Make sure the volunteers have a clue. I didn't find out til the last day that all of the plates and forks in Centeroo were recyclable. The volunteers just watched me throw these in the trash a couple of different times.

How about just NOT throwing your smurfing trash on the ground? Every year that I've been to Bonnaroo, I've been outraged and disgusted by how much trash was just lying on the ground. Even when Roo was the flagship Hippie/Jam festival, centeroo has been absolutely covered in cups, plates, bottles, napkins, glowstix and MILLIONS of cigarette butts by Sunday morning (if not much earlier)! And Don't even get me started on all of the plastic and glass bottles (broken and not), cans, old balloons, plastic and styrofoam cups (and even coolers), random broken and used-up camping gear, MILLIONS of cigarette butts and everything else (too much other bullsh!t to list here) that clog the campgrounds from the very first day! Jesus Christ! I don't care if you're a hippie or not, How hard is to throw your nuts away? How hard is to throw your nuts in the bags you're given? How hard is it to not be a complete smurfing slob?
Has it ever occured to anyone that part of the crazy ticket prices comes from the projected cost of the massive clean-up staff?
(Due to my military commitment, I haven't been to for the last few years, but my brother and friends say it's somehow even gotten worse!)

regarding the caps of bottles: They're "not recyclable" because they're a different kind of plastic. Most recycling facilities are set up to recycle the main plastic, (think the clear plastic part of the water bottle) so the more dense plastic of the cap can't be processed correctly. To my knowledge it's just the same as throwing trash in with recycling. There's a certain percentage in a recycling batch that can be misc. material. Anything above that and the batch must be thrown out. Think about putting...ketchup ...haha..in a drink. One drop of ketchup youll be fine. Any more than one drop and you mess up the whole drink and it's wasted. Silly explanation, but this is my understanding on the matter
i thought i should note, the cups are compostable. don't forget to compost the appropriate stuff next year, including all paper, the plastic-loking cups, and any other organic material (no animal bones).
