what is your definition of rumor?
it has been rumored that Daft Punk is going to play bonnaroo for years now, this year is no different. the fact that they might actually tour only adds to the rumor.

alright...I changed it just to appease the hardcore Daft Punk fans who have dreamed of them playing the farm for years and also appeases the inforooers who thinks that a rumor is a rumor and should be so.

I think you mean jumping the gun (just to be pedantic). Jumping the shark is when something great does something so over the top to maintain it's popularity it gets stupid. Jumping the gun is saying because someone on the Coachella board posted Gogol is playing, that it is now confirmed.

I'm actually ok with mmj and gogol bordello. There is at least a little rumor to them. The rest are just completely out of left field. Hey everyone here likes daft punk and wants them to play, so now they are rumored to play.

I think all of what bigman is doing is right! He is doing us all good by putting these things in one accessible place... but I guess that just makes it easy for the ball-busters!! demands demands demands... not approved by YOU as a rumor does not make bigman wrong, it is all a matter of bigman to sort out. I think he has been doing first-rate and tagging as rumor from someone's mouth directly and partly from buzz/hype. I don't get confused when we have 15 "confirmed" headliners and the line-up comes out with 3... it's part of the fun, it's not perfect!!! Thank you Bigman for your undertaking, don't let the ball-busters on you like glue take the fun out of it!
Oh yeah, to the ballbusters don't take it the wrong way, it's not meant to be negative on what you have replied, criticism is good and it keeps people on their toes... so have at it all the same!

I suppose I mean a bit of both. This thread is without a doubt jumping the gun as we won't have any real confirmations for months probably. Its jumping the shark in the sense that we have resulted to these half-assed "confirmations" in order to please ourselves when none of them have any real basis. Slightly altered definition, I know, but it fits somehow.
I guess it's all just speculation. If you can link to a legitimate media outlet discussing the possibility of an artist performing at Bonnaroo, I think then it becomes a rumour. If that outlet says that the artist is playing at Bonnaroo you can count it as a confirmation.
(Keeping in mind that Pavement was "confirmed" last year and for a few brief, shining moments, Led Zeppelin was "confirmed" in 2008.)

No malice intended, hopefully we will have some real information soon, and this will be the thread for it. It just seems to me that there are no real rumors yet, everything is unsubstantiated.
Some dude said on the Phish board that his mom overheard some guy talking on his phone on a train in NY planning a "tenth anniversary" and mentioning "what stage" and "which stage" and he threw out the names Radiohead and Phish. Everybody more or less laughed him off, he came to inforoo and got all butthurt and defended his mom, etc. Then, maybe a month or so later, one or two more reliable, dependable inforooers said that they're hearing from all their trusty sources as well that Radiohead and Phish have indeed been booked (and there is some disagreement on whether or not Neil Young or Daft Punk are in discussions, but they are rumored as well).
FAR from a confirmation, but encouraging nonetheless.

Thank you bigman!!! I'm cool with what you've done and while I do agree in Dec. we'll probably move onto another thread of confirmations, i'm sticking with this one for now.
^Chris Isaak is also on hiatus next year and has nothing scheduled during Bonnaroo, lets go on and call that a rumor as well. The Slackers are also not scheduled anywhere so I am sure they will be there.

So just to clarify, any band playing Chicago in July counts as a rumor? The point "asswipe" is that it is not useful to have a rumors thread that includes every single fucking band in America.

Being told I need a hobby from a guy who gets on this same board and posts bands as rumors because they are playing 600 miles away from Bonnaroo 1 month later pretty much brings the lulz, and pretty much could include every band in America if that is your criteria. Get the quack over yourself dude, I am sorry if I am hurting your precious little feelings by questioning your methods of determining of what is or is not a rumor. At this point you are just pulling stuff out of your ass, and it makes this a pretty pointless thread, and that is all I am trying to say.
