I've been every year for 7 years straight now, have done whatever I wanted wherever I wanted each year, and have NEVER had a problem with security/cops/etc... It's honestly like most people have already said - if you're not being a dumbass, you really don't need to worry about them. If you're taking something in to Centeroo that you shouldn't, HIDE IT. When you're coming in thru the checkpoints, be friendly, that goes a long way here in TN. I always have several ice cold drinks waiting to hand out at the entrance. You give those guys a cold gatorade, say "yes sir" and "no sir" to everything, and keep a smile on your face, and everything is all good. Every police officer/security team member/mounted patrol I spoke with throughout the weekend couldn't have been nicer, and that goes for all 7 years I've been.
while leaving centeroo one time we saw a skinny shirtless guy getting arrested, on the ground, hand behind his back. no idea what he did. actually kinda felt bad for him. hahaha.
did he have short blonde hair? it could have been our friend butters. he didn't have anything on him though but they kicked him out anyway because he was looking for stuff.

One of our friends in our group met a cid dealer who was all pissed off because an undercover took 10 grand from him and let him go without taking the cid from him. It could have been a bs story but honestly it makes since for a shady cop to rather have a 10 grand pay day than having to deal with arresting someone.

My friends were apparently outside the tent one night smoking a j, when two (what I gather, very drunk/fucked up) cops came up and asked how old they were. After answering 20, they took their dime bag and threw it on the ground and stamped on it? He then proceeded to ask ridiculous questions like "IS THERE WEED IN THAT WATER?" And they were all like .... uhhh...what? I've never had anything happen to me, but I found it kinda scary that some of the enforcement were out of their minds while at roo.

There were 100 or so arrests same as every year. By the way a hint to you kids, just because a drunken guy is in a cop uniform or has a badge and is demanding your money or corn that does not mean he is a cop.

Yeah, My first year (08) I believe we encountered two fake cops in our campsite. It was getting dark out and my group was sitting around camp and I noticed two men standing by our cars observing us. My other friends then noticed as well. At the time one of my friends (the smallest female in our group) was going threw her bag looking for a glass bead she bought to show us. The men then questioned her about what was in the bag and we were like wtf. One of the men then pointed to his gun on his holster and we noticed he was a wearing a collared shirt with a police symbol on it. He then demanded to look threw her bag, which she allowed, cause nothing was in there. Once they looked threw the bag and found nothing they left. It seemed very unprofessional how they handled themselves and by pointing to their gun to identify they were a cop!?!?
If it had been this year and not the summer after graduating high school, we probably would have been smarter and demanded id from the cop, and denied the search which was most likely unlawful anyways.

It happens more than you would think, also it is old hat I remember people doing it on Dead/Phish tour in the 90's. A general rule of thumb is that if they are demanding a search, and did not catch you red handed dealing, then they are not real cops.
Yeah listen to Jess, a real cop is one bad complaint away from administrative leave and/or suspension. Most will follow the law and they have to have something in "plain sight" or the smell corn present to search you further than a pat-down (weapons search). That scam has been out there a long time.

the only thing that bothered me this year was on sunday three or four cops strolled through our campsite during the day. it looked like to me that they were just walking through our section looking for people smoking/selling.

I hate hearing all of these druqk bust stories. Why can't I hear a story like..." I saw this dude snatch a purse out of a campsite and then got his ass taken down by two undercovers. Sweet Justice." Other than a girl getting harassed for selling bootleg shirts, they've been all druqk related stories. Do the cops/security even care about thefts. Quit bugging the potheads and go after these damn crooks. ARGGG
I went in 07 and also this year, for me I saw no difference in security. I didn't see any undercover busts or uniformed police either year. I didn't have any kind of serious search on the way in either year. Both years I saw several horse cops but I never saw them get off of their horses, they seemed cool. I'm glad that there is some security there. If there weren't a police presence there would have to be private and professional security. 80,000+ people partying is too much to hope that nothing would go wrong without some kind of security. I just wish, like most other people here, that they would lay off of the stoners and t-shirt vendors. Those are not the people anybody should be worried about. I never had my campsite or tent ransacked, but I guess it happens enough to be a problem.
