These guys make you think about the electronic sound a little differently, I've heard it referred to as organic techno. It's really probably closer to classical than anything but does a pretty good job of showing how electronic music can imitate organic instruments and vice versa.
Um, yeah, except that The Black Keys beat them out for Best Alternative Album. The "Best Album" wasn't as good as a nominee for "Best Alternative Album?" Where's the consistency? I'm a Black Keys fan and admitted homer rep'n Akron, but we all know the Grammys are a joke, right?
For the record, I'm okay with Arcade Fire headlining one night. That's fine, but I'll skip it, like I did Dave Matthews (who I also don't have a problem with but don't "get") last year.
I need to listen to Dear more, I listened to his new one a couple times and liked it but never went back to it for some reason.
What I like most about Murphy though is he always has a way of sneaking in a funny line around a serious one, and he's self-aware to the point where he doesn't go overboard. He also builds the song around drums which I love.
My deal with LCD Soundsystem is that their first album was genuinely great and interesting and the band could have gone in a lot of different directions and Murphy took them the most obvious route. Which is a fun route, but pretty limited one, imo.
I guess I feel like what Dear is doing is incorporating recent electronic music with his base influences whereas Murphy just rips off his idols and packages it in the most catchy way possible.
Matthew Dear would be a great show. Can't say I like him more than LCD, but really can't say I like him any less...
Also I was going to argue the Eno thing because I always imagined him copping Byrne, then I remembered Eno handled all the production on those great TH records.
You ever listened to any of Eno's solo albums? Another Green World, Here Come the Warm Jets, Taking Tiger Mountain by Strategy and Before and After Science are all really great albums.
PM if you're interested...

Have them, never really taken the time to dive in. Whenever I think Eno I think of his ambient stuff, which I know he didn't do all the time.

Oh man...they're worth it, like Bowie/Talking Heads/Pink Floyd rolled into one.
Agreed I guess that BS alone may not be the headliner popular with the masses that we expect on a saturday. But what about Neil and Friends for the classic rock headliner?
Now you're onto something! As numerous people have pointed out in this thread, top headliners are there for their "draw." It might seem odd to educated folks who know rock music, like many people here, but Buffalo Springfield wouldn't do as well on a poster/list as Neil Young alone. Buffalo Springfield (I won't call them "BS") were amazing, and influential in their time and after, but the name recognition just isn't there for them to headline a major festival in 2011. Eminem looks way more likely as a headliner, unfortunately, though Springfield is a much much more appropriate act.
Neil + ??? would be great, and I'm hoping for that, but the countdown is on...
On a positive note, I just got back from Widespread Panic at the Fox, and they are playing a great show rite now. Hopefully yall give them a chance on the farm, they are bound to win some of yall over.

I'd like to know how that all fit on a Chrome tab.

Led Zeppelin could play for a half-hour and sell 100k+ anywhere in America, with a week's advance notice.
that's different... with that theory you could say RHCP did it in Europe a few years back, I have the DVD... these are $250 face value tickets to an American festival... a huge act for her time like Madonna would only go around france every so often... And while the Zeppelin thing could be true, I kinda read the "one band" thing in a touring group sort of way... not the Zep or Floyd type of act...
