If you take a nap during a headliner for a late night make sure to set an alarm.
Last year I made the mistake of napping during Stevie Wonder and slept until 4 am, I missed Jay Z and Deadmau5. I was pretty bummed when I woke up. I ran out to the road and asked some guy what time it was and if Jay Z had played, he's like dude it's 4 am.. haha
I did the same thing last year. The girl I was dating and I decided to nap during Stevie Wonder. The night before we didn't get back to the tent until about 4:30 and then a few minutes after going to bed a huge argument started outside. Turns out some guy came over to our neighbors to play beer pong, passed out, then someone stole $700 from his wallet. He came back around 5 in the morning with a group of friends who smashed out the thief's friend's tail light and they all had a screaming match. This went on for well over an hour. I just sat in a chair outside my tent watching them until the police finally showed up.
So we barely had any sleep because of that and then the sun woke us up at 8. Saturday night went to bed for Stevie Wonder, set an alarm, but we slept through it and missed what we would've seen of Jay-Z. Got to Dan Deacon on time though. Then we found out our camera was stolen from my car while we were taking our nap. Girl I was dating ended up going back to the tent early because someone dumped a beer on her head during Gwar. Not the best night.
As for staying up here's some things I did:
First off, I am a night owl and have been staying up super late for ten years now, so my body is used to it. But during the daytime I learned that if I was going to a show I only kind of wanted to see, it was best to sit outside of the tent under the shade to listen to it. Much easier than spending the energy trying to stand up close, dancing, or even just standing at all. I also took some little afternoon naps during these times.
Wasn't really interested in the headliners last year so we'd only catch a bit of them, then walk back to our camp. Each would eat sandwiches and drink a Nos energy drink (this stuff is powerful). With the food and energy drink and rest, I was always good to go until late at night.
Also, snack during the day and drink water constantly.
Those are the things that worked best for me. I operated on very little sleep during Roo but was able to stay out until 4:30 Friday and Saturday nights without any problems at all. I guess I knew I could rest in the coming days, so powering through the weekend was both a mental and a physical thing.

wow, that is one of the most negative stories i've ever heard from roo. sucks that you had to witness all that go down (and that it happened in the first place).
and the don't look at your watch suggestion was great. that's never occurred to me that knowing what time it is could make you tired.
I agree, the best way to say up for late night shows is to not sleep through great acts like Stevie Wonder, especially when he is followed by Jay-Z. Ohhhhhhhh Bonnaroo.
Do you consume energy drinks on a regular basis?? If so then it is meh at best. If you can stay away from caffeine and energy drinks for a month prior to Bonnaroo then your body will naturally detox and any energy drink you have will work quite well.

I work 3rd/graveyard shift so I will tell you some things that work well for me.
1. BUY B-VITAMINS! If you look on the side of the 5 hour/suped up energy drinks and such, all of them are loaded with B vitamins. Getting them into your system say Tuesday the week of the Roo will be a good start.
2. CAFFEINE IS GREAT BUT YOU'LL NEED MORE WATER! While I love caffeine, it dries your body out, thus potentially clashing with the benefits of helping pep you up. Drink lots of water/gatorade type stuff to help with that.
3. FRUIT MAKES A GREAT SNACK-I tell all my crew under me to eat a banana if they feel sluggish before work, the potassium helps with your muscles and keeps you hydrated as well.
4. AT SOME POINT IN TIME, YOU HAVE TO SLEEP-Putting it off is all good and fine, but a nap during the day under some kinda shade will help a ton.
5. ALCOHOL WILL/CAN MAKE YOU SLEEPY-I know this is one of those touchy subjects, but alcohol is a natural depressant that will make you tired and dry you out as well. Again I cannot stress how if you keep hydrated this will help give you energy (Thanks MMJJ!)

Well, hopefully I will be camped semi close this year, and my goal is:
1. Sleep / Rest in centeroo during eminem 2. Go to the tent before AF / Sat LN, and consume 2 Monster Nitrous Energy Drinks (back to back), then drink a gatorade on the way back to centeroo (and water after that) 3. I am going to take some sleep aids to hopefully get a few extra hours of sleep this year
My friends had a good system for sleeping in last year. They bought a rug at Ross or something and brought it with them and set it up under the shade tent. When the tent got too hot they just dragged themselves out to the rug and got a bit more sleep.
The documentary tent is also a good place to nap during the day. It's in the Planet Roo area. I always get too cold in the cinema tent.
I have never heard the words "too cold" uttered at Roo.
IDK, if I'm in the cinema tent for more than 15 minutes I start going crazy. I try and convince myself that I will be more unhappy once I leave, but I never listen.
I'm telling you, I can feel it. This is going to be the year that it's going to be cloudy and lighty raining the whole time. No down pours, just a little rain.
It's going to happen. Then all of our conversations will switch from how to sleep late in the morning or stay up at night to how many pairs of socks should I bring.

While this may seem like a sound plan for both staying hydrated and getting quick energy, that is a sure formula to spend the entire AF set in line for the Portapotty or doing the PeePee dance the whole time. I know from experience, hahaha.
3/24- The Greenhornes 3/31- Queens of the Stone Age performing Queens of the Stone Age. 4/27- Arcade Fire w/ The National 5/19- Primus 6/09-6/12- Bonnaroo! 6/13- Ray Lamontagne 7/04- Florence and the Machine with fireworks.
Too cold, so foreign to my ear but I was looking at the weather averages and apparently the last three years we've been have been outside the norm. I'd love to have a chill!!!
To stay up at night the trick is to make friends with someone with ADHD

Arlene and I (Tim) are 1st shifters so two weeks before roo we try to stay up later than 10:pm and still function during the day. That was the reason for asking the five hour energy question. Thanks for all the intell. We are going to give them a try as far as fruit goes Arlene was a diet supervisor at the local hospital. So she had that part covered.
My then girlfriend accidentally left my passenger door open so that's how it happened. I was at Dan Deacon/Gwar/Deadmau5 that night and felt sick with worry the whole time that her macbook had been stolen too since we hadn't checked on it after finding out the camera was gone.
I didn't feel too bad for the guy who had the $700 stolen because he was stupid for carrying that much cash around and he lost it because he was too fucked up on drugs.

That would be ideal weather, and I'm going to bring the same number of socks I've always brought, 0.
