Holy shit, would really really really like to make that show, and I'm technically only going to be two hours from it (in Roanoke), but we were planning on heading down to Roo that day, rather than Thursday. Uggggh.

For the first time ever I'm coming from Asheville instead of Roanoke/Richmond. I've been super happy about my decision until yesterday.

So I dont think I've ever become this obsessed with a band so quickly (since they won album of the year). Call me a bandwagon jumper or whatever but I dont care. These guys are fucking amazing and I think I am looking forward to their performance at Roo more than any other this year.

when i first heard funeral after it came out, i dont think i listened to another band for a month!
Having trouble getting into these guys...I downloaded Funeral and the Suburbs any other suggestions?
May I ask how you've listened to them? Like in the car while driving? Or on your iPod while doing some work at home? Maybe sitting down and doing some active listening....focusing solely on the music and lyrics? Also how many times have you listened through the full albums?
I feel like the way you listen to music can affect how you feel about it. I let those to albums play on repeat for a few days during anything I was doing....and when I heard something in a song that stood out to me....i'd listen to the song again but read the lyrics while doing it and getting a feel for the tone of the song. Then i'd look up live versions of it on youtube.
After doing this for a few days.....I really started to like the band, more and more. Maybe try doing something like that?
Also......sometimes not every band will be liked (even if a ton of other people like them). I haven't been able to get into certain bands that everyone else seems to love so I just move on to something else.
Arcade Fire to re-release The Suburbs with David Byrne collaboration... this should be very interesting and hey it cant be bad
What does that mean? Like the same album but David Byrne does some singing/playing on it? Or are they maybe re-recording the whole album? This is interesting.
edit: I just found it
A #1 record, a couple Grammys, a sold-out tour, festival headlining, a short film directed by Spike Jonze… it’s been a pretty incredible 12 months for Arcade Fire, arguably the biggest band in indie rock, so why not celebrate with an expanded re-release of The Suburbs. On June 28th, the band will add a bunch of extras to their surprise mega-hit album. The re-release will feature two new songs, “Culture War” and “Speaking in Tongues.” If the latter reminds you of that Talking Heads’ album, perhaps it’s no coincidence—former Heads frontman and longtime Arcade Fire supporter David Byrne will be lending his pipes to the track.
In addition to the new cuts, the new Suburbs will also include a new version of “Wasting Light”, retitled “Wasting Light (A Place Where We Can Live)”, which also feels very Byrne-inspired, along with the Spike Jonze-directed short Scenes From the Suburbs and a documentary detailing the making of Arcade Fire’s third LP.
Check out the trailer for Scenes From the Suburbs, below, and be sure to read our review of The Suburbs.

Mostly in the car and walking to class. I do look up live songs and read the lyrics as well I think it makes the song that much more interesting.

I have a feeling they'll play more Neon Bible cuts at Roo than they've been doing on their tour. They only played three at the Dallas gig -- Intervention and the car songs.

I never knew people listened to music like this haha.

I would have their album on when driving to and from work....I put it on while working/surfing the net on my computer at home. When I heard something that made me pay more attention to the music I looked up the song online to see them play it live and junk. When it was confirmed they'd be playing Roo I went into Arcade Fire homework mode for a little while.

I often listen to music like that, whenever I have the time. I like lyrics, and it's hard to get acclimated with the lyrics unless you sit down with the lyric sheet or on an internet site that has lyrics (songmeanings.net is a favorite of mine). It usually results in a better understanding of the essence of the song(s).
Back to the topic--isn't it funny that just six or seven months ago, the question was whether or not Arcade Fire could headline. Now, not only are they headlining, they are an unopposed Friday night headliner for a sold-out Bonnaroo (not to mention a sold-out Coachella as well) during a year in which it'd be really easy and even understandable for the people who schedule Bonnaroo to have them opposed on Which by, say, Buffalo Springfield. How far they've come.

I wasn't all that into AF at first either until the more I randomly put them on as background music the more I woke up with their songs completely stuck in my head. Today I woke up with Black Waves and now probably won't be able to listen to anyone else all day. Also looking up lyrics is a big +
