in other words.. after being screwed by the heat last year we're gonna get screwed by the lack of it this year
There will be plenty of heat to screw you this year too. And the cicadas won't be that big of a deal unless your camped on the perimeter of the campgrounds near the tree line. Silly northerners
i'll be fine as long as there are enough power outlets for my air conditioner

There are no power outlets at 'Roo in the GA campgrounds. I don't think there are any in VIP either, but correct me if I'm wrong.
i just read an article today that said the cicadas are expected in illinois too...we just had them like 3-4 yrs ago...they were horrible...it is a different cycle of them then before i guess though

that was a city boy joke...
Well you are a Yankee we do worry about you guys.
I would like to say that when I went to NYC for the first time in April that the Salsa was not near as bad as the tv commercials would make you believe.

ok i had no idea that there were even commercials down south talking about salsa, much less how bad it is up here. we dont talk about your crappy pizza, hot dogs and bagels!
ps... those bonnaroo "nyc style pizza" stands are a LIE!!!!!
Too bad I'm a New Yorker by birth and at heart and there aren't enough Montrealers on this board to keep up the debate, but NY vs. MTL bagels is a seriously fun fight.

Also we have a quite acceptable NY pizza place in town. Several transplants have given it a seal of approval.

OMG i was in HS when that commercial came out hahahaha... trust me with the immigrant popuation we have here you probably get some of the best salsa of your life if yo uknow where to go
as far as TN/NYC pizza ... i'll believe it when i taste it.. and it was NOT at roo last year.
as far as montreal bagels go ..... i have no idea about that lol.

NYC and Montreal bagels are 2 very different things. If I'm just having a straight up bagel I want a MTL bagel but if it's for like a breakfast sandwich or something I like a NYC bagel. Just my 2 cents on that.
The cicadas in SC are already quieting down a bit. How are they in TN? Main thing is, they don't bite, they don't sting, they don't do anything except destroy eardrums when there are a million (literally) buzzing nearby. They're not even too bad on the flora considering their numbers.
There is a reason NY pizza/bagels are world renowned.
The water.
NYC gets its water from reservoirs in the Catskills Mountains. In fact, transplants all over the country pay to have this water shipped by the truckload so they can make true "NY Style _____". The Jewish bakeries in LA do this, and it really makes a difference.
I've been to Montreal quite a few times and for non-NY bagels, they're very good. But if you go to a true NY deli/bakery, there's no comparison.
I've been spoiled, living in the Bronx in the Arthur Ave. area (home of NY pizza), but I haven't found a "NY style" pizzeria outside of the Tri-State area that measures up. If I go to TN, I'm not looking for NY style anything, anyway.

I live in Nashville and have seen 3 total at my house, and that was a week ago. Haven't seen any since. I can hear them in the woods behind my house when walking the dog though. At my office in downtown Nashville I have seen 2 dead ones. My sister lives in Murfreesboro and had a bunch around her porch a week ago but not many now. We are having gross weather (major drop in temp) so I am guessing it has to do with that?
I had to dodge several on my way out the doors for lunch. Apparently they are flying at the front doors of our building and killing themselves when they hit the glass. Crunchy cicadas litter the front walk.

The big difference is that NY bagels are dense(er than MTL bagels), doughy, and fairly chewy, with a soft crust. MTL bagels have a very solid crust that has a good "crack" and are softer on the inside.
When I lived on Parc and St-Viateur, I ate at St-Viateur at least 3 times a week.

I'm in Illinois, right across from StL and I haven't seen a single one (fingers crossed), yet a friend who lives in the next town over not 10 minutes away said his backyard is swarming with them. Maybe it's because I have one tree?

Cicada activity is on the rise... this video was taken last Saturday, 30 minutes north of Manchester (in Murfreesboro). The sound may hurt your ears if you're wearing headphones; make sure the volume isn't cranked before hitting play.

Actually... this might be the one thing that drowns out my tinnitus! Cicadas: secretly helpful!
