I'm hoping they get a late night against the Lips. Last year I stopped by Moe.'s tent before I went to camp for NIN, and there were about 4 people on the fence. I'd like to see the crowds like that again, getting a great spot for the first set and half of Umphrey's, until I have to pee.

i think after umphreys blew the roof off of the rothbury and allgood latenights last year there is a very good chance of them grabbing a late night this year at the roo. but if they do i must pray they do not conflict with a galactic or ween latenight because that would make me a sad panda.

they design late nights to conflict with each other. last year I wanted to desperately see Harper & R7, MGMT, NIN, and Moe. and they stuck them all at the same time. Hopefully conflicts aren't too bad for everyone this year
Just saw them in Columbus. Ended first set with Cherub Rock and they covered Hot for Teacher in set 2. I think they will get the slot (MMJ -08 and moe 09) that let's them play for many hours if they wish. After Friday's show I hope they play an extended set.

Hell yes for the official addition. OP thank you for not being a bullshitter.
Saw Umphrey's in early 09 after getting heavily into their albums and some exposure to live bootlegs. The show was in Boston and it was really bad. I didn't even stay for much of the second set. Must've been an off night, but I almost lost faith in UM.
Then there was Rothbury...and it changed EVERYTHING. Amazing late night set, totally blew my mind and made me do a 180 on a band that I thought was just a big disappointment.

I was at the buffalo show and then cbus... amazing song selections including nailing the covers!
Me: Did you say Retarded Steve was playing tonight? Boo: No, I have a speech impediment. I said that Retarded Steve is playing. www.411mania.com/siteimages/jcs logo_25254.jpg[/img] Check out Jam Central Station on Facebook on.fb.me/bT2xQx and @jamcentral411 on Twitter
Saw them LAST NIGHT in Madison, they tore the roof of the place!!
Saw them over in Iowa City, and was going to go see the Madison show, but i didn't manage to get up there... Did get to hear "I am the Walrus" which was fantastic!
for some reason (idk why) i am very confident Umphrey's will get a latenight set this year. yes they've already had two latenights, but ask anyone who went to Roth or AllGood last year and they'll say Umphreys latenight was the talk of the weekend. they are a smart band and can adapt to any setting and are obviously a favorite in the bonnaroo community. i'd rather them have a tent all on their own one night, but if they share one with the biscuits that's cool too. what's the general consensus? day or night?

Damn skippy. That Rothbury late night blew doors down. I'm hoping UM plays til the dawn.
Umphrey's is superior to me to all other jam bands. Remember when phish broke up and everyone thought they were the next phish? I got introduced to them at roo 06 amazing. roo 08 another face melt. Just saw them third time in Eureka back in October and man some of the jams they had were incredible! They pulled offf a live dubstep jam, and that sure beats any DJ doing it from a lap top in my opinion. Alot of times they incorporate a song that themes the set, for instance this last set started with Bridgeless into Roulette, then visions of parin back into roulette then 13 days, utopian fir, uncle wally then somehow tied Bridgeless back in perfectly to end the first set wowzers.

^I've always hated the "Umphrey's is the next Phish" dialogue. However, I will agree that they are the most "cerebral" jam band these days (other than Phish, now that they're back). They put a great deal of thought into the setlists and the shows in general. I don't see UM a whole lot outside of festivals, but I always enjoy their own eclectic brand of creativity each time. Will be a must-see show for this guy. . .

they just need to get it over with and make umphrey's a headliner. more deserving of it than kings of leon, more jammy than dave. saw 'em about a month ago, been seeing 'em since 05 and this was, not only the best umph show i've ever seen, but one of the best shows i've ever seen in cincinnati, which is pretty much the only place i go to shows. umph is not just one of the best jambands out there now, but one of the best live shows all around - music, lights, vibe. they got it all, they bring it all every night, and so do their fans.

truth.
this comes to mind whenever i think of umphreys - >
they're among the hardest working people in music, i would venture to guess. the amount of energy they give to a crowd every night while playing insanely complex songs with even more complex jams and segues, it's unbelievable really. i don't even think there should be a phish vs. umphrey's discussion, it's kind of a no-brainer for me, and that's coming from a huge phish fan. i'll probably get some hate for that but, hey, i truly believe it.
Umphrey's is great, but no way they're big enough to headline. hate on kol, but they are big. Give Umphrey's a moe-like six hour late night in a tent and let the faithful rock out, plus get some new fans who stumble over when everything else finishes.
All three are dynamite shows that showcase just how badass they are playing, listen for the covers and some of the high profile jamming that they are ripping out
If you're in to those bands. than I can garuntee you will enjoy them. They are a prog-jam band. I would think of them as if Floyd funked on YES and out came a Zappa Beatles Baby.
Basically, they are capable of doing anything, anytime.
Anyone that was at the latenight in '06 KNOWS that that is where they belong. This time, put them on after TDB.

nice explaination. i'm sold. now i just dont know if i should watch em at waka or at roo
watch em at waka.... becuase someone might conflict with them at the roo.. and if no one conflicts go to UM..... thats wat I would do, I get to see them up to 4 times at SummerCamp, and if no conflicts i will be seeing them again at the roo
