I'm still on the Sublime with Rome Train. The dog has spots was lost and went to the moon. Brad died so theres demise. And then everything would change for sublime with Rome in the mix (watershed moment).
What about Foo Fighters? A trip to space could mean nirvana's potential of being the biggest band in the world, thwarted by a freckled lad's (kurt cobain) demise. The watershed moment being had that not happened the watershed moment, foo fighters formation.
only on page 7, don't know if this has been ruled out or mentioned yet, but the foos' debut album also has a song entitled "Wattershed"

I posted this on another thread. I think it is Little Feat.
They had a live album, "Waiting for Columbus."
Columbus is a US space station. JFK was the first president (young lad) who wanted to go to space, but was assassinated before he could (his demise). Both the US getting to space and JFK's assassination are "watershed" moments in our history.
It's a stretch, but it could work. That's all I've got.
I think it might be Weezer. They abandoned a space themed rock opera early in their career (around '95) called "Songs from the Black Hole". Its never been released, but was otherwise a watershed moment since it was around the time of the Blue Album and Pinkerton
I mentioned this earlier. Songs From The Black Hole was eventually turned into Pinkerton. Maybe Rivers Cuomo solo? He did release alot of the Songs from the Black Hole demos on Alone and Alone II
after trying to sort through all this guess work, I will throw a couple guesses out there. the first that came to mind was The Dead Kennedies. Kennedy started the whole space program and was brought to his demise by a speckled lad Lee Harvey Oswald (I think he had freckles as a boy). the other that just popped in my head for no good reason was N.A.S.A. but who knows

It's the "speckled lad's demise" not someone else's demise, on account of a speckled lad. Though one could say that Oswald's mental problems could lead to a demise, or that his demise resulted in the assisination.
However, the death of Kennedy did not thwart the US Space Program. We landed a man on the moon by "the end of the decade" as Kennedy portended.
I'm sticking with the Apollo / Kennedy theme(s). Kennedy was Irish, and "lad" is a word I personally associate with Irish (yes, I also realize Conan is Irish but I'm not following that idea).
The Dead Kennedys are my best guess but I'm definitely open to bands/musicians with an Apollo-related name or song. Never heard of this Apollo Sunshine group before....
A trip to space, or a trip to the moon. A speckled lad, or the man on the moon with craters and all. The speckled lad's demise, or when the moon gets dark. The Dark Side of the Moon. The Watershed moment, or Roger Waters.
Roger Waters was part of Pink Floyd.
Roger Waters is planning a tour in 2011. Possibly Bonnaroo?

i dont think this is the answer, but it makes the most sense of any early guesses.. to me anyway..surprised no one smarter than me has tried to take it further
