I'm glad you guys got this solved, and I usually stay out of it all because I suck at clue solving. But this one is bugging me... the clue (to me) doesn't seem to have anything to do with the Flaming Lips. Can someone explain the reasoning?
City of finished fire (Asheville) where the lights aren't so tight (i.e. the lights caused problems) but do fit (despite being an awesome part of the show).
There was an incident at the Orange Peel in Asheville where the lights from a Flaming Lips show caused an epileptic to have a seizure (or at least some sort of problems). Several additional hints from djjd's twitter and from chat support this answer.

.
fit- could be another word for seizure
lights that aren't tight, are loose, that is, move around

just some ideas i am throwing out there
There were some references earlier in the thread to light show staff.

My two cents:
"fit- could be another word for seizure" = epilepsy "move around" = dancing
"Epilepsy is Dancing" is the name of a song by Antony and the Johnsons (and the light thing could also be a reference to photosensitive epilepsy as well). What do you all think?

Is there a doctor in the house? We've got fans having seizures -- and a band losing blood fast. Such were my thoughts after the first 15 minutes of the recent sold-out Flaming Lips show at the Orange Peel.
Apparently a warning should be posted for epileptics before every Flaming Lips performance -- which shouldn't be hard for the band to accomplish, given that a 20-foot movie screen is an integral part of their set.
The unlucky fan fell victim to one of the band's manic strobe lights, strategically placed at eye level, making it impossible to escape.
The show was stopped so the fan could be carted away by Orange Peel employees on what appeared to be a hand truck. After some assurances from the band that everything was OK, the main spectacle continued.
Confronting what seems to have become a predictable multi-media circus on all fronts, one has to wonder: How did the Flaming Lips ever get this far?

We hardly needed any more confirmation on this one, but here it is anyway from earlier today: "11 of course are the great boys from OK, the Flaming Lips"
