Nice pics Bunny. Do you remember running into me at the ATM?
Man, the pit was rockin'. That was some sort of awesome. Lay Low blew my freakin mind. I haven't been that close since my first MMJ show at a small club in 05. Jim had such crazy energy and seemed to be enjoying the crowd as much as we were enjoying him. POWER SLIDE FTW!!!! The man is truly becoming a rock god. I need more MMJ in my life.
Of course I remember! Dan, on the other hand, notsomuch. Jagerbombs are never a good idea. (I told him not to do it, haha.)
Sorry to hear about the douchlords in the pit. Fortunately for me the seats where were only had kind people.
Meh, I pretty much expect to have to defend my gf's honor at most shows I go to now. It's sad, yes. But these young douches, they have no concept of respect. I'll teach em if necessary
OMG. I totally ran in to Bunny and Dan! So funny, saw Bunny walking along (didn't realize it was her) and thought to myself "that girl's outfit is cute." Two seconds later, notice Dan walking along and yell DAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! only to realize it's Bunny's Dan and Bunny was the person I just saw. Great to see you, too, Garageland...and run the unofficial gate bar with you
This show was off the freakin' hook. I ran like a teenybopper to get on the rail and it was so worth it. I love PHJB...those are my people and it's so wonderful to see them getting so much love from a younger audience. I can tell they are really enjoying themselves, too. And MMJ...what's to say? They just get better and better and better and always remind me why I put so much in to seeing them every opportunity I get.
I have a bunch of good pics, I'll hopefully get them up soon. Thanks to everyone who made the pit such a great experience. I did experience some major douchebaggery as I tried to get back in to the pit after going to the restroom. It just seemed there were a lot of drunken younger guys in the audience. Oh well...sorry Linda noticed it to the point that she had to Tweet about it, but I wasn't about to let it ruin my night!
Just got back from the show tonight, it was awsome of course. Incredible energy from beggining to end and a great setlist that flowed very well The crowd was really great around me as well, everyone seemed into it and there was no one talking instead of watching the show which seems to happen at every concert I go too so that was a major plus.
I have to say that no other touring band out there right now has as much raw energy and power as MMJ, only band that comes close is Phish. Looking foward to seeing them again whenever the oppurtunity presents itself.

I was in the pit, maybe 1-2 rows back from the rail and yeah, the kids behind me were awful. Very early on, it almost seemed like they were trying to start a mosh pit. I turned around and said to this one boy "calm down." He looked at me like I had two heads, but hey, he calmed down!
Overall though, I was able to ignore them and just focus on the stage. It was awesome. Best concert ever for me. Just thinking about it now gets me all giddy.

Come on man, get out of your little jamband circle. You'll find tons of great music. I agree that MMJ is one of the best live bands in the world these days but to say no other band has much raw energy and power is completely ridiculous. Any decent metal band has much more raw energy and power than MMJ.
No surprise, they killed it last night. They're one of the most consistently awesome live bands for sure. We were able to get a great spot about 15 feet from the stage, dead center. It was raining pretty hard all day before the show but once the show started it slowed down to a drizzle which was disappointing considering we came prepared for an epic MMJ rainstorm show. I didn't even realize it was the last show of this tour until the end when Jim (I refuse to call him by his terrible new name) mentioned it.
The setlist looked much better on paper than how it actually played out. The pacing was a little off. They started off with a few energetic singles then there were many slower songs stringed together in the whole middle portion of the set. I loved the long mellow sequence but most of the audience was losing interest. However the end of the set and encore were perfect. The lightshow seemed to be toned down a bit from their last tour but I was fine with that.
The Preservation Hall Jazz Band opening was such a good idea. Most of these guys have been playing music longer than the MMJ members have been alive. Hopefully they keep them as their opener when they announce their west coast tour. Awesome collaboration.

lol, way to make assumptions from my post. I dont listen to just jambands, in fact the only jambands I really like are Phish and The Grateful Dead. I mostly listen to indie and alternative stuff and I still stand by my statement. Im sure there are plenty of death metal bands that have raw energy and power but the difference between them and MMJ is that MMJ actually makes good music while most death metal is unlistenable garbage, but then again thats just my opinion.

That was a very reasonable assumption. "No other band (of any genre) has as much raw energy and power this jamband (MMJ) only band that comes close is this other jamband (Phish.)"
I never said anything about death metal. That's just one of the many genres of metal. It's fine if metal isn't your cup of tea but to say it's mostly unlistenable gabage is just ignorant. Also the fact that you mostly listen to "alternative" music says a lot.

For some reason I misread decent as death metal. I actually like alot of metal bands, but death metal is absolutely terrible.
Ive seen alot of metal shows and while they do have alot of energy its a different kind of energy then what I felt at MMJ last night. Maybe my statement about MMJ was hyperbolic but it was how I felt after the show and how I feel after every time ive seen them.

SUCH a good time. Great to meet Bunny and Dan, so great to hang with Sass and Garage! Big *MWAH* to you all and hope to see you again real soon.
Show was completely insane, as expected. They truly are one of the best bands touring today - their shows are consistently amazing....blindingly powerful, emotionally cathartic...I always feel like a wrung-out dishrag afterward I was a little worried about the shortened set due to curfew but they just barreled through that setlist with such ferocious energy I honestly didn't miss that extra 20 minutes or so.
I did entertain the thought of just saying screw it and driving to Columbus from DC. I still wish I had.
Yeah, I feel like we messed up on that big time. Oh well...next leg?
The pit was great where we were, but we employed some preventative measures to keep the douchery at bay Seriously I've never felt such great energy in a crowd.
Anyway, MMJ on Saturday was INSANE. I had never had my face melted before like I did that night.
And I see the pics of the Bunny GTG and I remember your tent from tailgating! I wish I knew you were there, I would have totally stopped by to say hi!
The DBs in the crowd were horrible, totally ruining people's chilll time. Two of our friends left the pit and went to seats to prevent getting into a fight. Sigh. Makes me even more excited for the fabulous Bonnaroo people.

I wasn't aware of the curfew but it did seem a little short compared to the setlists I've seen for this tour. Does anyone know where to find last night's setlist? I'm curious to see it.

i was thinking the same thing. first, i loved CARRIED AWAY. and the neal casal thought struck me too... i like hearing both ryan adams and jim step back from the mic and do harmonies.... and both neal and carl are good in their own right. they are like kobe-shaq, pippen-jordan, stockton-malone, you get the picture... anyway, CARRIED AWAY and WONDERFUL (THE WAY I FEEL) were my favorite songs from the shows i saw this tour (nash & c-bus)
it was so good to see mmj again. i'm sad to have missed them early in their career. but it was baptism by fire once i got going... my first two shows were bonnaroo 08 and louisville waterfront 08. most of you folks have seen a wider variety of shows and more artists than me, but it really seems like mmj live is like no other.
we had an extra ticket for columbus and we gave it to one of our friends that was only a casual fan... and we just knew his mind would be blown... and so, like, ten minutes into DONDANTE my friend nudges me, "look at jake, he's flipping out." and my friend just has his hands on his head... like he's seen a ghost. quacking epicness.
edit: and can someone explain where i've heard WONDERFUL before? i really, really dig it. i'd love to see the lyrics if anyone has a link or a good guess....

Jim has been doing "Wonderful" at his solo gigs for the past couple years...I didn't see any of the MoF shows, but I seem to recall hearing that he was playing it at those too. Maybe you heard it there?

Sorry we missed you, too. We did a roll call and I asked for numbers. Ah well, next time! ;D At any rate we'll meet up at Brunch.
