First time going to roo, I was wondering what other peoples experiences had been like showing up weds night and camping far away from centeroo. Thanks!
The BFE parking is in this box shaped field; where they don't even cut the dang grass as low as the main fields, and the wandering vendors rarely get to your location to offer you their goods.
*Note: My party leaves from northern florida each year. We leave Wednesday night around 11pm; this gets us in line right in time. Only once were we penalized and forced into BFE. I'de just do that personally....
BFE is great. It's a bit quieter, you're surrounded by people who are equally enthused to be at Bonnaroo and were happy to get there earlier. The portopotties seemed to get cleaned first. I never had any problem with longer grass there than anyplace else. You don't have to wait in line for 4 to 6 hours in the increasing sun. You get to set up in the cool of the night and get a decent night's sleep. Depending on when you come and go, there's a shortcut through VIP into the What Stage with very short lines.
And, when you think about it, you're not guaranteed a better spot if you do wait in line Thursday morning. You may be five minutes from Centeroo but you might be forty-five minutes. As has been said, it's a crapshoot.
The first year, I was in Thursday morning and camped in the current VIP area. Great. Years 2003-2006 I was in BFE, and that was fine, too. My perspective has changed on BFE these days, as I'm going VIP now (I know, I know, sue me, jeez, I'm 48 and fat). The main thing that sucks about BFE is that as the VIP square footage has expanded, the walk to Centeroo has gotten at least 1/3 longer--it's got to be about a mile. For that reason, if you stay in BFE, be prepared to hike and seek shade always while you do. (Tip: walk close to all fence lines, wear a hat, and dance on the edge of the mist tents whenever you can.)
All things being equal, though, if I wasn't in VIP I'd do BFE again. Getting in on Wednesday night is cool. You do need to understand and be prepared for the fact that you are essentially locked down there until Thursday. I didn't walk down there last year, but I did the year before and the vending scene was nonexistent--that's kinda sad, but predictable and in line with what had happened all over 'roo. (Except, apparently, out across Bushy Branch, but danged if I'm going to walk all the way out there...)

Pretty much this. The grass was however pretty damn long where we were last year. Other than that I loved it. We got in around 6-7 am Thursday morning if memory serves.

I've read almost every thread about theories to getting a good spot - it's like the blind leading the blind. Even if you are parked a 30 min walk it's BONNAROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I stopped obsessing about the mythical perfect time and the cop hassel. See you there! Take lots of pictures and post them up
