Dave Mathews, Trey, moe., Mule, and at least 5 or 8 others, maybe more.
Compared to the other Roos, last year really wasn't the dream jam band lineup.
Instead of a lineup with 4 jam bands on it, I'd think a lineup like Widespread Panic, SCI, Bob Weir and Ratdog, Govt Mule, Galctic, Keller Williams WMDs, NMAS, and Tea Leaf Green would be closer to a jam band lovers dream. Oh wait, that was 07. ;D

as far as jam bands, Trombone Shorty in 09 needs to be considered a jam band.
I think they also allow more tickets availabl now then they did in past years do they not? I do, however, think that with Roth and 10k gone, more people may look towards the farm as an alternative to their fest but still think if you want tickets, they can be bought.

Yeah, he played first on the What stage on Sunday, before Erykah. It was great.
What? I had no idea Trombone Shorty had his own set on What Stage Sunday... I saw him with Galactic which was great, and he was the highlight of the Lenny Kravitz show I saw, so I'd have deffinitely gone to that.
I did sit at the What Stage all day Sunday from before Erykah til midst Phish, but immediately before Badu I was at Citizen Cope.

I too am surprised by the lack of a "definite" set of headliners. Usually by now, we have the buzz of two solid for sure headliners. Perhaps the recent additions of acts from canceled shows? I just hope that this year is as good as past years...
P.S. I do think it is safe to say that DMB will be their in some form. No solid leads other than what has already been posted up here.

Do you guys ever worry that your secondhand tickets won't be valid?
I don't know Roo's rules, but with a lot of places you can call the ticketer and claim your tickets as lost/stolen and they'll invalidate the old ones and issue you new ones. Has happened to me twice. I personally would never buy secondhand for a ~$200 ticket.

Maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea to start rumors of a sell out. Get people all worked up and get them out there buying tickets. I've just witnessed two great fests fade from the scene. I want to make sure nothing like that ever happens to this festival. Could never happen??? Nothing is beyond the realm of possibility in this mess of an economy. BUY, BUY, BUY before they're gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
