If he's touring, Bon Iver should share a late night tent with Grizzly Bear. Now that would be spectacular.
spectacular for sleeping.
yeah... in theory it would be great to see these bands without worrying about the sun but latenights should be very high energy. bon iver at roo is one of my favorite shows ever, but i still listen to them to fall asleep
i guess it would depend on what they do with the next album, could be a totally different direction than For Emma

Spiritualized! Hell yeah! I saw them 10 years ago at the Gypsy Tea Room in Dallas, right after a baseball-sized hailstone shattered my right patella in between the car and club. Thank you, Bacardi 151! I still have to wear a knee brace from that night. Opeth Between the Buried and Me Grace Potter

I would like to see Justin Vernon of Bon Iver's new project Gayngs late night. Word is Prince showed up at their show in Minnesota with guitar in hand, but did not go on stage because he was enjoying the performance so much.
I'd love Tortoise any way... are they still popular enough to command a late night tent? I ask because it seems they've been playing smaller and smaller venues.
I was really tired in 09 before Bon Iver's set and was kind of afraid it would be too mellow, but it really wasn't. He puts on a really intense performance.
At the risk of vocal flubs. Good show, but his flat notes were really hard to ignore. For a guy with such an awesome voice (maybe Roo was just off?) it was kind of a disappointing show. Still good and highly enjoyable.
As for them late night... I think daytime is perfect for them with no need for night time atmospherics. Grizzly Bear I could easily see in a low key sleeper (pun partially intended) late night set, a la Sigur Ros.
Really though, the more I think the more I feel Explosions In The Sky would be one of the best late shows possible.
Sorry for the double post... that corn nomming has me a bit all over the place.

I will say that I'm way more into the idea of Grizzly Bear, and it seems much more feasible. I feel like Roo should use the chances to branch out on the late nights, and see how it goes over. Hearing "I Live With You" as the sun rises would make for an incredibly special Roo moment.

In terms of chill bands, Iron & Wine would be the best option for a late night imo, and he's a Bonnaroo vet who deserves it. His sunset show in 08 will forever be one of my favorites.
Others:
Umphrey's McGee Porcupine Tree Hot Chip Dead Meadow Them Crooked Vultures The Roots Lettuce Garage A Trois (with Charlie Hunter??) Phantogram (more of a Thursday late night, not big enough) The Bridge (again, Thursday late night) MM&W with Scofield Soulive
Bonaroo needs to keep from sleeping on the Post-Rock and instrumental in the late night slots. There are a ton of great bands that are just built for that late-night slot: Explosions in the Sky - as mentioned many times before Grails - trippy beyong trippy godspeed you! black emperor - so 9 US shows have not been announced but lall wll likely be in 2011. Probably just a dream that one date will be in Manchester though. Mono - Explosions in the Sky Japanese version
We all need the electronic choices as well: Daft Punk - This is happening, positive thoughts by all.... Ghostland - time to put a new album in there, but these guys always are a blast live. Caribou - somewhere in that electronic - indie cross over but awesome nevertheless live. F*** Buttons - these guys have improved so much since their first album. Bear in Heaven - They have been before but a completely different style now.
Others: The Besnard Lakes - great distroted guitars and vocals Kylessa - in the metal tradition of Roo but late! Spiritualized - Just play Ladies and Gentlemen... perfect late night album. Portishead - what a great atmosphere a late show would be with them.
Mostly pipe dreams. But Mew, mum, EitS would all work. And Parliament/Funkadelic.
The reason things like Boards of Canada/The Knife/Portishead/etc. will never happen is because these bands don't tour...good luck convincing them to do a one-off in bumfuck tennessee.

Apostle2, unfortunately I hear you. I have given up hope of ever seeing Boards of Canada and yeah The Knife are pretty unrealistic as well. But I guy can dream can't he?

I second the Portishead recommendation. And along that line of thinking, I'd also reccomend Massive Attack. Maybe Sneaker Pimps (although they kind of lost me when the girl dropped out as the vocalist)

But at least a lot of people are requesting those bands instead of "I would like to see more heady acts like umph, bisco, pnuma trio, u-melt."

No problem with those bands at Roo, especially because there's only like 4 a year now, it's just nice to see people calling for new bands to have a chance.
