Not sure why this has been so hard for me to resolve, but it's been a pain. Last time I went in my friends car and it had an "always" on power port so we would just charger overnight in the car. My car I have to have the key turned on to charge. So I've been trying to find a simple charger that will run off regular batteries.
Ideally a battery powered LED lantern with a USB charging port would be great. I know the lantern would get used again. But the only ones I’ve found are the hand cranks and have been fairly expensive. I am trying to keep cost to a minimum here and also not throw away money on something that only gets used once. Spare phone battery makes no sense as it will only give me a day and I'd still have to charge it. Also it wouldn’t get used again. I’ve looked at the Energizer and Duracell portable chargers too, but they either need charging too or only give a small boost. Kicking around the idea of using my lawn tractor battery, like the other thread I saw. But rather not if there is a better idea floating around.

Fuse barn or random outlets in centeroo. I've heard that you can find random outlets in the tents. Im not too worried about my phone this year. I've got a power inverter for my car plus i have an extra battery. If you're going to use a battery, use a deep cycle marine battery.

really??? that's interesting. the line always seems to be so long to get in the fuse barn to charge, plus then you have to hang around and wait for it. is there a better time of day/night to go and is there anything else in there to do while you're waiting?

Found my charging solution. Ozark Trail tent fan, it has a 8 D-cell battery back that has a cigarette lighter port on it. Got a splitter to run fan and charge my phone at same time.

mechanical bull!!
no way, a mechanical bull for real? I could stay on one of those 25 years ago. not sure what would happen if I tried it now...lol
heads up, charging station will be outside of the barn this year. inside is for us fuse contest winners only. i think theres an outdoor lounge area they'll put it.

so I guess this means you won the contest? congratulations.

Elitist
Wow, I didn't know you guys got the entire barn. That's awesome.
Zen, I don't think there is a good time to go there. I've never even been in the barn. It's funny, I've been to Roo twice and there's so much that I haven't done. I've never been in the Fuse Barn, Silent Disco, cafe or Troo Music Lounge, Art of Such n Such, and a bunch of other things. I'm going to try to make time for some of that stuff this year.

Yeah. they said anyone entering the barn had to be either the winner or 1 of the 10 guests (or 1 of the Fuse workers) and there'll be 24 hour supervision to ensure that. There's a chance it still may be inside, but you drop it off or something, but I have no clue how it was set up and if it's possible to move it outside. The Roo site says something about dropping it off and hangin out in the hammocks or misting tent while you wait, but doesn't mean it's inside still. We get the main floor, and i don't think they'd have people botherin us all the time just to charge their phones. Second floor loft is for the Fuse person watchin over us. we're not allowed up there (supposedly).
Yeah. this is my 1st year, and I'm not sure I'll have time for the Silent Disco or most of the smaller cafe acts and whatnot. So sad art of such n such isn't happening, but i have enough to do/see. Gonna definitely try to ride the ferris wheel once. Maybe 1st thing Thurs while things are still more relaxed and people still getting in.

I got one of these two. But I had not planned on using a splitter. You think I will have enough power to run BOTH?

Well I did try it when I got home, it will run the fan and charged the phone at the same time no problem. I am sure it will deplete the batteries a little quicker but if you were charging your cell by batteries anyway that should be a wash. My guess is that 8 D-cells would charge a phone quite a few times (20+ uneducated guess).
Trick is to not use an inverter as they suck up a lot of power themselves, and would probably drain the batteries in less then an hour.
The cell phone charging station was on the outside of the barn last year... the inside was a live band karaoke and arcade. Congrats on winning but it seems silly to limit the inside of the barn to just the winners this year. Live band karaoke was a good idea and it was nice to get out of the sun.
Thanks. It was probably some sort of way to get more people's attention to Bonnaroo and try to get more tickets sold in the end. who knows, but thanks for updating us. I haven't been, so I couldn't say anything in confidence, but people made it sound like the station was inside.

iirc there are outlets at the back of the tents now, since they changed all the signs over to being electronic
other option is to just charge it all the way down on the car ride. I can usually get mine to last long enough that way if i turn it off when i'm not using it
We got one of these inflator/jumper deals. It's 400w deal (so no hair drying ladies). We used it so far to inflate a queen size airbed and charge a digi cam battery. We are going to charge our phones off of it for the next couple days to test how long the battery lasts. My Blackberry will usually stay charged for 3-5 days, but I am sure it will die once at Roo!
I picked up a thingy at Brookstone last night that runs on two AA batteries and plugs right into the cell to power it once your battery dies. It came with adapters for most brands, it seems, it was $25 and all that I'll have to do is keep feeding it with AA's which I seem to have a million of after every Roo anyways. Here's a link:
do they frown upon people starting there vehicles every so often ?
Nope. Just don't recommend it at 5AM. In fact I encourage you to start it up every day. Charge your phone, get cool for a minute and keep your car battery charged. It's a win win

The 4 D battery ceiling fan deal will run the fan for about 8-10 hours. We take two with us.
please update on how your trial works. I have a blackberry too and am concerned that I'll be using a lot more than usual as I will be texting back and forth with kids a lot. so I know I'll be draining battery power faster.
(not to mention up to moment facebook updates so I can in-your-face all my uncool boring friends and husband who wont get off their arses to come to Bonnaroo...lol)
Yeah the charger/jumper/inflator is a beast. It keeps powering up stuff. Plenty of juice for the phones and camera batteries. I even powered up my laptop from it during a storm the other day. It still has almost a full charge.
I have a jumper/compressor and I wasn't planning on bringing it, then I read this thread and ran downstairs... sure enough it has a usb charge port on it. Sweet. No fuse barn lines for me. Good thing too, cause I have a fancy new phone this year that uses a lot of juice. Yay!
