There are wayyy worse options than Coldplay. Plus we're obviously not gonna get the actual fantasy top 5, and Coldplay would be a better than expected substitution.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.

It's not like they've changed their sound very much to get popular like a KOL. And it's not like Chris Martin is even close to being the super-douche people think Bono is.
Right, in fact, they changed their sound in a direction away from popular mainstream music. I feel Viva La Vida was a huge step in a different direction, and it's definitely my favorite record of theirs. They let songs take shape and have some beautiful instrumental passages. I don't know how much could be credited to Brian Eno, but either way...
I remember someone posted, possibly on here, some awesome video of Chris Martin running out into the crowd. Let's see if I can find it.
Edit: Well that was easy. Awesome performance but he goes wild at about 3 minutes in.

i think they're going to grab RHCP as the band that will bring in a lot of the mainstream fans who came for KoL last year, and who don't care about or know who Frusciante is

i don't know, Green Day is just about to finish what is basically a 2-year world tour, and they don't really get out much in between tours. If they were going to play, it would have made more sense for them to have already played while on tour supporting the new album.
i think they're more likely to take some time off and then they've said they want to get started on new material and work on a live album. and, presumably, rest.

I'm glad there is some vocal Coldplay support on here. I can see them being a similar situation to KOL this year. They are going to be supporting an album and get the Headlining spot on Friday.
Although they are a "bigger" band than KOL, I can see inforoo completely trashing Coldplay for the months between the lineup announcement and 'Roo. Then, they blow the (figurative) roof off and supporters come out of the wood work.

Wow surprised to hear the Coldplay support. Used to love them but never listen to them on purpose anymore... Saw them live though and it was awesome! They would definitely blow away anyone who kinda likes them that went to check them out. By NO means did they put on a better show than Radiohead (and I would a thousand times prefer Radiohead), but live, Martin's voice can be every bit as chilling as Yorke's. Also, they had a way better light show and choreography than Radiohead.
I'm not pulling for them because I rarely try and listen to them anymore and they would likely be very expensive but wouldn't be disappointed to see them again, either.... especially if they played mostly older stuff.
