I agree with you karosko and I don't have a strong opinion about Jimmy Buffet. I don't want him to headline, but an afternoon Which is fine. I can walk by, enjoy margaritaville, go about my 'Rooness.
Also, very happy to hear The Rolling Stones are touring. If this is it, it would be great for them to headline. Although, I can't see The Stones and U2 happening. I guess I'm happy getting Mick and Keith over Bono and Edge.
I'd prefer U2 over the Stones, at this point, however I'm unaware of how good the Stones are in concert anymore.
And to me, Jimmy Buffett would be the most off putting headliner that would be even remotely probable. I live near a lake where there are parties galore with lots of Buffett... lots. Maybe if they brought a Margaritaville mini restaurant/vendor I'd stop by for a cold swaller and a burger, which has a lack of good ones.
Also one had the biggest Which Stage crowd at Bonnaroo to date.
I really dont remember it being any where near as large as Byrne. Of course it was early in the day and pretty damn hot.
I didn't think Byrne's crowd was too big. White Stripes, Flips 07, and NIN are the biggest crowds I can remember. Honorable mention to Ben Folds/Bright Eyes in 06.

After the first song the crowd was standing only back to the Beer Tent entrance. At NIN in 09, and the Flips show this year I was easily able to get there late and sit pretty near the back of the VIP bleachers. Byrne was large, but did not go near as far back.
I personally believe Cheeseburger in Paradise to the worst song of all time. I hate it. That being said, I've seen I've seen Jimmy Buffett twice (Newport Folk Festival & Bonnaroo) and both times he was great. He puts on a great show and is a hell of an entertainer. As for Headliner, I suppose he has the status (even if his last minute add on the Which says otherwise). But ultimately I think he and Arcade Fire both have no chance of headlining.

Fair enough, I was up at the sound board for both. I can definitely say Byrne was packed a lot tighter, but I couldnt see that far behind me.

I'm with wolfman. I think Buffett is good enough to headline but I don't think he will ever headline Bonnaroo. I regret missing his show due to unforeseen reasons at that time (an accident happened), since I had bought a margarita mixer for that specific show.
Anyway, updated lineup based on the recent news (tongue in cheek)
Rolling Stones - U2 - Radiohead - Phish - Daft Punk - Neil Young - Furthur - MMJ - Arcade Fire and Allman Bros to start off the greatest Sunday What Stage lineup ever:
Van Halen (massive tour planned for this year.. Southern legends=Roo Sat night)
Eminem & Lil' Wayne (Em has a new album and is making a huge comeback. Thus, I can see him at the biggest festival in the US. I have confirmed reports from a few personal friends that work scheduling at Roo that Wayne was confirmed last year until the jail sentence. Thus, I foresee him coming as well.)
Further ( A Dead member has been absent for three years----until this year)
Followed up with a good dose of: Arcade Fire and My Morning Jacket
These are your headliners/subheadliners this year, imo.
no homo/no depression

If Lil Wayne was late night or something.. I could deal because it would allow for tons of options.... Eminem, I just can't buy into for this type of festival situation. and I'm sure for everyone's sake that the time locked behind bars kept him far away from an electric guitar.

i kinda agree.
there are tons of more talented artists in the genre that are unfortunately less successful that the two, who are both hugely popular commercially.
both created uninspired, unintelligent music that does nothing to push their genres forward but that is appealing to a mainstream audience due to its "radio-friendly" style.
Wayne's music exists just to pump at clubs. Nickelback's exists just to pump at bars.
