I dont know if I've seen this video link on inforoo but i have heard people talking about this before. Its cool that they are making bonnaroo more permanent. Prob help out with saving money for better headliners for next year.

That is very cool. It sounds like they have the intention of doing lots of permanent structures in the future. I imagine the could do some pretty cool stuff from an infrastructure standpoint. I'd like to see them air condition the whole farm.
^No but it makes sense in a lot of different ways. The Coachella grounds are out from what I hear, combined with no Southern Love for the Summer tour. That being said it is certainly just wild assed speculation on my part.

Only the base and framework of the stage. He said they weren't going to pour the floor this year, it'll still be wood. My guess is that work on the rest of the stage and any other related projects will start soon after Roo. If someone lives their locally then the plans are likely public record and you could see exactly what their permit is for.

Also, is this a new stage or just a replacement of one of the current stages? I'd assume they'd make the What stage permanent since it's the biggest and probably the hardest to construct and I can't imagine another new stage. What would they even call it? The Wait, huh? Stage?

I'm guessing this stage will be replacing what has been the What stage all these years, with the "bonnaroo" sign. I guess it makes sense, but why not start doing it earlier, or later (after this year's roo)? This video's from April, which means this thing is half constructed. I would have waited until this year's events were over and then finish building it over the rest of the year.

It's a permanent What stage. The video is clear it will be used this year, with construction finalized after this year's Bonnaroo. I assume inauguration of the new albeit uncompleted stage will take place Friday, June 11, in early afternoon if past schedules are any clue.
An inaugural performance could happen Thursday, I guess. It would need to be in the evening to allow for arrivals to pitch camp and get settled. Being Thursday evening, the act would need to be fairly quiet/acoustic, and end by 11 PM so as not to make neighbors irate. A Neil Young acoustic set Thursday evening would fit the bill and fill the venue early. A superjam would almost be as good.
Does anyone else think it's a little strange that Bonnaroo hasn't made a formal announcement about this? This little news station picked it up because of the building permit. I just figured they would have sent an email, put something on the website, etc.

Nope, they are cagey like that. I think we found out they bought the land from a local newspaper article.
Of course I get an email from them every other day about really stupid sh!t.

No, not at all. He said in the interview that most attendees wouldn't even notice a difference. This is a good sign for Roo, as far as longevity is concerned, but this new stage isn't going to look any different than what we've become used to every year at Roo, at least not at first.

Just out of curiosity, but how is Raleigh>Charlotte>2 nights in Atlanta not southern love?

Four Southern shows is pretty low imo, though the July 4th run is cool. It is just my opinion on the matter like I said it is not based on any kind of facts.

Even knowing this information, I still probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference between this stage and the old rentals. This just seems like a big deal because it is another expensive (and visible) capital investment in the property, which cements 'Roo's longevity and the likelihood that the festival will continue for the foreseeable future.
It just seems like that would be really encouraging good news to the festival's loyal fans...
I didn't have any sound at work so I had to re-watch the video. He also says that it will be easier to get some other acts there. I took that to mean other things non-Bonnaroo. So that adds to the Phish/other festival rumors.
