haaaaa first post - was lucky to have gotten my brother to wait in line outside merc lounge for GA tickets (he got maybe the 8th to last pair of GA tickets they had). being in the pit for this show was amazing.
hate to say it for those that missed the show, but that pitchfork video does not do it justice. there are some great vids on youtube from people in the pit, particularly this guy:
i posted the below earlier on another forum, but then realized that if there was ever a time to stop lurking here, it was now:
amazing show. all of the gushing above is well deserved. pit was awesome, everyone was extremely friendly, nice, pleasant. everyone was dancing (no arms crossed blah blah i'm so cool). everyone had the time of their lives.
sound was great in GA; lights were great. whenever they lit up the garden, if you turned around you could see EVERYONE going nuts in the stands - everyone enjoyed this show, the entirety of msg was a giant party. never thought you could get the latenight festival atmosphere at an msg show, but this was perfect (GA was not overcrowded, which really went a long way in making it a great experience)
i only caught one show at T5 (thursday) and while it was amazing, the msg show was far and away better (obviously, for one, it was no where near as packed or as hot). i was ready to defend t5 after the thursday show, because, well, it was awesome, but having seen pretty much the same show two days later, t5 is a terrible venue for a popular show - they must determine capacity based on filling up the upper levels, which never get full because no one wants to be up there unless you're right up against the rail, so the ground floor gets pretty unpleasant/overbearing. and this leads to the people being unpleasant to be around, whereas at msg everyone was everyone else's friend
i love the setlist they played, how it starts out all high energy/dance, then goes into the funky/chill second set and then the third set they go out on fan favorites and songs that stress how ROCK STAR this band is (although, to be honest, i think mossman may have been better on thursday). the second set was so much fun as far as dancing goes - i thought the drums were fantastic. first set i was just really happy and excited, second set i completely lost myself in the rhythm and then third set brought back the energy as you rocked out with a great band that truly seemed to be enjoying itself
james was very emotional on ny i love you, and it was noticeably affecting everyone i saw in the pit. he clearly choked back a few tears when he turned around and looked at the band and kind of shrugged; very emotional and still gets me thinking about it now; james murphy is a good d00d...
wonderful evening all around, lcd and the fans both brought "it", weather was warm enough not to bring a jacket, msg security was pretty chill (i only saw security toss two people, both unfortunately in spectacularly violent fashion)
the dresscode was one of the coolest parts of the night. I enjoyed the 2 older women at the Gingerman who came up and said "we gotta ask, are you guys a group or something?" haha. I forget who said it but the reply was "no we're going to a funeral", too perfect.
My response was always the funeral. Great times this weekend. An amazing show. The Garden is magical. Never fails. Thanks to everyone this weekend. Great to meet Jesse, Bryan, and Jay. Thanks to John and Katy Mae for letting me hang. The door will be alright, at least I left it alright. Can't believe that didn't happen until the morning. Great crowd, except the guy to my left did have his arms folded all show but it's NYC, I'd expect at least one. I'd mediafire the vid capture from Pitchfork's webcast but I think it's too large. Let me know though if that's alright. But again, couldn't have been a better night.
"You look like you're listening to every note." - Lady to me during LCD's "final" show 2023: Mar 29 - Guster Apr 6 - Postmodern Jukebox Apr 26 - Father John Misty May 14 - Taylor Swift (Philly) May 17 - Robert Plant and Alison Krauss July 12 - moe. the full concert video is on a torrent site near you... audio too.
but i dont think we are supposed to share that sort of thing here
stevedave - i wish you had spoke up sooner and joined us for beers and me in the pit - great times! but your review was spot on. i kept forgetting i was at msg... until i turned around and saw people very very far away dancing their donkeys off.
also, check this out:
wow, i made a brooklynvegan pic! my life is complete
i still can't get over this show (not that i want to)... i feel so happy but also a bit melancholy (and scouring the internet looking for new pics/vids is cutting into my work productivity)
what band could possibly come close to replicating this experience with a latenite set at this year's bonnaroo? the only one that really jumps out at me (and that i am PRAYING gets a latenite set) is !!!, but i'm not particularly familiar with a lot of the acts... (and unfortunately i see little chance of them bringing the same level of emotion)
regardless, while it seems pretty rare to combine all of the elements lcd brought to this run of shows into a single performance, the overall bonnaroo experience will still have it all (i still have something to look forward to)
wish i had touched base before the show - but the sense of community was definitely still there...

I'm going to chime in with my two cents on the whole MSG debacle.
Ticketmaster/Livenation are full of s hit. There's significant evidence to suggest they sell to scalpers before the public onsale. Neither The Bowery or James Murphy have ever been known to do this. The Terminal 5 shows would have sold out, regardless. It just pisses me off that they tried to pin that s hit on him.

Honestly it became a non issue, I am pretty sure anybody who wanted to make any of these shows got in for face with no problem and no advance tickets.
