Agree wholeheartedly with the OP. The reason he is catching flak from all of you is because he had the audacity and balls to actually say it. The reason everyone is saying, "hey pal, you don't SPEAK for ME, how dare you blah blah" is akin to defending your favorite pop band in middle school when the heady kids on the school bus are making fun of your Under the Table and Dreaming cd in your discman. "hey guys, leave me alone, i like it OK" (even though you are slightly embarrassed to have it, even if you know nothing technically about the band's music or how it came to be, etc.)
Also akin to reading a few bad reviews for a record you just bought. You'll say, "what do those critics KNOW anyhow...they are wrong about this, so they must be wrong about all the crap i buy". Um....no. They are actually spot on most of the time and its your taste that sucks. No one can ever come to this realization. Truth hurts too much. So just defend away fools. Yeah, the OP didn't say something "constructive" nor was he "filled with love and positivity" in his post. OH MY! Him calling it a "bro fest" wasn't a bad stereotype but rather the sad truth.
You folks are in other threads bashing the lineup, but have to stop here to tell this guy he doesn't speak for you. Ok tough guys. We get it.
I already have 12 bands on my list that I will see (conflicts notwithstanding) Anything else is gravy. The kind of gravy you want on your biscuits in the morning.

I agree with pretty much everything the OP says. And I have read on so many sites, many others who agree too... it's why people keep saying things like "Just wait until the next artist announcement, Bonnaroo is gonna drop something epic on us." Just to clue you in, they are done listing the headliners. Bonnaroo hasn't announced headliners after the innitial announcement. And, the point is, they honestly really don't care if the line-up is "fresh" or unique or whether you (we, really) like the line-up or not. I cite this Q&A with Jonathan Mayers, President of Superfly, from Billboard.biz (http://www.billboard.biz/bbbiz/content_display/industry/e3i4c8c39f58df428b951233fcaddc3bb71) where he says: with risks you’re not going to make everyone happy, especially some of the people who were there from the beginning, but if you look at the artists, whether it’s Stevie Wonder or Jay-Z or Kings Of Leon, these are great artists with great music. And if you don’t like one particular act, there’s 10 other things going on.
See? It doesn't matter that Bonnaroo used to lead the other festivals in creativity of artists. KOL is headlining Sasquatch!. Jay-Z is headling Coachella. Stevie Wonder is closing Glastonbury. DMB tours every secondary market in the coutry every year.
I guess it bothers me so much because Bonnaroo has always been the best in the past. YES, it's not all about the music. YES, it's not necessarily all about the headliners. But there are NO OTHER BANDS to see when the headliners are playing. And why Superfly doesn't care about this anymore makes no sense at all. I mean, I don't know why they thought like that this year other than presuming it is somehow entirely tyed to the money.
And that sucks.
Sasquatch! and Coachella's line-ups shit all over Bonnaroo's this year. I never thought I'd say that. I wish those two fests weren't all the way across the country, because I can't make them.
I hate to have to turn my back on Bonnaroo, but I guess in reality, Bonnaroo turned its back on me... straight from the mouth of Jonathan Mayers.
