Hint - buy up to VIP... take a warm shower before bed to clean off and relax.... sleep under an EZup canopy and wear earplugs - a must to eliminate external noise. Finally, battery powered fans to keep the air moving. We sleep in till 9-10 a.m. until the smell of bacon 'n eggs wake us up. Also, a mid afternoon (cool) shower and nap are a must (especially if you are in your 50's, like us!) See you there.
You raise a point that helps me fall asleep and stay asleep: a foot-bath before bed, so my feet don't feel sticky sliding up and down each other and wake me up as I snooze. I use a bucket of water and a bar of soap, and I'm all good.
Advanced tip: set your foot-bath up BEFORE leaving camp for the day, so that on your return you're not stumbling around your dark campsite with a head full of mood expanders fumbling in various places for the bar of soap you could swear you brought, kicking the bucket over & swearing & slipping & falling down kiester over teakettle in the ensuing mud, etc.

I sleep in my car with the front windows cracked. I like this a lot better than the tent I used to sleep in. Working on borrowing my dad's minivan, taking the back seat out and having a mini RV.

The only way I survived that morning heat was an rv in vip. Generator going with the ac on. You guys that can do the tents in GA are gods. Remember I'm from Minnesota, we don't do heat well. By the way the outside temp here at 3:15am on Friday the 21st of Jan. is -15 F below zero. Try camping in that.

Last year I had 2 capopies, one over the tent and on in front for outside shade. I hung up a sheet over the east side of the canopy for shade. I just clipped i up there with like 15 clothesline pins. I use a little battery powered fan. It didn't work much, but better than nothing. Also helps to drag your air mattress outside. After 7 its so much cooler in the free breeze, the tent gets stuffy. I like the xanax idea too... may have to try that this year...
I don't know how I feel about getting really drunk or taking a xanax to help you sleep through the heat. Every year atleast one person passes away at bonnaroo for various reasons. Taking extra measures with NO NO WORD!!! and alcohol so that you can stay unconcious in a stuffy hot environment when you're body is already stressed and dehydrated seems like a bad idea to me.
I think you pretty much have to accept the fact you're going to be sleep deprived for most of the weekend. The most effective things I've found are 1.) fans in the tent 2.) shade set up on the east side of your tent to block out the sunrise 3.) sleeping an extra few hours outside under your shade canopy 4.) Caffiene and energy drinks 4.) if all else fails praying for cloudy (but not rainy) weather

As sleep deprived as I always am, I always find the energy and endurance to do everything I want to do. Just pace yourself. Take it easy during the day. Rest when you can and don't go nuts with drinking alcohol.. i wouldnt have more than 3 drinks, if any at all. Drink lots and lots of water. Eat nuts and whole grains that digest slow and give you energy. I eat lots of trail mix and cliff energy bars, I think those help. I mostly take it easy during the day and save my energy for the latenights. I rest in whatever shade I can find during whatever time I'm not watching bands. The sun is a killer. It drains my energy. If it comes to a choice between 2 bands I want to see equally, I'll always chose a tent over a stage.
At night I take a 5 hour energy shot and I'm godo to party all night

That's exactly what we do (minus Dad's van - it's ours). Clear out seats and throw futon mattress in back. Two EZ ups - one over van and the other over social area. Comfy even for mid-day naps and no sweating from air mattress.

Prevention: Fans, we brought a marine deep cycle battery and rigged wallyworld 12v camp fans for each in our group. Fans ran all weekend without having to charge the battery. Bring jumper cables to recharge battery if necessary.
Ear/eye protection, earplugs and sleep blinders help to get a few extra zzz and leaves only the heat or bladder to wake you up.
(edited:) Take ibuprophen or asprin before bed to prevent hangover or body aches.
Keep a jug next to bed in case nature calls, smelling a portojohn in the morning wakes you up real quick. Also something to drink next to bed is helpful in case you wake up thirsty.
Reflective tarps facing east, bring a compass to determine east when you get there

Good recommendations! After my first Roo, I stay pretty far away from the alcohol. Made me feel like crap. Energy bars were a life saver, especially since the intense heat kills my appetite.
I always wondered if those 5 hour energy shots worked....

So what is the secret to get an extra hour, 2 or 3? It killed me last year when I was up until around 5am on Friday and then couldn't get much sleep past 7am because it gets so HOT. I am considering getting a second canopy to place over the tent to block out the sun, and possibly a marine battery/fan to put in the tent. Anyone have any other secrets? It really would make a huge difference if I could just sleep until like 9.

I also started using the left over bottles of water that did not fit into my cooler and by Friday a.m are now hot water, I strip down and use to bottles to shower with and it works very well! pour 1 bottle for wet>lather up>another bottle to rinse...and you get more hot water from that than in the vip showers.

best sleep you will ever get at bonnaroo is in centeroo. generally every year I get a few good hours in the theater... that was before they bastardized the theater.
every year me and my girl take a dusk nap. 2-3 hours outside of the other tent, get you refreshed and ready to get back to the real partying. throwing down until sunrise was always a great idea until you realized you were going to need a lot more "sundries" or spend the day trying to pass out in your own pool of sweat with your friends nagging you to head to centeroo with them. I never saw what the big deal about missing an act or two was. I despise the people that have their little itineraries. "i can watch 10 minutes of this, and then we have to be at which stage for _______ for 30 minutes before we meet up with Bob at what stage to see ______".
The foot bath is necessary because the wife and I set up a bed with sheets. I cut down a foam mattress to the shape of our tent floor, which is roughly queen-sized, and we use fitted sheets, etc. It's amazing how cool a top sheet with a high thread count will help you feel, especially with a decent battery fan blowing across it. Sort of like a big heat exchanger.
7 AM usually finds us sawing logs.
Another advanced tip: between the humidity and sweat, your bedding is likely to get damp. So put your bedding on your car's dashboard during the day. The sun will bake it dry.

I always miss an act or 2 of bands that are 'whatev' but I personally do make an itinerary and if I miss much on it I tend to regret it. I go mostly for the music. Bonnaroo accounts for most of the free money I save up in a given year. I intend to get my money's worth. Now, when it's someone else making me follow their itinerary it does get annoying. I tell them I'm doing my own thing and meet up when we can

Wow. Despise is a pretty strong word.
There's a lot going on and I don't begrudge anybody that has the desire and the discipline to make the most of it. I tend to have an idea of where I want to be when but I also break that if I'm feeling something different. To each his own, though.
I usually get uber nerdy about it. I use an excel spreadsheet and color code the bands based on how much I would like to see them. So if I am not feeling a certain show without having to think to much about where to go next. Luckily most of my friends and I share musical tastes but none of us will hesitate a second when we want to see something else. I can see how that can be too much for some people, but I do not have to go to many shows alone leaving from camp inforoo. You do have to make allowances, and no plan survives contact with Bonnaroo for long but it is still best to at least start out with one imo.
Yeah, I usually establish a basic plan of who I wanna see and how long I can be there. I usually at least give it a minimum 20 min fer each artist though. And plans can change quickly dependin' on where the 'Roo gods take me.
my pattern is this.. unless u have a rv which im too poor to bring.. You bring a shade went and when u start to feel like your cooking you bring your air mattress and fan and lay outside.. this is ur only hope unless ur going to sit in a car and waste gas..
best way to sleep past 7am is to get out of your tent and go into centeroo... not only are there many shady spots in centeroo, but there are tents with air conditioning. even if you are camped far away and have to walk 30 minutes, it's worth it to get some good sleep for a couple of hours in a/c. then wake up, get your self some breakfast and you're good to go.
The best sleep i had at Bonnaroo was the year of the RV. Last year there was no RV and it was horrible. We had a full tank of gas so several hours of sleep were had in the truck.

sleeping past 7 am? doesnt happen at roo.
im curious about this.. the air conditioned tents like the comedy tent and movie tent let you in at 7 am? ... is it packed? this seems like a pretty sweet option
The Cinemas are listed as 24-hour in the info booklets, so I guess that could work. Although I seem to remember couches previous years but none this year. Maybe I'm just crazy.
