Ha. This shit is confusing me so much. I think we always go in ex 127. We are always by the church, and I have always enjoyed it. Port o Johns are usually clean, and it is quiet and just delightful all around. Do you consider that BFE? Where is the cutoff for BFE?

I think when most people talk about BFE, they are talking about the seperate camping section. I think it's the James Bond camps in the south east corner. But I got parked where you are talking about in the NE corner and I call that BFE as well because it's so far away. I'm heading in the main entrance off of 24 this year.

word. both years my crew went to wal mart the night before.
from what i understand if you go in wed. night, they put you in the james bond area? we aren't going to wal mart this year, and i am a bit bummed cause i don't want to wait in the lines on the highway for hours. I personally like being in the church area. Both years we waited for less than an hour to get in... and I cannot stress the cleanliness of the port o johns compared to the closer locations.

We waited for 5-6 hours last year but we didn't get in line until 10am Thursday morning. I think we'll be in access this year so it doesn't matter much to me. Although I may go in Wednesday night this year. NOt sure who all is going with me yet and who I am meeting there. It's still around two months away. So much can change in two months, so I am not even going to start planning.

i will be coming from nashville so i'll be heading south on 24. my plan was to turn around at exit 127 and get back on 24 heading north so i can enter thru exit 112.
i'm getting to manchester around 6am thursday morning.
i've heard the cops close the exit at some point so people can't turn around to head north on 24 to enter at exit 112.
any1 know how far the next exit is after 127 (heading south on 24)??
if it's not too far, i may turn around there so i don't get stuck waiting to get into the farm via exit 127.
i'd rather spend more time on the farm then in my car waiting to get in.
don't listen to this nutballs who tell you it is 'fun' camping far away. our walk our first year was 45mins-1hr and last year, no more than 15mins. i saw 10 more shows and felt better overall. it makes a big difference in my opinion. you can head into centeroo earlier to catch just one show and then go back to your tent for whatever, if you want. when you are 2+ miles away, you aren't going to want to just jot back to your camp.
It's a bit of a devil you know vs devil you don't know scenario:
You can go in early, avoid waiting in line for 2-8 hrs, get situated in the cool of the evening and get decent night's sleep knowing that you'll have about a 1/2 hr to 45 minute walk.
Or, you can wait to go in in the morning, wait in traffic for 2-8 hrs in the sun, set your camp up in the same sun, hope to be set up in time for the Thursday night sets and then play the crapshoot of being parked closer or further away than you would've been twelve to eighteen hours earlier.
theres always the option of getting in Wed night, and moving into tent only on Thurs! I just hope all this talk of Tent Only getting even smaller doesn't hold true *crosses fingers*

Here's a question I've been trying to find an answer to for a few weeks: What if you are camping in Access but you come in on Wednesday night? Do they send you over to Access? Do they park you somewhere in BFE and then send you over to Access in the morning?
I'll be arriving in Manchester on wednesday night but I will be in an RV.... anyone know if they let RV's in early and if there is an equivilant BFE- or will we just get placed in a random RV lot.
Nope, you can get into access on wednesday night. Just make sure to have all your stuff in order, cuz the parking folks don't get the memo.
Just to clarify - what exactly do you mean by having my stuff in order? Just having a handicapped tag ready to show them? You don't have to do anything else to get into Access right?

It's been different for the last 3 years coming North on 24, however most years a good 25 miles out I see cops at the top of every off ramp. Pretty much I know as soon as I hit the whindy part of 24 through the "mountains" I need to mind my driving P's and Q's.

thanks for the heads up, but that really didn't answer my original question.
i will be heading south on 24 (coming from nashville).
i just want to know how far down the next exit is past 127.
again, i'm heading south on 24 (away from ROO), not north (towards ROO).

If it's just you and whoever is in your vehicle, yes. If you've got a convoy, you're gonna need companion passes. At least that's how it was a few years ago when I had a hc tag. Either way, best not to take my word for it and email the roo folks to find out the foreallyreal deal for this year. You know how they like to change stuff.

Again...When I'm coming north going past all the exits you want to turn around at, I always see cops at the top of the of all of the off ramps about 20 or so miles out. That means you can probably just go 1 exit up but I wouldn't be suprised if you get hassled a bit.
I learned so much last year and really, the less time spent in camp, the better. I am bringing a handle of booze, a case, beef jerky, and chips. All other food items I will buy on site. I was in BFE last year and lost so much time running back to camp to cook and drink. Booze and cooking should be the last things you want to spend your 4 days worrying about!
In case anyone else was wondering about the Wednesday night arrival if you are camping in Access, here's my official response:
"The official opening is early Thursday but when they are able, they open early to alleviate crowding on the highway. When they open, the Accessible Camping area opens as well. You will be directed to Accessible Camping as soon as the gates open. Make sure that you have the state-issued accessible parking tag."

Yeah this makes a big difference in how I was feeling about going down Wednesday night this year. Not that I didn't have fun in the Wal-mart parking lot last year, but I'd rather be inside Roo setting up and partying than laying on pavement any day.

Getting in on Wednesday is really nice. There is also the solid chance that waiting to come in Thursday you will be even farther away than the James Bond area, which when you can cut through around at the What Stage isn't more than a 20-25 min walk. However, with the deep lineup this year and the anticipated amount of time I will be spending in centeroo, we may be taking the chance to get a little closer.
Bring earplugs. If you are worried about a good night's sleep, you'll get it no matter where you are... if you have earplugs. BFE doesn't always = quiet. In '07 I was in BFE, but my neighbors had a giant nitrous tank. Not saying that's a good or bad thing, just that all I heard for four days was "PSSSSHHHHHHHHHHTTT!!!" about every two minutes. Then someone with an empty balloon in their hand would fall down in front of my campsite. Doesn't matter where you camp, just bring earplugs so you can choose when you want to sleep. Closer to Centeroo gives you a shorter walk, but BFE gives you a whole different community and a much more interesting walk.

I've never understood how people pass out on nitrous. Why take it that far? It doesn't hurt to breathe a little gasp of oxygen during the inhale. I wonder how people manage to sneak tanks in. Well, we could have last year due to not being searched at all. I can't imagine taking that risk.
