I don't get it. What's with all you guys GF's and wives giving you sh!t about going to this? Why should they care? If you have a passion for something, your significant other should either share that passion, or let you enjoy it.
Now if it were kiddie porn, or banging the neighbors wife, I could see the problem.
My GF just shakes her head at this point when I tell her I am going to see some obscure band with a funny name.

Haha Druid...I'm gonna give you my girlfriend's number and let you tell her that But, in seriousness, she does like going to shows a lot and she does like a lot of good music (and she used to live next door to Levon Helm in NY ), otherwise I probably wouldn't be in a committed relationship with her. But, she doesn't like it as much as I do, so sometimes she just thinks I'm overdoing it. She won't get MAD necessarily...but I asked her the other day and she hasn't heard of Godspeed (I'll probably play Skinny Fists for her before I tell her I'm going to their show), so it'll be more like "Really? You're driving six hours to see this band with this queerlord name?" That kind of thing...Plus, time and money...tix were really cheap, that's why I'm doing it, but gotta get gas for there and back plus might have to get a hotel room since it's such a long drive.
To those going to Athens... I'm unclear on whether we're receiving tickets through mail or if it's will call. Was drunk when I bought them and I can't remember.

I think I read somewhere on that site that when you buy tickets online for 40 Watt, they just put your name on a list and you bring your confirmation e-mail and an ID on the day of the show. I hate making a long drive when I don't have hard tickets in hand.

that's how it has been every time i've been to 40 watt. i didn't see an option to have them mailed.

The one time I used will call was at the Earl in Atlanta for a Legendary Pink Dots show. I bought them online day of and had to do will call, so I called the Earl and they said it was all good. I was still worried about it, though.
So I get there, eat a burger, go across the street to some hip hop club and had some beers. Come showtime, I get in line and when I tell them I'm will call, they can't find my name. So they go to their computer and pull it up. Willcall worries me.

According to R5's website, Philly tickets sold out in 15 minutes. I got mine but no one else I know was able to, so at this point I'm basically going by myself. I wonder if they'll add another day?
